In Sri Lanka elephants are endangered and ivory carving, as an art, is dead. Sri Lanka was once famous for the number and quality of its elephants, whose tusks were carved and exported since ancient times. Although Sri Lanka became, successively, a pivotal outpost for the Portuguese, Dutch and English, details about the Ceylonese ivory trade appear in trade documents only rarely. And yet, if information is not to be found there, does that mean ivory trade did not occur? Trade documents, after all, do not tell the whole story. Smugglers, illegal traders, big game hunters and plantation owners all played a part in the disappearance of elephants and its corollary, the ivory trade. When archival evidence is viewed in combination with physical evidence and the anecdotes of visitors and residents, it becomes evident that ivory remained an integral part of trade and crafts in Ceylon well into the last century.

The natural beauty of Lake Toba has become popular tourism area, both on national and international scales. BPS data show before the pre-crisis the number of tourists reached about average 500 thousand per year, after the crisis the number of visits never 100 thousand per year. The tourism objects are not managed and the variety of tourism products are not developed, make tourists less interested. Bad marketing factors were believed the cause of problems of sales travel services. The research was conducted using by survey with correlation approach. The questionnaire asked to measure tourists response to marketing mix and survey research responses to measure the effect of marketing mix against interest visiting to Lake Toba. The technique used to obtain data marketing mix and interests through questionnaires. Analysis to measure the effect using the Pearson product moment correlation. Interest in visiting using Likert scale options. Questionnaire made by own and performed by field trials with the respondents as many as 15 people. The test result has 1 (one) invalid point on the promotion of indicators with score of 0.213 and one (1) item of physical evidence with score of 0.302. Conditions of acceptance of the validity if rhit > rtab then 0.213 < 0.553 and 0.302 < 0.553 and 15 variable instruments of interest visiting in Lake Toba area, everything is valid, because the score results with r above 0.553. Scale reliability coefficient calculated for the marketing mix of 0.979, and interest amounting to 0.905. There are influences of marketing mix 7P against of interest visiting to Lake Toba, either partially or simultaneously. The size effect the indicators of the marketing mix to interest visiting Lake Toba, namely: the product of 64.5%, 62.4% of the price, the place of (59.4%), physical evidence of 57.2%, promotion by 50.7%, the person or the quality of human resources by 12% and the smallest and most influential is the process by 9.4%. Great influence of the marketing mix (P7) all the elements together or simultaneous to the interest visiting Lake Toba as much 68.8%. Abstract Research into orthography in the history of English is not a simple venture. The history of English spelling is primarily based on printed texts, which fail to capture the range of variation inherent in the language; many manuscript phenomena are simply not found in printed texts. Manuscript-based corpora would be the ideal research data, but as this is resource-intensive, linguists use editions that have been produced by non-linguists. Many editions claim to retain original spellings, but in practice text is always normalized at the graph level and possibly more so. This does not preclude using such a corpus for orthographical research, but there has been no systematic way to determine the philological reliability of an edited text. In this paper we present a typological methodology we are developing for the evaluation of orthographical quality of edition-based corpora, with the aim of making the best use of bad data in the context of editions and manuscript practices. As a case study, we apply this methodology to the Early Modern and Late Modern English sections of the Corpus of Early English Correspondence.

Traditional Knowledge is an experiential knowledge built by people within a long duration and this knowledge has been decaying with time. Traditional soil taxonomies or classifications are most important in the process of identifying soil degradation. Therefore, this study was focused to ascertain the traditional knowledge used in identification of soil erosion and classification of soil in the Knuckles range of Sri Lanka. Seven Grama Niladhrari Divisions out of 56 laid in Knuckles range were selected as the study area. Out of 346 families living in the study area, 120 families were selected by employing simple random sampling method. Data was collected through questionnaires, interviews, observations and transect walks while international and local soil classification methods were applied for scientific validation. In this study four (04) traditional methods used to classify the soil was identified. Based on 6 different indigenous criteria, three (03) main soil types and 15 sub soil types were identified. Further, types of components existing in each indigenous soil type were identified using a soil index which comprises of 16 type of materials while nine (09) soil samples and nine (09) soil profiles were scientifically validated through international and local soil classification. The traditional soil taxonomy found in this research can be applied for identifying and minimizing the degradation of soil and securing the quality of the environment. Comparative studies between the scientific and traditional science like this would expose and disseminate more and more possibilities on future studies.

Purpose Misophonia is a sound tolerance disorder condition in certain sounds that trigger intense emotional or physiological responses. While some persons may experience misophonia, a few patients suffer from misophonia. However, there is a dearth of literature on audiological assessment and management of persons with misophonia. The purpose of this report is to discuss the assessment of misophonia and highlight the management option that helped a patient with misophonia. Method A case study of a 26-year-old woman with the complaint of decreased tolerance to specific sounds affecting quality of life is reported. Audiological assessment differentiated misophonia from hyperacusis. Management included retraining counseling as well as desensitization and habituation therapy based on the principles described by P. J. Jastreboff and Jastreboff (2014). A misophonia questionnaire was administered at regular intervals to monitor the effectiveness of therapy. Results A detailed case history and audiological evaluations including pure-tone audiogram and Johnson Hyperacusis Index revealed the presence of misophonia. The patient benefitted from intervention, and the scores of the misophonia questionnaire indicated a decrease in the severity of the problem. Conclusions It is important to differentially diagnose misophonia and hyperacusis in persons with sound tolerance disorders. Retraining counseling as well as desensitization and habituation therapy can help patients who suffer from misophonia.
