The paper studies the role of alternative and renewable energy sources (ARES) in the maintenance of Azerbaijan’s energy security. In the view of annual depletion of reserves capacity of such traditional natural resources as the oil, gas, coal, shale and the environmental disorder in their usage, as well as considering the fact of their implementation as the major pressure means serving to the geopolitical interests of the countries, due to the instability and variability of the fuel types prices in the world market, the necessity of surveying new alternative and renewable energy sources in the region is marked. It is pointed out that wide-scale recovery of alternative and renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan will lead to the involving of oil-gas raw into the petrochemical industry, to the decrease of degree of the harmful man-made effect on the environment in the process of energy production, as well as to the significant reduction of economic dependence on the various fuel types. The methods of increasing the production capacity of alternative energies in the strengthening of country’s energetic safety by the acceleration of implementation process of alternative and renewable energy sources were studied and the significance of the development of oil concept considered the essential of long-term maintenance of national energy safety marked as well.

The energy sector in Poland is currently calling for dynamic redevelopment and cleaner energy. This country is world famous for its high level of coal production, from which it does not want to retreat in the next two decades. For this reason, it is safer to gradually reduce the use of coal while increasing the consumption of gas and simultaneously developing green energy. However, the Polish gas sector is still dependent on Russian gas supplied through the Yamal gas pipeline. Taking into consideration Polish geopolitics, this state of affairs poses a huge challenge and a threat to Poland’s energy security. That is why the concept of the North-South Gas Corridor was introduced. It is intended to be a network of gas pipelines that connect the countries of Central and South Europe to two gas terminals (in Poland and Croatia), which will supply gas from a chosen source. This article presents the current condition of the gas sector in Poland. It focuses on the North-South Gas Corridor project and its impact on the energy security of Poland. An analysis of documents and field research shows that the North-South Gas Corridor provides Poland with an opportunity to diversify the sources and directions of gas supply over the next few years.

There are many issues with the continued use of fossil fuels for energy, including finite supply, energy security and their contribution to rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations and climate change, leading to substantial, increased interest in the research and development of renewable energy. In 2006, renewable energy provided only 2.5% of global energy needs, which is well short of the national renewable energy targets of many countries for the period 2020-2030, including Australia. For these reasons there is substantial investment in the development of renewable fuel technologies. Bioethanol and biodiesel derived from biomass are alternative fuels for which production capacity and demand is rapidly increasing.

The National Energy General Plan (RUEN) has set 11.6 million kiloliters of biodiesel production target in 2025. The determination of biodiesel production targets in RUEN is part of the objectives mandated in the National Energy Policy (KEN), which is to achieve energy security and independence. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the impact of biodiesel agroindustry on the achievement of national energy security in 2025. The simulation conducted in this study uses Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning (LEAP) software, which based on the accounting model. The model has run on Business as Usual (BAU) scenario, using four dimensions and 12 indicators of energy security in the context of biodiesel agroindustry. Model simulation results show a decreasing energy security trend in the period of 2022-2025, while the biodiesel production target, which was set at RUEN, cannot be achieved in 2025. This is mainly related to availability and affordability, which experienced a decline in the period. Further research needs to be done on the strategy of developing biodiesel agroindustry by considering scenarios of increasing production capacity and productivity as well as its impact on national energy security.

The analysis is carried out and the problems of the current state of mining in the coal mines of the Russian Donbass are identified. To increase the efficiency of their work, it is proposed to create a mathematical model that allows tracing the probable zones of tectonic disturbance. We apply this technique for the southeastern wing of the inclined part of the mine field of the Sadkinskaya mine. On the basis of the constructed forecast map of coal seam disturbance, we solve the problem of choosing the optimal cutting of a section of a mine field. To do this, we make a technical and economic assessment taking into account such factors as: losses and quality of mined coal, production capacity of the mine and time for preparation and development, volume of capital investments, cost, taking into account costs when crossing disturbed zones.

The consumption of coal is increasing continuously with the development of economy. Coal accounting for 70% of total primary energy supply is the most key energy source in China. Thus, the modernization construction of coal industry is very important for China. The goal of this study is to research the present situation and future tasks of large-scale coal bases and modern mines construction in China. The results show that China is orderly constructing 14 large-scale coal bases. In the large-scale coal bases, more and more modern mines have been built, but Chinese coal industry modernization level still remains a lower level. At the same time, the results show that modern mine construction is not balanced in different bases. Based on the existing experience, therefore, promoting coal production capacity, applying the advanced technologies or methods, and advancing further modern mine construction, are major tasks of Chinese coal industry at present and in the future.

The coal production capacity is determined by many factors, such as geological conditions, production conditions, transportation conditions, environmental factors, coal reserves and so on. The coal reserves play a fundamental role in these factors. Therefore, this paper analyzes whether existing reserves in Shanxi Province could support coal production target which is made by government of Shanxi Province after the integration of coal resources from the perspective of coal reserves. The purpose of this paper is to achieve better sustainable development of coal resources in Shanxi Province.
