Two primitive trematopid amphibians (Temnospondyli, Dissorophoidea) from the Upper Carboniferous of the Czech Republic

ABSTRACTSpecimens of trematopid amphibians from the Asturian (Upper Carboniferous) of Nýřany, Czech Republic, are redescribed as two taxa, namely Mordex calliprepes Steen and Mattauschia (gen. nov) laticeps Fritsch. Mordex calliprepes is represented by a single post-metamorphic specimen and has the diagnostic trematopid characters of the nasal region. Mattauschia laticeps is represented by one adult partial skull and mandible plus some fragments and two small post-metamorphic specimens including the species name-bearer. It has the trematopid-type modified lacrimal and a large but oval naris and appears to be the most primitive trematopid yet described. The stratigraphically sequential large trematopids Mattauschia, Fedexia, Ecolsonia and Acheloma show progressive acquisition of the derived features that characterise the terminal form Acheloma.Mordex has a combination of primitive and derived characters and its position within the family is less clear. The many ‘branchiosaurs' in the Nýřany assemblage include specimens that could be larvae of both Mordex and Mattauschia but certain attribution is not possible and they are assigned to Olsoniformes incertae sedis. Mordex and Mattauschia appear to be terrestrial exotic elements in the Nýřany tetrapod assemblage, but with possible larvae in the lake assemblage. Representatives of at least four Palaeozoic dissorophoid families were present in late Middle Pennsylvanian/Asturian strata implying diversification of the Dissorophoidea prior to this time.

Abstract Althogether 17 species of the family Anthomyiidae (Diptera) are recorded from the Czech Republic (or Moravia and Bohemia) (16 species) and Slovakia (1 species) for the first time. The most interesting findings are Delia dovreensis Ringdahl 1954 and northamerican species Pegomyia bifurcata Griffiths 1983.

ABSTRACTThe cranial anatomy of the primitive Carboniferous temnospondyl Cochleosaurus bohemicus is described herein from several large, presumably adult, skulls. This new morphological data modifies earlier descriptions by Frič (=Fritsch in post-1876 publications), Romer and Steen, which were based almost entirely on small, subadult Cochleosaurus bohemicus specimens. Recognition of a new autapomorphy for Cochleosaurus bohemicus, (pitting on the ventral surface of the postorbitals) which is independent of ontogenetic change, has facilitated more accurate intra-specific comparisons between cochleosaurids. Cladistic analysis reveals a clear dichotomy separating the Edopoidea from the more derived clade of the remaining temnospondyls, which includes Balanerpeton and Dendrerpeton. The Edopoidea are only weakly supported as a superfamily in this analysis. The Cochleosauridae are a monophyletic family comprising the genera Procochleosaurus, Adamanterpeton, Cochleosaurus and Chenoprosopus.

This study contributes to the knowledge of central European clitellates by creating a check-list of Oligochaeta (sensu oligochaetous Clitellata; Erséus 2005) of the Czech Republic, exclusive of taxa in the family Enchytraeidae. In total, 95 aquatic oligochaete species representing 43 genera are reported for the Czech Republic. Rare species are highlighted and associated with the categories for threatened species as outlined by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. The first records of Trichodrilus strandi Hrabě, 1936, Pristina jenkinae (Stephenson, 1931), Pristina osborni (Walton, 1906), Rhyacodrilus subterraneus Hrabě, 1963, Aulodrilus limnobius Bretscher, 1899, and Aulodrilus pigueti Kowalewski, 1914 in the Czech Republic are presented. Their ecology, morphology, and distribution are discussed.

Family businesses are the foundation of any economy. They have been heavily influencing our society for many centuries. The level of involvement among family members is vital to flourish a family business. Therefore, research is conducted to assess the dependencies of six aspects of the selected family businesses in the Czech Republic. Several findings from the family survey are found in the correlation analysis: there is the highest indirect dependence between the number of directors and the number of family members actively involved in a family business, and some factors do not show dependence. This is evidenced by the relationships between the number of members of the board of directors or managing directors and the number of family members who are not interested in family business. Correlation analysis methods are used on top of the methods of analysis, synthesis and comparison.

AbstractIn this chapter, authors give a picture of families in individual countries, which participated in the survey, so from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Latvia. They pay attention mainly to the family changes after the year 1990. There is mainly demographic situation. Furthermore, there are features which present contemporary family such as an increase of democratization in family coexistence in connection with the shifts of roles and disintegration in a family life linked with overall individualism manifested by automation, where one creates his/her own way of life. The contemporary family is more likely affected in all countries by progressive social differentiation; in a different level of unemployment, certain isolation and changes are always seen in intergeneration relationships. The authors also pay attention to family social policy and housing situation when starting a family.

Distribution of stoneflies of the family Taeniopterygidae (Plecoptera) in the Czech Republic: earlier data, new records and recent distributional changes Altogether 14 species of Taeniopterygidae were previously mentioned from the Czech Republic; 11 species were listed in check-list of Plecoptera of Czechoslovakia, three species were recorded recently. Main aims of this study were to summarize all known distributional data, reexamine available material, classify species to the categories of threat based on new distributional data, and discuss all species ever supposed to occur in the Czech Republic. In total eight species were found to occur in the Czech Republic with certainty. Two species, Brachyptera seticornis and B. risi, are common in the Czech Republic, the latter exhibiting some expansion in Bohemia at present. Critically endangered Brachyptera braueri missing in the past 40 years has been recently found in several rivers showing some recovery of the original area. Endangered Taeniopteryx nebulosa exhibited considerable decline in lowland and colline streams. New records are presented for near threatened montane species B. starmachi, endangered B. monilicornis, newly classified endangered T. auberti, and vulnerable Taeniopteryx hubaulti. No reliable data have been found as to distribution of Brachyptera trifasciata, Taeniopteryx kuehtreiberi, T. araneoides, and Oemopteryx loewii, respective earlier records were based on misidentification. The occurrence of Rhabdiopteryx acuminata and R. neglecta is doubtful at this moment, because it was based on the problematic determination of larval material. These species cannot be formally considered a part of the Czech fauna due to lack of voucher material. Possible occurrence of other Rhabdiopteryx species showing the area adjacent to the Czech Republic is discussed.

Porcine sapoviruses, members of the family Caliciviridae, have been considered as an aetiological agent of gastroenteritis in pigs. In this study, we analysed 251 faecal samples obtained from 3 to 90 day-old diarrhoeic pigs in the Czech Republic between January 2005 and June 2010 and tested them by negative staining electron microscopy for the presence of sapoviruses. Only one sample showed the presence of viral particles with characteristic sapovirus morphology. The presence of sapovirus (SaV) was confirmed by an RT-PCR assay with primers specific for the sapoviral RNA polymerase and capsid genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on a partial sequence of the RNA polymerase gene placed the new Czech isolate into the GVII genogroup of porcine sapoviruses; however, analysis of a portion of the capsid gene sequence classified the isolate as GIII of the genus Sapovirus. These contradictory findings indicate that recombinant porcine sapovirus was identified. According to our knowledge this is the first description of porcine sapovirus in domestic pigs in the Czech Republic

In the current construction industry, great importance is given to the usage of thermally insulating building materials. One of the many such materials can be a cement foam or foam concrete, a mixture of cement mortar and technical foam. This material can be, due to its consistency right after mixing, applied to uneven horizontal surfaces where usage of conventional thermal board insulation materials would be complicated. This paper discusses the methodology of testing of the physical and mechanical properties of foaming additives such as strength, density, foaming number and half-separability of technical foams. Then this methodology was subsequently verified on the five commonly used foaming additives in the Czech Republic.
