Abstract People who have to make decisions about cost-effective management for gypsy moth need help in predicting and evaluating its effects. Field plot data collected during recent outbreaks in Pennsylvania are being used to develop guides for predicting forest stand losses to the pest Presented here are some of the more useful products of that effort to date. Easy-to-measure data for forest characteristics such as species composition and crown condition can be collected and applied in models that estimate potential stand and tree mortality and changes in timber value. Green development is an important way to meet the challenges of ecological and environmental protection and economic growth, as well as an inevitable choice to realize China’s sustainable development in the new era. The Chinese economic system is such that local government competition has become a key factor affecting regional green development under the current leadership. Based on the inter-provincial panel data of 30 provinces in mainland China from 1997 to 2017, this paper uses the total-factor non-radial directional distance function and slack-based measure data envelopment analysis (SBM-DEA) to measure the green development efficiency of the provinces. Additionally, it also uses the Malmquist–Luenberger (ML) index to decompose green development efficiency and analyzes its internal driving factors. Finally, taking environmental regulation as a mediating variable, this paper empirically analyzes the influence mechanism of local government competition on green development efficiency from three perspectives including growth competition, fiscal competition and investment competition. The study found that: the green development efficiency of Chinese regions showed a downward trend, with significant regional differences; technological progress is the key factor to improve the efficiency of green development, and its role gradually decreases from eastern to western and central regions; pure technical efficiency has become a bottleneck restricting the improvement of green development efficiency, while scale efficiency shows significant regional differences; the growth competition, fiscal competition and investment competition of local government all have a significant inhibitory effect on the efficiency of green development. This paper puts forward policy suggestions supporting enterprise technology research and development, optimizing energy conservation and emission reduction as well as improving the local government performance evaluation system for green development.

In this paper, we study the existence and multiplicity of solutions for the following fractional problem involving the Hardy potential and concave–convex nonlinearities: [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text] is a smooth bounded domain in [Formula: see text] containing [Formula: see text] in its interior, and [Formula: see text] with [Formula: see text] which may change sign in [Formula: see text]. We use the variational methods and the Nehari manifold decomposition to prove that this problem has at least two positive solutions for [Formula: see text] sufficiently small. The variational approach requires that [Formula: see text] [Formula: see text] [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text], the latter being the best fractional Hardy constant on [Formula: see text].

⋄ Objective Loss of residual renal function (RRF) in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients is a powerful predictor of mortality. The present study was conducted to determine the predictors of faster decline of RRF in PD patients in Taiwan. ⋄ Methods The study enrolled 270 patients starting PD between January 1996 and December 2005 in a single hospital in Taiwan. We calculated RRF as the mean of the sum of 24-hour urea and creatinine clearance. The slope of the decline of residual glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was the main outcome measure. Data on demographic, clinical, laboratory, and treatment parameters; episodes of peritonitis; and hypotensive events were analyzed by Student t-test, Mann–Whitney U-test, and chi-square, as appropriate. All variables with statistical significance were included in a multivariate linear regression model to select the best predictors ( p < 0.05) for faster decline of residual GFR. ⋄ Results All patients commencing PD during the study period were followed for 39.4 ± 24.0 months (median: 35.5 months). The average annual rate of decline of residual GFR was 1.377 ± 1.47 mL/min/m2. On multivariate analysis, presence of diabetes mellitus ( p < 0.001), higher baseline residual GFR ( p < 0.001), hypotensive events ( p = 0.001), use of diuretics ( p = 0.002), and episodes of peritonitis ( p = 0.043) independently predicted faster decline of residual GFR. Male sex, old age, larger body mass index, and presence of coronary artery disease or congestive heart failure were also risk factors on univariate analysis. ⋄ Conclusions Our results suggested that diabetes mellitus, higher baseline residual GFR, hypotensive events, and use of diuretics are independently associated with faster decline of residual GFR in PD patients in Taiwan.

Although the literature extensively covers the development of battery chargers control strategies, a comparison of these strategies remains a literary gap. The inherent conditions (i.e., State of Health and State of Charge) of each unit in the Battery Energy Storage Systems directly influence the charger control techniques for extending battery lifetime, which makes modular battery chargers an appealing topology for this analysis. This work groups charger control strategies presented in the literature into two: Adapted SoC strategies, directly linked to the field of overstress management, and SoH strategies, which are directly linked to the field of wear-out management. The methodology for comparing the control strategies encompasses battery lifetime, charger, and photovoltaic plant models. Three distinct cases were simulated using real measure data from a solar power plant and a battery model provided by MathWorks®. The results evidence that the Capacity Fade and Energy Throughput strongly depend on the strategy. The controller action evidences the previous statement, as the strategies have different goals that are related to each field. Furthermore, this work analyses the effect of the estimation process in the action of the controller.

Abstract In the present paper, we study the existence of nonnegative solutions to the Dirichlet problem ℒ p , q M ⁢ u := - Δ ⁢ u + u p - M ⁢ | ∇ ⁡ u | q = μ {{\mathcal{L}}^{{M}}_{p,q}u:=-\Delta u+u^{p}-M|\nabla u|^{q}=\mu} in a domain Ω ⊂ ℝ N {\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}} where μ is a nonnegative Radon measure, when p > 1 {p>1} , q > 1 {q>1} and M ≥ 0 {M\geq 0} . We also give conditions under which nonnegative solutions of ℒ p , q M ⁢ u = 0 {{\mathcal{L}}^{{M}}_{p,q}u=0} in Ω ∖ K {\Omega\setminus K} , where K is a compact subset of Ω, can be extended as a solution of the same equation in Ω.
