Background: Gallstone is a very common gastrointestinal disorder. It is known to produce histopathological changes in the gallbladder. It is also one of the predisposing factors for the development of cancer of gallbladder. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study carried out in the Department of Histopathology, B and B Hospital during a period of 1 year from April 2010 to May 2011. The study included 396 cases of cholecystectomy specimens. Results: On gross examination, outer gallbladder surface was congested in 116 patients (28%), wall thickness was increased in 181 (45.7%) and mucosal abnormalities were present in 126 (31.6%) patients. At microscopy, epithelial hyperplasia was observed in 183 (46.2%), intestinal metaplasia in 112 (28.2%), dysplasia in 5 (1.3%) and cholesterolosis in 56 (14%) patients. Conclusion: The pathological changes of the gallbladder epithelium may play an important role in the process of gallstone formation. Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between gallstone and histopathological changes of gallbladder mucosa among patients with gallstones. Samples consisted of 38 patients with gallstones who were performed elective cholecystectomy either by laparoscopy or by laparotomy on them. Gallstones were analyzed macroscopically to determine the types of stones. Specimens of resected gallbladders were examined histopathologically to obtain the changes of gallbladder mucosa. The results showed that macroscopical analysis resulted in three types of gallstones: cholesterol stone (76.3%), pigmented stone (21.1%), and mixed stone 2.6%). Histopathologically, all resected speciments showed changes of gallbladder mucosa in the forms of chronic inflammation or associated with hyperplasia. There was no incidental cases of gallbladder cancer. An analysis of the relationship between the types of stones and the histopathological changes of gallbladder mucosa with the chi-square test showed an X2 value of 0.483 and a P value of 0.392. Conclusion: In this study, there was no relationship between the types of gallstones and the histopathological changes of gallbladder mucosa among patients with gallstone.Keywords: gallstone, cholecystectomy, gallbladder mucosaAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan batu kandung empedu dengan perubahan mukosa kandung empedu pada pasien dengan batu kandung empedu. Sampel terdiri dari 38 pasien batu kandung empedu yang menjalani operasi elektif kolesistektomi, baik secara laparoskopik maupun secara terbuka. Batu kandung empedu dianalisis secara makroskopik untuk menentukan jenis batu. Spesimen reseksi kandung empedu diperiksa secara histopatologik untuk melihat ada tidaknya perubahan mukosa kandung empedu. Dari hasil analisis batu secara makroskopik didapatkan 3 jenis batu kandung empedu, yaitu batu kolesterol (76,3%), batu pigmen (21,1%), dan batu campuran (2,6%). Semua spesimen reseksi kandung empedu diperiksa secara histopatologik dan menunjukkan perubahan mukosa kandung empedu berupa radang kronis dan hiperplasia. Tidak terdapat penemuan secara insidental terhadap kanker kandung empedu. Analisis hubungan antara jenis batu kandung empedu dan perubahan mukosa kandung empedu dengan uji chi-square mendapatkan X2 = 0,483 dengan P = 0,392. Simpulan: Dalam penelitian ini tidak didapatkan hubungan antara jenis batu dan perubahan mukosa kandung empedu pada pasien dengan batu kandung empedu.Kata kunci: batu kandung empedu, kolesistektomi, mukosa kandung empedu

A new strain of mice, which had arisen by mutation from a dystrophic mouse colony was designated ‘mdx’, because the genetic defect, which manifests itself in brief periods of muscle destruction followed by episodes of muscle regeneration appears to be X-linked. Further studies of histopathological changes in muscle from ‘mdx’ mice at the light microscopic or electron microscopic levels have been published, but only one preliminary study has been on the tibialis anterior (TA) of ‘mdx’ mice less than four weeks old. Lesions in the ‘mdx’ mice vary between different muscles, and centronucleation of fibers in all muscles studied so far appears to be especially prominent in older mice. Lesions in young ‘mdx’ mice have not been studied extensively, and the results appear to be at variance with one another. The degenerative and regenerative aspects of the lesions in the TA of 23 to 26-day-old ‘mdx’ mice appear to vary quantitatively.

The heart is generally considered a radioresistant organ, and has received relatively little study after total-body irradiation with doses below the acutely lethal range. Some late damage in the irradiated heart has been described at the light microscopic level. However, since the dimensions of many important structures of the blood vessel wall are submicroscopic, investigators have turned to the electron microscope for adequate visualization of histopathological changes. Our studies are designed to evaluate ultrastructural changes in the mouse heart, particularly in the capillaries and muscle fibers, for 18 months after total-body exposure, and to compare the effects of 240 rad fission neutrons and 788 rad 60Co γ-rays.Three animals from each irradiated group and three control mice were sacrificed by ether inhalation at 4 days, and at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 18 months after irradiation. The thorax was opened and the heart was fixed briefly in situwith Karnofsky's fixative.

Abstract. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of α-tocopherol supplementation at two doses (600 and 1200 mg × kg–1) on kidney antioxidant status and the histopathological changes in Wistar rats after 12 weeks of exposure at different diets. Forty rats has been divided into 4 groups of 10 rats each, the control group received basal diet with 5 % fresh sunflower oil (FSO), the second group: 5 % oxidized sunflower oil (OSO), the third group: 5 % OSO supplemented with 600 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol and the fourth group: 5 % OSO supplemented with 1200 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol. In OSO groups, the results showed highly significant increases of LPO (from 31.3 ± 0.9 to 53.8 ± 1.2 nmol of MDA formed/min/mg protein, p < 0.0001) with a significant decrease (p < = 0.001) of the antioxidant enzymatic activities (CAT, SOD, GPX, GR and G6PDH), body weight (339 ± 9 to 290 ± 3 g) and α-tocopherol levels (13.6 ± 0.6 to 6.5 ± 0.4 μg/mg protein). In OSO groups with 600 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol, an antioxidant effect was found, reflected by a return of the parameters to values similar to those of the control group. However, higher doses of α-tocopherol (1200 mg × kg–1) induced a depletion of antioxidant status, α-tocopherol levels (6.0 ± 0.3 μg/mg protein, p < 0.001) and a very highly significant rise (p < 0.0001) of LPO content (54.86 ± 0.01 nmol of MDA formed/min/mg protein). The kidney tissues also showed changes in glomerular, severe inflammatory cells infiltration, and formation of novel vessels. So, we can conclude that the oxidative stress is attenuated by a moderate administration of 600 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol, while a pro-oxidant effect occurs at 1200 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol.

SummaryAmong the numerous existing computer-based systems for processing pathological data, none contains sufficient space for encoding data on the basic cytological or histological changes of a certain organ or tissue, upon which the final diagnosis is based.An “analytical record” was constructed listing all the basic changes that can be encountered in the various pathological conditions of the vascular wall. The data collected on the “analytical record” were coded by means of an alphanumeric code and stored in an Apple II 48 K minicomputer.The advantages of this system include the computerization of the data by non-specialized personnel and the possibility to’ quantitatively analyze the histocytopathological parameters used for diagnosis in vascular pathology. This coding system may easily be adapted, with minor modifications, to the histopathological study of other organs and tissues.

Background & Method: The study was conducted in the Department of Medicine Shyam Shah Medical College and Associated Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Rewa (M.P). History was followed by a careful clinical examination i.e. cardiovascular, respiratory and gastrointestinal and nervous system. Investigations had done included routine haematological examination, Biochemical analysis, urine examination, ECG, 2 D. Echo & Histopathological examination was done. Result: ST-T changes were most common finding in Aluminium phosphide poisoning in relation to mortality. However hyperkalemia was the most ominous finding associated with 100% mortality, ECG finding in EDB was normal ECG. The most ominous finding was arrhythmia which was associated with 100% mortality. Survivors of ethylene dibromide poisoning echocardiography was normal in 11 (84.61%) followed by pericardial effusion in 2 (15.38%) patients. Conclusion: Noteworthy finding was absence of correlation between cardiovascular involvement, histopathological changes and ECG findings. It was seen that even if ECG showed normal pattern there were significant histopathological changes in heart. Keywords: electro-cardiographic, Aluminium phosphide, ethylene dibromide & poisoning.
