This study examined the mediating effects of future social expectations and interpersonal distrust on the relationship between individual relative deprivation and intention to rebel. Data were gathered from 807 people from multiple occupational backgrounds in a municipality in southwest China. Structural equation modelling showed that individual relative deprivation predicted intention to rebel directly and also that it predicted intention to rebel indirectly via negative future social expectations, interpersonal distrust, and a chain mediating effect of negative future social expectations and interpersonal distrust. These results highlight the importance of the associations between future social expectations and interpersonal distrust with intention to rebel in people who report relative deprivation. The findings also indicate that prevention and intervention programs related to relative deprivation and intention to rebel in China are worthy of further research.

The current study aims to explore how coach–athlete attachment affects the subjective well-being (SWB) of athletes and is primarily focused on the confirmation of the mediating roles of athletes’ perceived coach support and self-esteem in the relationship between them. A total of 179 Chinese athletes participated in this study, in which they responded to questions comprising a coach–athlete attachment scale, a perceived coach support measurement, the Rosenberg self-esteem scale, and SWB measures. The results suggest that both attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance significantly predict SWB in athletes. The effects of attachment anxiety on SWB are partially mediated by perceived coach support and self-esteem, and the effects of attachment avoidance on SWB are completely mediated by perceived coach support and self-esteem. Moreover, a chain mediating effect was found: coach–athlete attachment → perceived coach support → self-esteem → SWB. These findings extend the conclusions of prior reports and shed light on how coach–athlete attachment influences the athlete’s well-being.

Amid difficulty, the psychological capital of small tourism firm owners/managers has been given less attention. In the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, this research examined how psychological capital (self-efficacy, hope, optimism, and resilience) affects organizational resilience. By structural equation modeling (AMOS 21.0), 644 small tourism firm owners in Malaysia were randomly selected to investigate the relationship between psychological capital and organizational resilience, and the mediating effect of problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategies on this relationship. The findings of the study supported hypothesized relationships, as the psychological capital of small tourism firm owners in Malaysia significantly affects organizational resilience. Furthermore, the study discovered that problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategies have partial mediating effects on the association between psychological capital and organizational resilience. In the context of small tourism businesses sector, the findings of the study have implications, as the firms identify the recovery procedure in the COVID-19 pandemic.

ObjectivesHigh levels of organisational citizenship behaviour can enable nurses to cooperate with coworkers effectively to provide a high quality of nursing care during the outbreak of COVID-19. However, the association between autonomy, optimism, work engagement and organisational citizenship behaviour remains largely unexplored. This study aimed to test if the effect of autonomy on organisational citizenship behaviour through the mediating effects of optimism and work engagement.Study designThis was a cross-sectional study.SettingThe study was conducted in the Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital in China.ParticipantsIn total, 242 nurses who came from multiple areas of China to work at the Wuhan Jinyintan hospital during the COVID-19 epidemic participated in this study.MethodsA serial mediation model (model 6) of the PROCESS macro in SPSS was adopted to test the hypotheses, and a 95% CI for the indirect effects was constructed by using Bootstrapping.ResultsThe autonomy–organisational citizenship behaviour relationship was mediated by optimism and work engagement, respectively. In addition, optimism and work engagement mediated this relationship serially.ConclusionThe findings of this study may have implications for improving organisational citizenship behaviour. The effects of optimism and work engagement suggest a potential mechanism of action for the autonomy–organisational citizenship behaviour linkage. A multifaceted intervention targeting organisational citizenship behaviour through optimism and work engagement may help improve the quality of nursing care among nurses supporting patients with COVID-19.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between a secure attachment style and affective commitment (AC) through the mediating roles of affective and cognitive trust in a direct supervisor. Design/methodology/approach – The study was conducted using the questionnaire answers of 357 private sector employees in various occupations. The statistical analysis was based on structural equation modeling. A multiple mediation model enabled us to investigate the specific indirect effects of each mediator. Findings – Results based on a model comparison showed that the employees’ affective trust in their supervisor fully mediated the relationship between a secure attachment style and AC. However, cognitive trust had no significant mediating effect on relationships between a secure attachment style and AC. Practical implications – Trust in supervisors should be monitored and supported during developmental interventions. Understanding the power of affective and cognitive trust in predicting attitudes can help shape more effective interventions to influence positive work attitudes, including AC. Originality/value – The study sheds new light on the literature by linking individual attachment to organizational attachment as the mediating role of two forms of trust in a supervisor.

This article examines the relationship between task-communication and five collaborative processes by exploring the mediating effect of interpersonal trust in a virtual team's environment. A multiple mediation model was developed to examine this relationship where cognitive-based trust and affective-based trust are defined as mediation variables between task-communication and the five processes of collaboration. The main results of this study show a significant correlation with a large effect size between task communication, trust and collaboration. Also, interpersonal trust is playing an important role as a mediating element in the relationship between task communication and collaboration. This is where the emotional side of trust is no less important than the rational side, if not even more, in some collaborative processes.

Many critical decisions about an employee’s innovative performance are significantly based on the training results, as they are accountable for a variety of behavioral-related consequences. Training is among the most important human resource management strategies. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between employees’ perceptions of training and their innovative behavior in the Malaysian SME sector, as well as the mediating effect of affective and calculative commitment on this relationship. Structured questionnaires were used to collect the data. A total of 635 employees from 200 SMEs were selected through a stratified random sampling method, and structural equation modeling was applied to test the relationship. The findings of the study supported the hypothesized relationships, as training in Malaysia significantly engaged SME employees in innovative behavior. Furthermore, the study discovered that affective and calculative commitment have partial mediating effects on the association between training and innovative behavior. In the context of the SME sector, theoretical and managerial implications have been addressed. The originality of the study is that it examines the relationship between employees’ perceptions of training and their innovative behavior in SMEs. The relationship was measured using a multidimensional approach in the study. The research also adds to the body of knowledge by identifying the mediating effect of affective and calculative commitment.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of supply chain agility (SCA) on supply chain responsiveness (SCR), supply chain innovativeness (SCI) and export performance (EP) in the industrial sector in Jordan. It also explores the effects of SCR and SCI on EP. In addition, the study investigates the mediating effects of SCR and SCI on the relationship between SCA and EP. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire was prepared based on the extant literature. Data were gathered from 290 companies representing various types of manufacturing in Jordan. The appropriate tests were employed to ensure the validity of the study constructs and their reliability. Hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling. Findings SCA was found to directly and positively affect EP. It also positively affected SCR and SCI. In addition, SCR and SCI fully mediated the SCA–EP relationship. Originality/value This study is one of the first to investigate the effect of SCA on EP. Also, it is the first, to the best of the authors knowledge, to highlight the effect of SCA on SCI. Further, this is the first study to examine the mediating effect of SCI on the SCA–EP relationship. Similarly, the mediating effect of SCR on the SCA–EP relationship has rarely been investigated in the literature.

We investigated the mediating effect of burnout and depression on the relationship between adolescent academic stress and sleep quality. Participants comprised 757 adolescents aged 12–18 years, who completed self-report questionnaires assessing academic stress, sleep quality, school burnout, and depression. Results showed that adolescent academic stress was negatively correlated with sleep quality, and that depression and school burnout were also negatively associated with sleep quality. Results of a multiple mediation model showed that adolescent academic stress was not only directly correlated with sleep quality, but was also indirectly associated with sleep quality through the mediating effect of school burnout and depression, as well as through the sequential mediating effect from school burnout to depression. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effects of IEAP (Islamic ethical administrative practices) on the relationship between general cognitive ability (GCA) of Imamship and Masjid (mosque) Performance (MP) in Lagos State, Nigeria. This study utilized a quantitative approach. It employs a cross-sectional survey and administers 310 online questionnaires to the Chief Imams of central Masaajid (plural of a mosque/mosques) in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study used statistical techniques to analyze the collected data with partial least square structural - equation modelling - version 3 (PLS-SEM-V3). In the Lagos State of Nigeria, people have criticized the effectiveness of imams in theState. The critiques were raised based on the reason that the participation of Muslim Ummah in activities organized by imams is low. Ineffectiveness of imams this study aims to formulate the mediating effect of IEAP that will serve as the best administrative policy that can lead to a better management system in the Masjid to improve Masjid attendance and serve as an attraction for Muslims Ummah to come to the Masjid. The results of data on MP equally demonstrate that the Jama’ah would emulate their Chief Imams and consequently increase the performance of the Masaajid. This study recommends that with the presence of IEAP, the effectiveness of Chief Imam in promoting efficiency in MP by imbibing the knowledge/wisdom, truthfulness, responsibility/trust, and deliverance of Khutbah will increase. Finally, key benefits for practitioners and academia were discussed under the theoretical and practical contributions, while necessary suggestions for future study were recommended.
