Objective: To investigating the correlation among the functional capacity using 2-minute step test (2MST), the functional mobility using the time up and go (TUG) test, and the sit to stand test (STS) in hypertensive elderly people. Material and Methods: The correlational research design was used to evaluate the correlation among 2MST, TUG test, and STS test in 60 hypertensive elderly people. Each subject performed one trial in 2MST, and then performed three trials in TUG test, STS10 test, and STS60 test. A 5-minute rest period was given between each test. Results: Functional capacity was correlated with functional mobility in hypertensive elderly people. The results revealed that 2MST was negatively correlated with TUG test and STS10 test (r=–0.635 and –0.266, respectively). Whereas, the 2MST was positively correlated with STS60 test (r=0.521). Conclusion: The functional capacity was correlated with functional mobility in hypertensive elder subjects. Abstract Introduction: The increase in numbers of older adults in the workplace and in the number of years they spend in work prior to retiring has challenged health professionals to provide enable health conditions such that they may undertake occupational activity. Objective: To analyze the variables for functional ability, associated with work ability, in older adults who were government employees at a university. Methods: A cross-sectional design, with older workers aged 60 years old or over, located in different university centers and departments. A structured sociodemographic questionnaire was used to characterize the sample, and the Work Ability Index was used as an outcome variable for the associations, using the Timed Up and Go test, the handgrip strength test, the walking speed test and the chair sit to stand test. The Chi-squared test and Pearson correlation coefficient were used in the statistical analysis. The association of the factors of functional capacity was based on the odds ratio and 95% confidence interval, calculated using the Logistic Regression Model, as part of the SPSS statistical package for Windows. Results: A total of 258 staff participated in the investigation, with men (57.7%) and a lower age range (60 to 62 years old) predominating. Women differed in relation to falls after the age of 60 (p = 0.007) and in the last 12 months (p = 0.017). The mean Work Ability Index was 39.70 ± 5.64 points and a statistical association was ascertained between performance in the chair sit to stand test (OR = 2.26; p = 0.043). Muscle strength (r = 0.72; p < 0.000) and the chair sit to stand test (r = 0.73; p < 0.000) showed excellent correlation with work ability. Conclusion: The variables for functional capacity were associated with work ability.

Background Functional exercise capacity assessment is recommended in children with cystic fibrosis (CF). The six-minute walk test (6MWT) is a valid evaluation of exercise capacity but can be technically complex. Inversely, the sit-to-stand test (STST) is a simple method to evaluate exercise capacity, and is validated in healthy children and adults with CF. This study aimed to evaluate STST measurement properties in children and adolescents with CF. Methods In this multicenter study, children with CF (6 to 18 years) performed two iterations of both the STST and the 6MWT in a randomized order. Criterion validity was determined by assessing correlations between STST repetitions and 6MWT distance (6MWD). Intra-rater reliability, test-retest repeatability, mean bias and limits of agreement were also assessed. Relationships with other outcomes (i.e. respiratory and quadriceps muscle strength) and cardio-respiratory responses were analysed for both tests. Results Thirty-six children with CF were included (mean age 12.0 ±3.5 years and FEV1 95.8 ±25.0%). On average, 39.6 ±10.5 repetitions were performed during the STST and mean 6MWD was 596.0 ±102.6 meters. STST number of repetitions was significantly correlated with 6MWD (r = 0.48; p<0.01). Both tests had very good intra-rater reliability (ICCSTST = 0.91 (95%CI 0.76–0.96) and ICC6MWT = 0.94 (95%CI 0.85–0.97)), and a significant test-retest learning effect. The number of STST repetitions was not correlated with quadriceps or respiratory muscle strength test, and the STST induced fewer cardio-respiratory responses than the 6MWT. Conclusions The STST is an easy-to-use functional test with moderate criterion validity when compared to the 6MWT in children with CF, probably because both tests measure different components of functional exercise capacity. The STST is useful when the 6MWT is unfeasible, however further investigations are required to explore the clinical implications of STST results in children with CF. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by SARS-CoV-2 has spread at an alarming rate worldwide. Its dominant feature is arterial hypoxemia seen due to ventilation perfusion mismatch. This causes reduced oxygen diffusion that affects functional capacity. Six-minute walk test is one of the commonly used test which is used to assess functional ability. However, it is more time-consuming and requires a 30-m corridor which is not always easily available. Studies have shown that the 1-minute sit to stand test (1-MSTST) is also useful for assessing functional capacity of patients with respiratory dysfunction. The aim of the study was to understand COVID-19 patient’s response to 1-MSTST with respect to number of repetitions, oxygen saturation, heart rate and perceived rate of exertion. Statistically significant difference was seen in pre and post parameters of heart rate (Pre: 91.73 ±17.12, Post: 116.06 ± 20.18, p< 0.0001); SpO2 (Pre: 97.04 ± 3.37, Post: 95.40 ± 3.93, p=0.005) and RPE (Pre: 0. 07 ± 0.25, Post: 1.49 ± 1.22, p< 0.0001). A mean of 21.26 ± 6.84 repetitions of sit to stand were performed in a minute. COVID-19 patients, thus, have significantly reduced functional capacity similar to that of patients with other respiratory dysfunctions. Thus, results of this study will enable therapist to plan the rehabilitation in COVID-19 patients to improve their functional capacity. This will enhance their ability to perform in activities of daily living and to participate in societal work and therefore will help in improving their quality of life.
