Abstract In order to better understand the role of transportation convenience in location preferences, as well as to uncover transportation system patterns that span multiple modes of transportation, we analyze 500 locations in the Tokyo area using properties of their multimodal transportation networks. Multiple sets of measures are used to cluster regions by their transportation features and to classify them by their synergistic properties and dominant mode of transportation. We use twelve measures collected at five different radii for five distinct combinations of transportation networks to rank locations by their transportation characteristics. We introduce an additional 114 scores derived from the 300 measures to assess, among other things, access to public transportation, the effectiveness of each mode of transportation, and synergies among the modes of transportation. Additionally, we leverage those scores to classify our locations as being train-centric, bus-centric, or car-centric and to uncover geographic patterns in these characteristics. We find that business hubs, despite having low populations, are so conveniently reachable via train and road systems that they consistently achieve the highest sociability and convenience scores. Suburban regions have more serviceable bus systems, but lower connectivity overall resulting in lower reachable populations despite greater local populations. Even though Tokyo has the largest and densest public transportation system in the world we find that the road network consistently dominates the train and bus networks for all accessibility measures.

Abstract Background: For many people public transport is the only mode of travel, and it can be challenging to keep the necessary distances in such a restricted space. The exact role of public transportation and risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission is not known. Methods: Participants (n=121 374) were untested adult Norwegian residents recruited through social media who in the spring of 2020 completed a baseline questionnaire on demographics and use of public transport. Incident cases (n=1069) had a positive SARS-CoV-2 polymerase chain reaction test registered at the Norwegian Messaging System for Infectious Diseases by January 27, 2021. We investigated the association between use of public transport and SARS-CoV-2 using logistic regression. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) adjusted for age, calendar time, gender, municipality, smoking, income level, fitness and underlying medical conditions were estimated. Frequency of use of public transport was reported for 2 week-periods. Results: Before lockdown, those who tested positive on SARS-CoV-2 were more likely to have used public transport 1-3 times (OR =1.28, CI 1.09-1.51), 4-10 times (OR=1.49, CI 1.26-1.77) and ≥11 times (OR=1.50, CI 1.27-1.78, p for trend<0.0001) than those who had not tested positive. Conclusion: Use of public transport was positively associated with contracting SARS-CoV-2 both before and after lockdown.

ABSTRACTThe project of research-creation “Flaubert 20 routes” (the video register of different interventions in public transportation in Bogota) revealed how public buses can be converted into a mobile stage for spontaneous theater. This context gives rise to the reflections of an actress, adapted from texts by Gustave Flaubert dealing with civility and social coexistence in what the he calls the good society. It is a stage inhabited daily by passengers who at the same time are recognizable characters of the urban environment. From the perspective of a video camera we observe that it is the public itself who decides to enter the game, assuming and recognizing the role of spect-actor (Boal) of everyday circumstances. From an ironic standpoint, several anthropological, cultural and political concomitances reveal themselves in these theatrical situations. t Archivo fotográfico: Cristina ALejandra JiménezKEYWORDSFlaubert, buses, city, theatricality, transit, Bogota. Prior studies have identified that enhancing a city’s walkability could be helpful in revitalizing an old, decayed or blighted downtown. While the benefits of walking are obvious and have been widely explored especially in terms of health and environment, this paper explores the potential of Machinoeki as a push factor in changing the mindset of a community about walking. A pilot survey was conducted to understand the interests of people in selecting their mode of transport and to communicate with the willingness of respondents to change their attitude by introducing facilities that can promote walking needs. To gather a collection of respondents and further to illustrate the role of Machinoeki, a simple random sampling method was used. The paper concludes that while Machinoeki has the right facilities to encourage walking, more research is needed to demonstrate the link between facilities with the community's preference for walking in town. In this analysis, however, we found that the Machinoeki components have the potential to be a push factor with respect to the positive responses of 72 percent of respondents to Machinoeki's ability to encourage walking. Abstract The main purpose of the paper was the structural analysis of the connections network used by a railway carrier Koleje Dolnośląskie S.A. operating in southern Poland. The analysis used simulation methods. The analysis and simulation were based on graph theory, which is successfully used in analysing a wide variety of networks (social, biological, computer, virtual and transportation networks). The paper presents indicators which allow judging the analysed connections network according to an appropriate level of transport services. Simulation results allowed proposing some modifications for the improvement of the analysed connections network. The paper also demonstrates that graph theory and network simulations should be used as tools by transportation companies during the stage of planning a connections network.

Public transportation is one of the most critical needs for a city, including in Indonesia. The fast and dynamic movement of society makes public transportation expected to accommodate the needs of city residents to move more quickly and efficiently. Available public transport can also reduce congestion because many city residents are switching from their private vehicles. Many cities in Indonesia are competing to develop their public transportation to modernize the life of the town. Problems will arise if the city government does not learn from history in planning the development of public transport in the city. This study aims to examine the role of historical science in the development of urban public transportation in Indonesia. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative through literature review by analyzing data and information according to the topic of the research topic. The data and information are sourced from 20 journal articles and five credible online portal sites with published years between 2019-2021. The result of this study is the role of historical science in the development of urban public transportation in Indonesia as a reference for city governments to reorganize their transportation systems in the future. This research has research limitations on the development of urban public transport in Indonesia in the 21st century. The researcher recommends further research on the role and benefits of historical science in improving urban public transportation in Indonesia to complement some lacking things from this research. At the same time was adding to the scientific treasures for many people, significant position holders in city government to be more intense in using historical knowledge as an essential study to encourage a better civilization of a city by improving the public transportation system.

This study investigates the role of physical mobility in street harassment by analyzing a stratified random sample of 334 cases posted to Hollaback!, an online community documenting experiences of street harassment. Findings suggest that harassers utilize means of transportation as weapons to inflict or threaten physical harm, to escape or preserve anonymity, and to pursue targets and as a hunting ground for potential targets. By identifying the mechanisms of street harassment, we theorize how harassers negotiate mobility—particular types of mobility, especially that which is enabled by public transportation and owner vehicles—to gain advantage over targets of harassment.
