It is stated that Diamond saw blades requires high embedding strength of the diamond, while diamond drill bits do not. It is necessary to improve the embedding strength of diamond in diamond saw blades, rather than in the diamond drilling bits. It is recommended to count the number of diamond particles on the matrix surface and get the embedding strength of diamond by calculation. Another recommendation is to use the compound powder of cobalt and tungsten carbide for pelletizing in order to improve the embedding strength of diamond and lower the cost of matrix. There are people studying how to raise embedding strength of diamond, for both diamond saw blades and diamond drilling bit. However, the requirements for embedding strength of diamond saw blades and diamond drilling bit are different. The following parts include the analysis for this problem.

Powder metallurgy-based technologies of saw blades production for stone cutting normally uses cobalt as binder agent. Cobalt was chosen for that purpose because it provides improved properties, high wettability and good adhesion between dispersed diamond particles. In addition to its excellent physical properties, cobalt also shows a positive behavior associated with the control of diamond graphitization at temperatures up to 1000°C. In this work, an experimental planning method supported by a mathematical algorithm was used to study the influence of doping agents incorporated into cobalt-based binders. The consequences on the wear resistance of saw blades, as well as on other physical and mechanical properties of the “diamond-cobalt-doping agent” composites were investigated. Cr3C2, Si, Ni and Fe were used as doping agents. Experimental tests were carried out using granite as a base material for wear and cutting operations.

To solve the problem of coal-rock damage during cutting coal and rock by diamond saw blade — the LS-DYNA diamond saw blade — coal and rock finite element model is established. According to the fracture mechanism of brittle materials, by studying a single diamond saw blade with different cutting speeds and revolution speeds along with double diamond saw blades with different spacing, cutting speeds and cutting speeds of coal-rock damage, axial force and force change, the numerical simulation resultant demonstrated the axial force, cutting force and rock damage decrease significantly with an increase in rotational speed. The force and damage increase with an increase in the cutting speed and a decrease in the distance of the diamond saw blade. The axial force linearly increases with rotational speed and cutting speed. The cutting force exponentially decreases with increasing rotational speed, and it increases with increasing feeding speed. The forces decrease linearly with the increasing distance of the diamond saw blades. The damage degree of rock increases as the distance and rotational speed increase, and it decreases as the cutting speed increases.

The structure reliability of the diamond saw blade in milling process is studied. With probability design features of ANSYS, take the flange diameter ,thickness, diameter of the diamond saw blade and load suffered in the milling process as input variables, and take the maximum equivalent stress of dangerous parts of the diamond saw blades stress as output variable. The diamond saw blade structure reliability is analysed using Monte Carlo method and the maximum equivalent stress value cumulative distribution and dangerous parts of various parameters on the distribution of the maximum equivalent stress sensitivity under the impact of the load are got. The result provides a theoretical basis for improving the parameters of diamond saw blade and has the significant practical and theoretical value for the stone processing theory and diamond saw blade study.

In this paper, it is assumed that diamond’s cross-section is hexagonal, which is similar to the actual condition. At first the diamond cutting depth of diamond drill bits and diamond saw blades has been calculated and analyzed. A variety of diamond size and diamond exposure difference has also been calculated and analyzed. It is shown that the cutting depth of single diamond was generally below 0.02mm and the difference on diamond exposure between coarse and fine diamond must be less than diamond cutting depth to achieve efficient rock breaking. Some diamond size design methods are acquired via the calculations and analysis.
