ABSTRACTThe effect of heat transfer on the axisymmetric flow of MHD micropolar fluid between two radially stretching sheets is described. The governing partial differential equations are reduced into the ordinary differential equations by using transformations. The resulting problems are solved by homotopy analysis method (HAM). Dimensionless velocities and temperature are plotted for the variation of influential parameters. The local skin friction coefficient, local couple stress coefficient and Nusselt number are tabulated with respect to the influence of several physical parameters.

This work considers steady, laminar, MHD flow of a micropolar fluid past a stretched semi-infinite, vertical and permeable surface in the presence of temperature dependent heat generation or absorption, magnetic field and thermal radiation effects. A set of similarity parameters is employed to convert the governing partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. The obtained self-similar equations are solved numerically by an efficient implicit, iterative, finite-difference method. The obtained results are checked against previously published work for special cases of the problem in order to access the accuarcy of the numerical method and found to be in excellent agreement. A parametric study illustrating the influence of the various physical parameters on the skin friction coefficient, microrotaion coefficient or wall couple stress as well as the wall heat transfer coefficient or Nusselt number is conducted. The obtained results are presented graphically and in tabular form and the physical aspects of the problem are discussed.

An analysis is performed to investigate the effect of MHD and thermal radiation on the two-dimensional steady flow of an incompressible, upper-convected Maxwells (UCM) fluid in presence of external magnetic field. The governing system of partial differential equations are transformed into a system of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations and is solved numerically by efficient shooting technique. Velocity and temperature fields have been computed and shown graphically for various values of physical parameters. For a Maxwell fluid, a thinning of the boundary layer and a drop in wall skin friction coefficient is predicted to occur for the higher elastic number which agrees with the results of Hayat et al. 2007 and Sadeghy et al. 2006. The objective of the present work is to investigate the effect of elastic parameterβ, magnetic parameterMn, Eckert numberEc, Radiation parameterN,and Prandtl numberPron flow and heat transfer charecteristics.

ABSTRACTThe present model is devoted for the steady stagnation point flow of a Williamson micropolar nanofluid with magneto-hydrodynamics and thermal radiation effects passed over a horizontal porous stretching sheet. The fluid is considered to be gray, absorbing-emitting but non-scattering medium. The Cogley-Vincent-Gilles formulation is adopted to simulate the radiation component of heat transfer. By applying similarity analysis, the governing partial differential equations are transformed into a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations and they are solved by using the bvp4c package in MATLAB. Numerical computations are carried out for various values of the physical parameters. The effects of momentum, microrotation, temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles together with the reduced skin friction coefficient, reduced Nusselt number and reduced Sherwood number of both active and passive controls on the wall mass flux are graphically presented. The present results are compared with previously obtained solutions and they are in good agreement. Results show that the skin friction is increasing functions of the Williamson parameter in both stretching and shrinking surfaces.

An analysis is carried out for the steady two-dimensional mixed convection flow adjacent to a stretching vertical sheet immersed in an incompressible electrically conducting micropolar fluid. The stretching velocity and the surface temperature are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the leading edge. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations, which is then solved numerically using a finite difference scheme known as the Keller box method. The effects of magnetic and material parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed. It is found that the magnetic field reduces both the skin friction coefficient and the heat transfer rate at the surface for any given K and ?. Conversely, both of them increase as the material parameter increases for fixed values of M and ?.

Abstract The focus of this paper is to study the effects of stagnation point flow and porous medium on ferrofluid flow over a variable thicked sheet. Heat transfer analysis is discussed by including thermal radiation. Suitable transformations are applied to convert partial differential equations to ordinary differential equations. Convergent results for series solutions are calculated. The impact of numerous parameters on velocity and temperature is displayed for series solutions. Graphical behavior for skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number is also analyzed. Numerical values of Nusselt number are tabulated depending upon various parameters

An analysis has been carried out to obtain the series solution of boundary layer flow of a micropolar fluid towards a shrinking sheet. The governing equations of micropolar fluid are simplified using suitable similarity transformations and then solved by homotopy analysis method (HAM). The convergence of the HAM solutions has been obtained by using homotopy-pade approximation. The effects of various parameters such as porosity parameter R, the ratio λ and the microinertia K on the velocity and microinertia profiles as well as local skin friction coefficient are presented graphically and in tabulated form.

This investigation describes the effects of heat transfer on magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) axisymmetric flow of a viscous fluid between two radially stretching sheets. Navier-Stokes equations are transformed into the ordinary differential equations by utilizing similarity variables. Solution computations are presented by using the homotopy analysis method. The convergence of obtained solutions is checked. Skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number are given in tabular form. The dimensionless velocities and temperature are also analyzed for the pertinent parameters entering into the problem.

AbstractAn investigation is carried out on mixed convection boundary layer flow of an incompressible and electrically conducting viscoelastic fluid over a linearly stretching surface in which the heat transfer includes the effects of viscous dissipation, elastic deformation, thermal radiation, and non-uniform heat source/sink for two general types of non-isothermal boundary conditions. The governing partial differential equations for the fluid flow and temperature are reduced to a nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations which are solved analytically using the homotopy analysis method (HAM). Graphical and numerical demonstrations of the convergence of the HAM solutions are provided, and the effects of various parameters on the skin friction coefficient and wall heat transfer are tabulated. In addition it is demonstrated that previously reported solutions of the thermal energy equation given in [1] do not converge at the boundary, and therefore, the boundary derivatives reported are not correct.

The present study accentuates the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) flow and heat transfer characteristics of a dual stratified micropolar fluid over a permeable stretching/shrinking sheet. Thermal and solutal buoyancy forces are also included to incorporate with the stratification effect. Similarity, transformation is applied to reduce the governing model (partial differential equations) into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) due to its complexity. Using bvp4c solver in the MATLAB software, numerical results for some limiting cases are in favorable agreement with the earlier published results. Both assisting and opposing buoyancy flows have dual similarity solutions within specific range of suction and stretching/shrinking parameters, whereas only a distinctive solution is observed for pure forced convective flow. The micropolar fluid shows a disparate pattern of flow, heat and mass transfer characteristics between stretching and shrinking cases. Unlike the shrinking flow, the surface velocity gradient, local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers for stretching flow intensify with the increment of the material parameter. The result from stability analysis reveals that the first solution is the real solution, whereas the second solution is virtual.

The effects of chemical reaction on heat and mass transfer flow of a micropolar fluid in a permeable channel with heat generation and thermal radiation is studied. The Rosseland approximations are used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. The model contains nonlinear coupled partial differential equations which have been transformed into ordinary differential equation by using the similarity variables. The relevant nonlinear equations have been solved by Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg fourth fifth-order method with shooting technique. The physical significance of interesting parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics as well as the local skin friction coefficient, wall couple stress, and the heat transfer rate are thoroughly examined.
