Zn2SiO4:Eu3+, Dy3+ phosphors have been prepared through the sol-gel process. X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric and ddifferential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), FT-IR spectra and photoluminescence spectra were used to characterize the resulting phosphors. The results of XRD indicated that the phosphors crystallized completely at 1000oC. In Zn2SiO4:Eu3+,Dy3+ phosphors, the Eu3+ and Dy3+ show their characteristic red(613nm, 5D0-7F2), blue (481nm, 4F9/2–6H15/2) and yellow (577nm, 4F9/2–6H13/2) emissions.

rac-Bis{μ-trans-2,2′-[pentane-1,5-diylbis(azanediyl)]ditroponato}dipalladium(II), [Pd2(C19H20N2O2)2], has been synthesized and fully characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction,1H NMR, FT–IR and mass spectroscopy. Thetranscoordination, vaulted structure andanticonformation have been unequivocally established from the X-ray diffraction studies. This is the first example of a bis(aminotroponato)palladium complex. In the crystalline state, the molecule has twofold symmetry and each molecular unit undergoes intermolecular offset π-stacking of the tropone rings to afford heterochiral interpenetrating dimers that are aligned in a lamellar manner with a herringbone packing motif.

Based on X-ray diffraction results, the gallery height of modified Mg3Al-LDH was expanded to 9.6Å from the original 4.8Å, indicating that the H3PW12O40 was indeed inserted into the hydroxide layers. Moreover, the results of FT-IR spectra proved the Keggin structure of PW11O397- species. The resulting material showed a high activity of degradation of methyl orange in the presence of H2O2 and UV light irradiation.

The effect of Metakaolinization on the thermal and physicochemical properties of Badau Belitung kaolin is presented. Calcination of Badau Belitung kaolin indicated that kaolin was transformed to metakaolin at temperature above 500°C. The metakaolin was characterized using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). The XRD diffraction pattern of the metakaolin was highly amorphous as a result of calcination effect on the raw kaolin. The FTIR spectra of the metakaolin produced showed that the material was thermally stable at temperature range of 500–700°C, whereas the specific surface area values of the raw kaolin and the metakaolin formed were increased with increasing calcination temperature from 500°C to 700°C.

The aim of this study was the preparation of polyethylene oxide (PEO)/clay nanocomposites using organoclay produced via micellar adsorption of cethyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and their characterisation by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra, and the investigation of certain mechanical properties of the composites. The results show that the basal distance between the layers increased with the increasing CTAB/clay ratio as parallel with the zeta potential values of particles. By considering the aggregation number of CTAB micelles and interlayer distances of organo-clay, it could be suggested that the predominant micelle geometry at lower CTAB/clay ratios is an ellipsoidal oblate, whereas, at higher CTAB/clay ratios, sphere-ellipsoid transition occurs. The increasing tendency of the exfoliation degree with an increase in clay content may be attributed to easier diffusion of PEO chains to interlayer regions. FT-IR spectra show that the intensity of Si-O stretching vibrations of the organoclays (1050 cm−1) increased, especially in the ratios of 1.0 g/g clay and 1.5 g/g clay with the increasing CTAB content. It was observed that the mechanical properties of the composites are dependent on both the CTAB/clay ratios and clay content of the composites.
