The purpose of this chapter was to present current literature focused on integrating science and literacy and describe the teaching of a science unit of study that incorporated fanfiction literature in a fourth-grade classroom. Ms. Bardon's instructional techniques were focused on integrating science learning with reading and writing based within a fictional text read together as a classroom community throughout the unit of science study. The unit of study was presented alongside background literature to illustrate how such teaching is indicative of a larger movement in the educational field toward science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-based pedagogy and curriculum. The account of teaching was presented according to the close reading of the fictional text, the hands-on science activities, and the culminating student writing of a fanfiction narrative that constituted the assessment of science learning.

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted various fields, especially education, namely the implementation of distance learning. One of the activities carried out by teachers is the implementation of independent practicum by students so that teaching and learning activities continue to run even though the students are at home. This study aims to analyze the motion of jumping cats using a tracker application that can be used as a practicum activity independently in science subjects of motion material in grade VII by using cats that are in the environment of learners as the subject of the study. This research method uses a hands-on experimental approach by taking videos of jumping cats' motion and processing them with a tracker app. The results of data processing with the help of tracker application are processed by using Microsoft Excel program so that obtained KD, KB, TB, K and E relationship graphs cat jump has a constant or stable speed indicated by linearity graphs. In addition, data processing using a tracker application is more accurate and consistent compared to the acceleration value by manually calculating so that it can be concluded the use of application-assisted jumping cat video analysis is worth using in science learning.

Studies have shown gardening to have the potential to influence students in several positive ways. The hands-on and informal learning that occurs in these outdoor areas can be incorporated into all areas of the curriculum, fostering environmental awareness and increased interest in science. Junior Master Gardener (JMG) was chosen to be evaluated in 14 Indiana third grade classrooms as little formal classroom usage data exists for the program. It was hypothesized that the use of the program could help improve agriculture awareness and knowledge in youth. Quantitative and qualitative instruments and observations were utilized in a effort to evaluate knowledge gain and change of attitude towards the topics covered by the JMG curriculum; science, horticulture, and the environment. Student pre- and posttest results indicated overall significant gains in knowledge and attitudes. Performance was not attributed to student age, gender, race, or location of the school, although those schools with a garden achieved more positive gains in attitude and specific performance varied according to classroom. Qualitative data also indicated that the students enjoyed the program, shared what they learned with others, and wanted to participate in more JMG and gardening type activities. Teachers indicated that they were satisfied with the program in their classrooms and planned to reuse their JMG materials for future classes.

The study aim to describe STEM-Robotic implementation as an intra-curricular in regular curriculum. STEM-Robotics is usually implemented as an extracurricular program in many schools. In the 2019/2020 school year, Edu Global Senior High School Bandung implemented STEM-Robotics as an intra-curricular for the ten-grade science program. STEM-Robotic implementation as an intra-curricular based on the challenges of 21st-century learning that lead to innovative creative learning and skills development. The method in this study is descriptive qualitative research method through the observations, questionnaires, and interview with teacher teams. The results of this study show that, 1) The implementation of STEM-Robotic as an intra-curricular has a curriculum that focuses about robots NXT and Arduino to provide the basics of engineering and technological skills in robotics and coding, while the concepts of science and mathematics have not been directly linked in STEM-Robotic, 2) The implementation of STEM-Robotic dominated by hands-on and mind-on activities in the learning process and its assessment. 3) Generally, students responded positively to the implementation of STEM-Robotics as an intra-curricular that makes learning more interesting, useful, fun, challenging, and develop engineering and technology skills. This result indicates that STEM-Robotic is an alternative subject or learning strategy in regular curriculum to accommodate science learning with educational robotics.

STEM is an integral component to today’s library programming, engaging children in active, hands-on experiences and building interest in these critical fields. There is a documented dearth of representation across women and minorities in STEM fields, and programming in public libraries can help to close this gap by fostering an early interest in science, technology, engineering, and math in all children, regardless of their background or access to STEM curriculum in school.
