Eco-friendly cushioning materials were made with thermomechanical pulps (TMPs) from waste woods collected from local mountains in Korea, using a suction-forming method without physical pressing. The TMP cushions had superior shock-absorbing performance, with lower elastic moduli than expanded polystyrene (EPS) or molded pulp. Even though the TMP cushions made using various suction times had many voids in their inner fiber structure, their apparent densities were a little higher than that of EPS and much lower than that of molded pulp. The addition of cationic starch contributed to an increase in the elastic modulus of the TMP cushions without increasing the apparent density, an effect which was different from that of surface sizing with starch. In the impact test, the TMP cushions showed a more ductile pattern than the brittle EPS. The porosity of the TMP cushion was a little less than that of EPS and much greater than that of molded pulp. The porous structure of the TMP cushions contributed to their excellent thermal insulating capacity, which was equivalent to that of EPS. In summary, the TMP packing cushions showed great potential for surviving external impacts during product distribution.

<p>The torquoselectivity, the inward or outward ring opening of 3-substituted cyclobutenes, is conventionally guided by the donor and/or acceptor ability of the substituent (S). It is typically predicted by estimating the respective ring opening transition state (TS) barriers. While there is no known dissent in regard to the outward rotation of electron-rich substituents from the approaches of TS calculations, the inward rotation was predicted for some electron-accepting substituents and outward for others. To address this divergence in predicting the torquoselectivity, we have used reliable orbital descriptors through natural bond orbital theoretical calculations and demonstrated that (a) interactions <i>n</i><i><sub>S</sub></i>→s*<sub>C3C4</sub> for a lone pair containing substituent, s<sub>S</sub>→s*<sub>C3C4</sub> for a s-donor substituent, s<sub>C3C4</sub>→p*<sub>S</sub> for a resonance-accepting substituent and s<sub>C3C4</sub>→s*<sub>S</sub> for a s-acceptor substituent constitute the true electronic controls of torquoselectivity, and (b) reversibility of the ring opening event is an additional important contributor to the observed product distribution.</p>

Introduction. There has been limited discussion on Open Monograph Press (OMP) although its  potential is recognized to support academic publications in Indonesia. This is due to the lack of access to information and dissemination of OMP by academic publishers that have implemented OMP in their publication process. Data Collection Method. This paper used a qualitative approach by starting the elaboration publication process in Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI) Press. This paper examined how OMP-based online publishing system is able to accommodate book publishing process in LIPI Press. Primary data in this study was collected through records of the user interface of the online page of LIPI Press which uses OMP. Data Analysis. The data was analyzed by using  a descriptive-analytic approach. Results and Discussions. OMP is useful not only to accommodate all roles and processes of scientific publication but also to accommodate the publisher's need for a catalog website. OMP metadata can be indexed by Google Scholar and can be a helpful tool for product distribution. Conclusion. OMP is suggested to become a standard in publication process.

Previous reports on the thermal or CO2-laser induced decomposition of trichloroethylene have identified only one condensible product, hexachlorobenzene (in addition to HCl and mono- and dichloroacetylene). We have found that trichloroethylene vapor exposed to cw irradiation on the P(24) line of the (001 - 100) band of the CO2 laser at incident power levels from 8 - 17 W produces numerous products, of which the 13 major ones have been identified using IR, GC/MS, GC/FTIR, and NMR methods. All of these products have 4, 6, or 8 carbons, are highly unsaturated, and are completely chlorinated or contain a single hydrogen. C4HCl5 and C6Cl6 isomers (three of each) account for S 55% to 85% of total products (based on peak areas in the total ion chromatograms in GC/MS runs), depending on reaction conditions. In addition to characterizing the products, we discuss the dependence of the product distribution on laser power, irradiation time, and cell geometry, and we outline a possible mechanism.

The zirconia supported CoMo catalysts and the commercial sample CoMo/Al2O3 were characterized by XPS measurements and by testing of activity in the HDS of thiophene at 280 °C and 1 MPa of total pressure. The XPS measurements revealed the better reducibility of molybdenum, higher sulphidability of cobalt and the absence of surface sulphur oxidation in the presence of zirconia support. The surface atomic concentration ratios S/Mo were 1.2 and 2.2 for zirconia and alumina supported catalysts, respectively. The activity of the zirconia supported CoMo catalyst normalized to the overal amounts of active metals was lower than that of the commercial CoMo/Al2O3 catalyst.

Peroxisomal oxidation yields metabolites that are more efficiently utilized by mitochondria. This is of potential clinical importance because reduced fatty acid oxidation is suspected to promote excess lipid accumulation in obesity-associated insulin resistance. Our purpose was to assess peroxisomal contributions to mitochondrial oxidation in mixed gastrocnemius (MG), liver, and left ventricle (LV) homogenates from lean and fatty ( fa/fa) Zucker rats. Results indicate that complete mitochondrial oxidation (CO2production) using various lipid substrates was increased approximately twofold in MG, unaltered in LV, and diminished ∼50% in liver of fa/fa rats. In isolated mitochondria, malonyl-CoA inhibited CO2production from palmitate 78%, whereas adding isolated peroxisomes reduced inhibition to 21%. These data demonstrate that peroxisomal products may enter mitochondria independently of CPT I, thus providing a route to maintain lipid disposal under conditions where malonyl-CoA levels are elevated, such as in insulin-resistant tissues. Peroxisomal metabolism of lignoceric acid in fa/fa rats was elevated in both liver and MG (LV unaltered), but peroxisomal product distribution varied. A threefold elevation in incomplete oxidation was solely responsible for increased hepatic peroxisomal oxidation (CO2unaltered). Alternatively, only CO2was detected in MG, indicating that peroxisomal products were exclusively partitioned to mitochondria for complete lipid disposal. These data suggest tissue-specific destinations for peroxisome-derived products and emphasize a potential role for peroxisomes in skeletal muscle lipid metabolism in the obese, insulin-resistant state.
