The studies reported here focus on similarities and dissimilarities between the terminal value hierarchies ( Rokeach, 1973 ) ascribed to different groups ( Schwartz & Struch, 1990 ). In Study 1, n = 65 East Germans and n = 110 West Germans mutually assess the respective ingroup and outgroup. In this intra-German comparison the West Germans, with a mean intraindividual correlation of rho = 0.609, perceive a significantly greater East-West similarity between the group-related value hierarchies than the East Germans, with a mean rho = 0.400. Study 2 gives East German subjects either a Swiss (n = 58) or Polish (n = 59) frame of reference in the comparison between the categories German and East German. Whereas the Swiss frame of reference should arouse a need for uniqueness, the Polish frame of reference should arouse a need for similarity. In accordance with expectations, the Swiss frame of reference significantly reduces the correlative similarity between German and East German from a mean rho = 0.703 in a control group (n = 59) to a mean rho = 0.518 in the experimental group. Contrary to expectations, the Polish frame of reference does not lead to an increase in perceived similarity (mean rho = 0.712).

<p>The Central Andes are characterized by a steep climatic and environmental gradient with large spatial and temporal variations of associated hydrological parameters. There are two main atmospheric processes that influence climate conditions in our study area in northwestern Argentina: the South American Monsoon System that transports moisture via the low-level jet and the orographic barrier of the Eastern Cordillera that forces focused rainfall at the windward facing slopes.<br>As part of the International Research Training Group-StRATEGy project, our research aims at monitoring integrated water vapour (IWV) in the south-central Andes, in order to track moisture propagation. In accordance with the needs of the research, we processed data from two new Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) ground stations that were installed in spring 2019 along with - already calculated - solutions that were derived from an existing network. We used 10 year-long time-series from 31 stations spanning an altitude range from 198 to 5141m asl and stretching from the mountain front to the interior of the mountain range. This enhanced network helped us to examine spatial correlations, as well as differences in behaviour of the IWV across the climatic gradient. Moreover, we retrieved the gradients of the IWV at single positions, in order to study seasonal correlations between wind and gradient direction.</p>

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) deliver absolute position and velocity, as well as time information (P, V, T). However, in urban areas, the GNSS navigation performance is restricted due to signal obstructions and multipath. This is especially true for applications dealing with highly automatic or even autonomous driving. Subsequently, multi-sensor platforms including laser scanners and cameras, as well as map data are used to enhance the navigation performance, namely in accuracy, integrity, continuity and availability. Although well-established procedures for integrity monitoring exist for aircraft navigation, for sensors and fusion algorithms used in automotive navigation, these concepts are still lacking. The research training group i.c.sens, integrity and collaboration in dynamic sensor networks, aims to fill this gap and to contribute to relevant topics. This includes the definition of alternative integrity concepts for space and time based on set theory and interval mathematics, establishing new types of maps that report on the trustworthiness of the represented information, as well as taking advantage of collaboration by improved filters incorporating person and object tracking. In this paper, we describe our approach and summarize the preliminary results.

<p>Peatlands serve as important ecosystems since they store a substantial fraction of global soil carbon. Through draining the internal biogeochemical processes may be changed impacting the transformation of stored carbon and plant material. Pristine peatlands are primarily associated with methanogenic and iron-cycling conditions, however, minor sulfur cycling may contribute to carbon mineralization in these ecosystems depending on the amount of atmospheric sulfur deposition and accumulation. In near coastal peatlands the element budget may be altered through natural or artificial flooding by brackish/marine waters. When introducing sulfate-bearing solutions, the concentrations of electron acceptors for anaerobic mineralization or organic matter increase when compared to fresh water conditions. The investigated area is planned to be flooded by Baltic Sea coastal waters in the near future.</p><p>Here we present results from a study from a drained peatland located in the southern part of the Baltic Sea. In the past the area was agriculturally used as grassland. Soil cores were retrieved along a transect perpendicular to the coast line for (isotope) biogeochemical analyses of pore water and solid phases. Analyses included the CNS composition of soils, and dissolved major elements, nutrients, sulphide, trace metals and stable isotopes of water, DIC, and sulfate (H, O, C, S). Furthermore, acid-extractions of metals were carried out to identify zones of dissolution and formation of authigenic phases. For quantification of microbial sulphate reduction rates (SRR) additional cores were retrieved and SRR were measured in whole-core incubations.<span> </span></p><p>The pore water isotopic composition is close to the local meteoric water line at the German Baltic Seas coast line. Concentration and stable isotope composition of DIC indicate mineralization of C3 type organic matter. Pore water trace metals content indicates the importance of anaerobic mineralization for release of metals into the pore and surface waters.</p><p> </p><p>Acknowledgement: This study is supported by the DFG research training group BALTIC TRANSCOAST and Leibniz IOW.</p>
