Design, Modeling, and Control of a New Manipulating Climbing Robot Through Infrastructures Using Adaptive Force Control Method

SUMMARYIn this paper, design, modeling, and control of a grip-based climbing robot are performed, which consists of a triangular chassis and three actuating legs. This robot can climb through any trusses, pipeline, and scaffolds structures and can perform any inspectional and operational tasks in the high height which decreases the falling danger of operation and increases the safety of the workers. The proposed robot can be substituted for the workers to decrease the risk of death danger and increase the safety of the operation. Since these kinds of infrastructures are truss shaped, the traditional wheel-based climbing robots are not able to travel through these structures. Therefore, in this paper, a grip-based climbing robot is designed to accomplish the climbing process through the trusses and infrastructures in order to perform inspecting and manipulating tasks. Hence, a proper mechanism for the mentioned robot is designed and its related kinematic and kinetic models are developed. Robot modeling is investigated for two different modes including climbing and manipulating phases. Considering the redundancy of the proposed robot and the parallel mechanism employed in it, the active joints are selected in a proper way and its path planning is performed to accomplish the required missions. Concerning the climbing mode, the required computed torque method (CTM) is calculated by the inverse dynamics of the robot. However, for the manipulation mode, after path planning, two controlling strategies are employed, including feedback linearization (FBL) and adaptive force control, and their results are compared as well. It is shown that the latter case is preferable since the external forces implemented on the end effector tool is not exactly predetermined and thus, the controller should adapt the robot with the exerted force pattern of the manipulator. The modeling correctness is investigated by performing some analytic and comparative simulation scenarios in the MATLAB and comparing the results with the MSC-ADAMS ones, for both climbing and manipulating phases. The efficiency of the designed controller is also proved by implementing an unknown force pattern on the manipulator to check its efficiency toward estimating the mentioned implemented forces and compensating the errors. It is shown that the designed robot can successfully climb through a truss and perform its operating task by the aid of the employed adaptive controller in an accurate way.

This paper discusses the modeling and control of a robotic manipulator with a new deburring tool, which integrates two pneumatic actuators to take advantage of a double cutting action. A coordination control method was developed by decomposing the robotic deburring system into two subsystems: the arm and the deburring tool. A decentralized control approach was pursued in which suitable controllers were designed for the two subsystems in the coordination scheme. Robust feedback linearization was utilized to minimize the undesirable effect of external disturbances, such as static and Coulomb friction and nonlinear compliance of the pneumatic cylinder stemming from the compressibility of air. The developed coordination control method demonstrated its efficacy in terms of deburring accuracy and speed. Simulation results show that the developed robotic deburring system significantly improves the accuracy of the deburring operation.

 A quadrotor is a four-rotor aircraft capable of vertical take-off and landing, hovering, forward flight, and having great maneuverability. Its platform can be made in a small size make it convenient for indoor applications as well as for outdoor uses. In model there are four input forces that are essentially the thrust provided by each propeller attached to each motor with a fixed angle. The quadrotor is basically considered an unstable system because of the aerodynamic effects; consequently, a close-loop control system is required to achieve stability and autonomy. Such system must enable the quadrotor to reach the desired attitude as fast as possible without any steady state error. In this paper, an optimal controller is designed based on a Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) control method to obtain stability in flying the quadrotor. The dynamic model of this vehicle will be also explained by using Euler-Newton method. The mechanical design was performed along with the design of the controlling algorithm. Matlab Simulink was used to test and analyze the performance of the proposed control strategy. The experimental results on the quadrotor demonstrated the effectiveness of the methodology used.

AbstractAiming at the influence of coupling coefficient variation on the output voltage of a high-power LCC-S topology inductively coupled power transfer (ICPT) system, a synchronous three-phase triple-parallel Buck converter is used as the voltage adjustment unit. The control method for the three-phase current sharing of synchronous three-phase triple-parallel Buck converter and the constant voltage output ICPT system under the coupling coefficient variation is studied. Firstly, the hybrid model consisting of the circuit averaging model of the three-phase triple-parallel Buck converter and the generalized state-space average model for the LCC-S type ICPT system is established. Then, the control methods for three-phase current sharing of the synchronous three-phase triple-parallel Buck converter and constant voltage output of ICPT system are studied to achieve the multi-objective integrated control of the system. Finally, a 3.3 kW wireless charging system platform is built, the experimental results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed modeling and control method, and demonstrated the stability of the ICPT system.

This paper concerns the modeling and control of a mobile manipulator which consists of a robotic arm mounted upon a mobile platform. The equations of motion are derived using the Lagrange-d'Alembert formulation for the nonholonomic model of the mobile manipulator. The dynamic model which considers slip of the platform's tires is developed using the Newton-Euler method and incorporates Dugoff's tire friction model. Then, the tracking problem is investigated by using a well known nonlinear control method for the nonholonomic model. The adverse effect of the wheel slip on the tracking of commanded motion is discussed in the simulation. For the dynamic model, a variable structure control approach is employed to minimize the harmful effect of the wheel slip on the tracking performance. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.

This paper presents a new modeling method and a control system design procedure for a flexible rotor with many elastic modes using active magnetic bearings. The purpose of our research is to let the rotor rotate passing over the 1st and the 2nd critical speeds caused by flexible modes. To achieve this, it is necessary to control motion and vibration of the flexible rotor simultaneously. The new modeling method named as Extended Reduced Order Physical Model is presented to express its motion and vibration uniformly. By using transfer function of flexible rotor-Active Magnetic Bearings system, we designed a Local Jerk Feedback Control system and conducted stability discrimination with root locus. In order to evaluate this modeling and control method, levitation experimentation is conducted.
