High-rise buildings, as a result of rapid urbanization in China, become one of popular structure kind. However, there have been few seismic vulnerability studies on high-rise buildings, and few fragility curves have been developed for the buildings. Based on the published data of more than 50 high rises and super high rises, the structural information such as building heights, mode periods, locations and sites, the maximum design story drift ratios, are collected and analyzed. The vulnerability analysis for high rises uses response spectrum displacement as seismic ground motion input, since the structures have comparatively long natural period. Using statistics and regression analysis, the relationship between the maximum story drift ratio and response spectrum displacement is established. Based on height groups and earthquake design codes, the fragility curves of different performance levels can be developed. These curves can provide good loss estimation of high rise structural damage under earthquake ground motion.

Abstract: Structural analysis is the science of determining the effects of different loads on structures. Structural stability and stiffness are a main concern in any high-rise structures. Shear walls are structural members that are mainly responsible for resisting lateral loads predominant on structures. They are mainly responsible to increase the stiffness, reduce story drift and displacement. In order to have a comprehensive understanding about the contribution of shear wall, following research is carried out. This research involves comparing two G+16 structures; one without a shear wall and one with it. The structure has 4 bays of 3m each along X direction and Z direction. In this, we will see how shear wall resists lateral sway and reduces story drift and increases stiffness. As the height increases, the shear wall absorbs more lateral load than the frame. This paper details the design of a high-rise reinforced concrete building whose top floor is isolated and used as the mass for a large-scale mass damper, describing the effect of the vibration control realized. Conventional mass dampers with additional weight at the building tops have been installed to improve environmental vibration against strong wind. Mass dampers have rarely been used, however, as measure against earthquakes. We developed large-scale vibration control using the top floor building weight to serve as a mass damper. The building is a high-rise reinforced concrete structure, 162 meters high, with 43 above-ground stories. Based on seismic response analysis using artificial earthquake waves, the natural vibration period of the mass damper was tuned to decrease story drift in the entire building. The mass damper reduced maximum story drift angle by 20%.

With the application of modern technologies in Civil Engineering, construction of high rise buildings with irregular plan configuration is increasing very quickly. Multi-story buildings are prone to lateral loads from wind or earthquake, which necessitates the need of seismic studies. Buildings can be designed to reduce these lateral loads by many methods; which is why the action of structural diaphragms have to be studied. Several studies have shown the effect of plan configuration on base shear, displacement and story drift, torsional buckling. The lateral stiffness of the building frame affects the maximum displacement of the structure due to earthquake. Study is done on various plan configuration buildings and the action of structural diaphragm on its performance during earthquake is studied.

In this paper, the effect of viscous damper on seismic performance of steel-concrete hybrid structure for high-rise building is analyzed. The result shows that viscous damper has little effect on dynamic properties of structure. The story lateral displacement, story drift rotation and damage of structure can be reduced effectively by viscous damper. The effect of the viscous damper on structure seismic performance is better with the increase of seismic intensity. Under the 7, 8 and 9 degree seismic seldom intensity, the story lateral displacement of the top floor decreases at 17.2%, 23.3%, 33.4% and the story drift rotation decreases at 20.8%, 27.2%, 44.7% respectively. The seismic analysis result may be referred by designer and researcher.

ABSTRACTIndonesia is a country with geographical location where 4 large tectonic plates meet. Therefore, if a collision or frictionhits the country, it is vulnerable to earthquakes. This condition makes the buildings more vulnerable to earthquakes. The effect of earthquake force and the performance of the resulting structure will be different if the same load is applied to a regular building and to an irregular building. The method to calculate the effect of the earthquake on the analysis of high-rise building structures in this study used dynamic analysis with spectrum response referred to SNI 03-1726-2012 and 2013 ETABS software program assistance (13.1.1 build 1035). This study aimed to compare the performance of the structure based on the deflection value and the story drift limits in regular and irregular buildings. In this study, the response of structural performance on three building models was calculated with variations in horizontal structure irregularity and then the results were compared. In this research, the biggest deflection was resulted on the re-entrant corner irregularity model C in the x-direction of 7,219 mm and the y-direction of 4,244 mm. Due to the shortage of land in cities and population growth, the significance of high rise buildings has risen. Controlling lateral displacement of structures under different loading such as an earthquake is an important issue for designers. One of the best systems is the diagrid method which is built with diagonal elements with no columns for manufacturing tall buildings. In this study, the effect of the distribution of the tuned mass damper (TMD) on the structural responses of diagrid tall buildings was investigated using a new dynamic method. So, a diagrid structural systems with variable height with TMDs was solved as an example of structure. The reason for the selection of the diagrid system was the formation of a stiffness matrix for the diagonal and angular elements. Therefore, the effect of TMDs distribution on the story drift, base shear and structural behaviour were studied. The obtained outcomes showed that the TMDs distribution does not significantly affect on improving the behaviour of the diagrid structural system during an earthquake. Furthermore, the new dynamic scheme represented in this study has good performance for analyzing different systems.
