AbstractTwo processes of great importance in the semiconductor industry are vapor deposition and plasma etching. This paper presents a review of laser techniques for spectroscopic characterization of the gas phase species involved in these processes. Band strength and other spectroscopic data for selected molecules are used to give estimates of the detection sensitivity in vibrational and electronic bands. Preliminary results are given from work presently in progress in our laboratory on the detection of such species. The discussion includes examples of the application of these techniques to a number of laboratory deposition and etching devices.

AbstractMagnesium acesulfamate, Mg(C4H4NO4S)2·6H2O, was prepared by the reaction of acesulfamic acid and magnesium carbonate in aqueous solution, and characterized by elemental analysis. Its crystal structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The substance crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1̅ with one molecule per unit cell. The FTIR spectrum of the compound was also recorded and is briefly discussed. Some comparisons with other simple acesulfamate and saccharinate salts are also made.

Gas-phase IR spectroscopic studies and supporting theoretical studies have been performed on adenosine 5′-triphosphate, cytosine 5′-triphosphate and guanosine 5′-triphosphate to elucidate the structural properties of the NTPs by focusing on the influence of the nucleobase and the extent of deprotonation.
