A series of novel biphenylnate liquid crystalline polyurethanes (BLCPs) were synthesized by polyaddition reaction of 4,4’-dihydroxybiphenyl with 2,4-TDI(2,4-toluenediisocyanate) and diethylene glycol through changing the molar ratio of diphenol and diol. The thermotropic properties, the melting point (Tm) and the isotropization temperature (Ti) of the synthesized polyurethanes were characterized by FT-IR, DSC, POM and WXRD. The results of experiments showed that all of the polyurethane polymers exhibited thermotropic liquid crystalline properties between 130°C and 230°C. The transition temperature (Tm and Ti) decreased with an increase in the length of the flexible chain.

A wide variety of phosphonium ionic liquids containing fluorous ponytails Rfn (Rfn = –(CF2)n–1CF3; n = 4, 6, 10) are synthesized by the reaction of Rfn-(CH2)2-I with trialkylphosphines (R3P; R = Me, nBu, nOct). The efficacy of multiple metathetical routes to anion exchange have been investigated, thus the corresponding BF4–, PF6–, tosylate (OTs–) and triflate (OTf–) derivatives have also been prepared. All compounds have been comprehensively characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, ESI-MS, DSC, and TGA/SDTA, and in the case of [Me3PCH2CH2Rf4][I] by single crystal X-ray diffraction. These materials range from high melting solids (e.g., [Me3P(CH2)2Rf4][I] Tm = 195 °C) to very low melting liquids (e.g., [nOct3P(CH2)2Rf4][OTf] Tg = –64 °C), and they all have high thermal decomposition points (295 to 394 °C). Incorporation of the more weakly coordinating BF4– and PF6– yielded a significant increase in the melting point of the materials, in contrast to OTf– and OTs– derivatives, which all exhibited significantly depressed melting points.Key words: phosphonium ionic liquids, alternative solvents, fluorine, phosphorus, fluorous ponytails.

Abstract Wieland Duro Tungsten is unalloyed tungsten produced from pressed-and-sintered billets. The high melting point of tungsten makes it an obvious choice for structural applications exposed to very high temperatures. Tungsten is used at lower temperatures for applications that can benefit from its high density, high modulus of elasticity, or radiation shielding capability. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on machining. Filing Code: W-34. Producer or source: Wieland Duro GmbH.

Antibacterial activity and fire retardation are equally desired for protective clothing. For achieving this, AgNP and MgO are independently researched as nanofillers in Polyurethane based electrospun nanofibers and their synergistic effect is scarcely addressed. This article reports synthesis and characterization of MgO of 70.01 nm and AgNP of 51 to 76 nm by solution combustion and hydrothermal routes respectively and their incorporation in electrospinning of Polyurethane. Flow rate 1 ml/hr, applied voltage 13 kV, tip to collector distance 15 cm were adopted for the electrospinning. Nanofibers of 65 nm were obtained for PU/MgO (3 wt. %) and 106 nm for PU/MgO (3 wt. %)/Ag (1 wt. %). Addition of MgO increased the melting point, after flame time and afterglow time. Incorporation of AgNP improved antibacterial activity. PU/MgO/Ag (2 wt. %) exhibited zone of inhibition of 2.1 cm and 3 cm against E. Coli and S. Aureus, respectively.
