This paper discusses the application of the network traffic simulation model INTEGRATION to a 35-km section of Highway 401 in Toronto, Canada. Results for the eastbound direction from 4 a.m. to 12 noon are presented. Existing freeway conditions are quantified using data from the COMPASS freeway traffic management system and from a floating car travel time survey. Variations that exist in observed link flows and trip travel durations over time of day and day of week are examined. The extent to which COMPASS data meets the data requirements of the INTEGRATION model is examined. Since the current COMPASS system encompassed less than 50% of the network analyzed, complications arise in accurately estimating the prevailing time-varying origin–destination demands, as well as in comprehensively validating the simulation model's results. The present level of model calibration results in a correlation coefficient of estimated and observed link flows of 97.23%. This level of discrepancy is generally within the natural day-to-day variations that are inherent within the system. However, travel times estimated by the simulation model tend to be underestimated, particularly for the express lanes. Further model calibration, to improve the model's results, is deferred until more of the network is covered by COMPASS. Nearly all of the Egyptian hospitals are currently suffering from shortage in rare blood types (e.g., -AB, -B, +AB), which are needed to perform vital surgeries. This leads them (hospitals or doctors) to ask patients' relatives to donate the amount of the required blood. The alternative is that they are forced to pay for the blood if the required type and amount is already available in these hospitals or the blood banks. The main idea of this work is solving problems related to the blood banks from collecting blood from donators to distributing blood bags for interested hospitals. This system is developed in order to enhance the management, performance, and the quality of services for the management of blood banks, which will be positively reflected on many patients in hospitals. This chapter targets undergraduate students, academic researchers, development engineers, and course designers and instructors.

Rice growers and researchers are endowed with an enormously rich germ plasm of pantropical distribution, mostly conserved before serious genetic erosion sets in. Efficient management of the conserved resources and effective use of the diverse gene pools justify arduous and costly investments in conservation. A sound conservation system requires adequate field space for seed increase and rejuvenation, cost-efficient and secure storage facilities, a database management system, availability of conserved materials and related information to users, and vigilant monitoring of seed viability. Linkage with evaluators, breeders, and biotechnologists is essential for full use of the conserved materials. Periodic consultation with specialists will extend a collection's usefulness, through further collection or re-collection of germ plasm and in situ conservation, compatibility of documentation systems, and enhanced interinstitutional and international collaboration. Training of germ-plasm workers should be part of the management system. The continuity in human resources will provide security, their dedication will ensure service, interdisciplinary communication will promote use. Improving the capability of national genebanks augments the security of collections preserved at duplicate sites. Gene-bank management must be sustained by adequate administrative and financial support. An effective public information program will further ensure support and security.Key words: rice, Oryza sativa, genetic resources, genetic conservation, gene-bank management.
