Bead-structured titanium dioxide microspheres were successfully prepared by a facile one-step solvothermal method using diblock copolymers poly(ethylene oxide)-block-polystyene (PEO-b-PS) as the structure-directing agent. The products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetic analysis and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) technique. The XRD patterns show that the products synthesized with low content of HCl are anatase titanium dioxide and the products synthesized with low content of HCl are rulite titanium dioxide.

Carbon dots (CDs) were obtained from medicinal turmeric leaves (Curcuma longa) by a facile one-step hydrothermal method and evaluated for their bactericidal activities against two gram-negative; Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and two gram-positive counterparts; Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis. The CDs exhibited spherical shapes with a mean size of 2.6 nm. The fluorescence spectra of CDs revealed intense fluorescence at λex/em = 362/429 nm with a bright blue color in an aqueous solution. The CDs showed strong photostability under various environmental conditions (pH, salt, and UV-radiation). The complete bactericidal potency of CDs was 0.25 mg/mL for E.coli and S. aureus after 8 h of exposure, while for K. pneumoniae, and S. epidermidis, the CDs at 0.5 mg/mL good antibacterial effect within 8 h and complete eradication after 24 h of exposure is observed. The release of reactive oxygen species played a crucial role in the death of the bacterial cell. The present study provides a strategy for the preparation of CDs from a medicinal plant and their potential antibacterial activities against four common contagious pathogens.

Fe3O4 hollow microspheres with good dispersibility and high saturation magnetization were synthesized through a facile one-step solvothermal method. The formation mechanism of the hollow structure was studied by taking time-dependent experiments. Porous [Formula: see text]-FeOOH and [Formula: see text]-Fe2O3 nanosheets were firstly fabricated. Fe3O4 solid spheres aggregated by small particles were obtained from the transition of [Formula: see text]-FeOOH and [Formula: see text]-Fe2O3. Finally, the solid sphere is transferred to hollow sphere through Ostwald ripening. The maximum saturation magnetization of the hollow spheres is [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]emu/g, which is higher than some results reported in references. The Fe3O4 hollow spheres show potential applications in microwave absorption and photocatalysis.

AbstractPolycrystalline tungsten-doped titanium dioxide nanopowders within a dopant concentration of 0-1 at.% were prepared by a one-step flame spray synthesis (FSS). Mixtures of titanium tetra-isopropoxide dissolved in ethanol and tungsten hexacarbonyl solubilized in tetrahydrofuran were used as precursors. The specific surface area (SSA) of the powders was between 40 and 130 m
