The article’s objective is to review domestic and foreign sources related with big data, in order to determine the potentials for their practical applications at industry level, with emphasis on book publishing. The main components of big data are highlighted, which form the reference model for big data management. An all-purpose model for big data processing is constructed by use of the analyzed information sources. A brief review of Hadoop big data analysis program is carried out. Applications of big data to improve business processes are analyzed with reference to renowned international companies, Internet platforms engaged in electronic commerce, and social networks. A brief review of Ukrainian cases of successful electronic commerce is made. As regards big data applications in book publishing, reference is made to the practices of Jellybooks company. The algorithm of big data collection by use of electronic book is constructed and illustrated. It is concluded that any industry is capable to adapt the successful practices of electronic commerce leaders after leaning them. As far as book publishing is concerned, a well-organized system for on-line data collection will open up opportunities for quick production of statistical information, extension of the range of statistical data, monitoring of the current book publishing performance and prediction of its future developments.

Studying social media's presence and prevalence of use in a specific context can be challenging to researchers who may need a comprehensive data collection strategy and sizable amount of resources. Using a population of university libraries' special collections websites based on purposive sampling strategy, the researchers want to find out how social media is used or integrated in the delivery of special collections services. The findings provided an opportunity for researchers to discuss the importance of creating a model for designing an expanded study, and for generating preliminary ideas pertaining to development of policies relevant to the integration of social media particularly in special collections, and in academic libraries as a whole.

The Baduys are rice farming communities who rely on nature and the forest. Therefore, they keep and maintain their forests through customs and cultural practices. Dudungusan is preserved forest, prohibited for cultivation. Garapan is the land that can be processed into fields (huma), following the needs and rules of cultivation. Although the Baduys live in groups in small villages at the foot and slopes of hills or mountains, they keep and follow their local wisdom. This is evident from the review and the community activities that have been done earlier. There are records of the knowledge, views, and understanding of the old and young Baduys about forest conservation and identifying existing problems. The method used is the dissemination and sharing of knowledge. The results of the data collection and identification of the reference model of socialization, or carean, are used to understand the local knowledge about forest conservation. The Baduy residents in Kampong Balimbing who are involved in the research are the kokolot, or the class of older generation, whereas the youth group are participating in the process. In general, the activity is well-shared for both for the older and younger generation. In addition to this, the residents of other Baduy villages may learn from Kampong Balimbing’s wisdom.

AbstractPurposeSevere acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has spread worldwide causing a global health emergency. Pa-COVID-19 aims to provide comprehensive data on clinical course, pathophysiology, immunology and outcome of COVID-19, in order to identify prognostic biomarkers, clinical scores, and therapeutic targets for improved clinical management and preventive interventions.MethodsPa-COVID-19 is a prospective observational cohort study of patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection treated at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. We collect data on epidemiology, demography, medical history, symptoms, clinical course, pathogen testing and treatment. Systematic, serial blood sampling will allow deep molecular and immunological phenotyping, transcriptomic profiling, and comprehensive biobanking. Longitudinal data and sample collection during hospitalization will be supplemented by long-term follow-up.ResultsOutcome measures include the WHO clinical ordinal scale on day 15 and clinical, functional and health-related quality of life assessments at discharge and during follow-up. We developed a scalable dataset to (i) suit national standards of care (ii) facilitate comprehensive data collection in medical care facilities with varying resources and (iii) allow for rapid implementation of interventional trials based on the standardized study design and data collection. We propose this scalable protocol as blueprint for harmonized data collection and deep phenotyping in COVID-19 in Germany.ConclusionWe established a basic platform for harmonized, scalable data collection, pathophysiological analysis, and deep phenotyping of COVID-19, which enables rapid generation of evidence for improved medical care and identification of candidate therapeutic and preventive strategies. The electronic database accredited for interventional trials allows fast trial implementation for candidate therapeutic agents.

The object of research is the professional activity of an air traffic controller of the airport traffic control tower (henceforth Tower controller). The subject of research is the regularities revealing in this specialist activity in the performance of its work responsibility for the trainee reference model formation in the intelligent training system «ATC of Tower». One of the most problematic areas is the lack of training systems that would allow for independent training of these aviation specialists, whose knowledge assessment would be automatic and objective. The study used methods of analysis, combined timing, synthesis, statistical analysis and probabilistic modelling. The approach to data collection and analysis proposed as part of study made it possible to obtain an information flows circulation model at the Tower controller workplace and formalize the time characteristics of technological operations performed by it during the aircraft landing procedure. This is fundamentally important for the development of the trainee reference model of the intellectual training system, as well as for the implementation of the training mode and automatic objective assessment of the student’s knowledge and skills. The approbation obtained results of this approach of data collection and analysis make it possible to consider it an effective tool for obtaining objective information about the subject area of the Tower controller’s professional activity, which is a complex continuous-discrete stochastic dynamic control system with a mixed structure. In contrast to the formation of reference models existing approaches, the approach to collecting and analysing data proposed in the work makes it possible to develop a trainee reference model that more fully describes the Tower controller’s activities. Also, the proposed model reflects the order of actions, and when interacting with the trainee current model, it allows to implement objective (without an instructor) automatic assessment.

This article considers the changing logics of surveillance in the era of automated data collection and processing. It argues that automation results in the emergence of post-disciplinary forms of monitoring that no longer rely on the subject’s internalization of the monitoring gaze. Such forms of monitoring do not displace other forms of surveillance but represent a new development made possible by the promise that comprehensive data collection will allow prediction and pre-emption to replace deterrence. In the context of predictive analytics, simulated futures serve as the basis for ongoing processes of intervention that take place in the present. The parsimony of the panopticon, which traded on the uncertainty provided by its partial gaze, is replaced by the tendency toward comprehensive monitoring associated with the proliferation of distributed, embedded, always-on sensing networks. The resulting forms of automated surveillance are characterized by post-representational logics that I describe in terms of operationalism, environmentality, and framelessness.
