Abstract Context: We reported recently the induction of iodide accumulation in prostate cancer cells (LNCaP) by prostate-specific antigen promoter-directed sodium iodide symporter (NIS) expression that allowed a significant therapeutic effect of 131iodine (131I). These data demonstrated the potential of the NIS gene as a novel therapeutic gene, although in some extrathyroidal tumors, therapeutic efficacy may be limited by rapid iodide efflux due to a lack of iodide organification. Objective: In the current study, we therefore studied the potential of 188rhenium (188Re), as an alternative radionuclide, also transported by NIS, with a shorter half-life and higher energy β-particles than 131I. Results: NIS-transfected LNCaP cells (NP-1) concentrated 8% of the total applied activity of 188Re as compared with 16% of 125I, which was sufficient for a therapeutic effect in an in vitro clonogenic assay. γ-Camera imaging of NP-1 cell xenografts in nude mice revealed accumulation of 8–16% injected dose (ID)/g 188Re (biological half-life 12.9 h), which resulted in a 4.7-fold increased tumor absorbed dose (450 mGy/MBq) for 188Re as compared with 131I. After application of 55.5 MBq 131I or 188Re, smaller tumors showed a similar average volume reduction of 86%, whereas in larger tumors volume reduction was significantly increased from 73% after 131I treatment to 85% after application of 188Re. Conclusion: Although in smaller prostate cancer xenografts both radionuclides seemed to be equally effective after prostate-specific antigen promoter-mediated NIS gene delivery, a superior therapeutic effect has been demonstrated for 188Re in larger tumors.

The paper is aimed at optimal treatment of posttraumatic cervical pathology. 192 patients with cervical erosive ectropion (67 patients with CIN I) have been observed. The results of the conventional treatment made according to the clinical protocols (control group; n = 64) have been compared with the results of the patient's management according to the proposed algorithm (main group; n = 128). The algorithm includes microsurgical intervention, prolonged use of combined oral contraceptives or dienogest during 6–12 weeks, non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs immediately after excision, and regenerative agents not earlier than at the fourth week after the excision. The six months after the minor operation the positive therapeutic effect was 1,7 times higher in the main group. The frequency of complications was significantly lower: implant cervical endometriosis – 3,6 times, retention cysts – 4,2 times, abnormal scarring – 3,8 times, relapses of endocervical ectopia and CIN – 2,2 times, postcoagulation hemorrhage – 2,75 times, leukoplakia – 2,6 times. The use of integrated algorithm in the treatment of the cervical erosive ectropion is clinical reasonable.

A comparative study of the level of endogenous S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) with other hepatoprotectors in pharmacological correction of liver drug lesion. Among 117 male rats. It has been shown that among antituberculous drugs only Remaxol and Runihol were causing significant increase in endogenic SAM. Taking into account the amelioration of lab results as well as histological condition of the liver against the background of Remaxol treatment as well as positive effect of Runihol treatment upon cholestasis, one can draw a conclusion  upon the importance of succinic acid together with SAM induction as a part of hepatoprotective effect of the drug.  Reamberin, which contains succinic acid without methionine also shows hepatoprotective qualities and doesn’t induce endogenous SAM production. Positive therapeutic effect of exogenous SAM regardless the way of administration doesn’t correlate with endogenous SAM induction, and is associated with the external hepatocyte cell membrane restoration.
