Large size diffusion limited aggregates (DLA) in ion conducting polymeric system, PEO:NH 4 I (+ Al 2 O 3), have been obtained. The species responsible for the formation of the DLA have been identified as [Formula: see text] by fluorescence studies. It is also shown that if I 2 gets formed (instead of [Formula: see text] aggregates) at selected regions, then "strain field" is established which forbids further approach of ionic random walkers and hence no fractals grow around these regions.

Segmented poly(urethaneureas) (SPUUs) modified with low glass transition temperature chemically inert liquids are of interest due to their controllable properties and potential applications under various environmental conditions. Investigation into the influence of plasticizers on the properties of SPUUs based on oligotetramethyleneoxide diol (polytetramethyleneoxide), oligopropyleneoxide diol (polypropyleneoxide), 2,4-toluenediisocyanate, Ethacure-300, and methylene-bis- o-chloroaniline was conducted. Partial crystallization of polytetramethyleneoxide segments was identified during cooling of some SPUU samples plasticized by di-(2-ethylhexyl)sebacate (DEHS) and tributyl phosphate. Polypropyleneoxide segments did not crystallize under the same conditions. A low crystallization temperature for the amorphous component of the polymer matrix in SPUU (−100°C to 103°C) was attained at a molecular mass ( Mn) of soft segments equal to 2000 g mol−1 and a DEHS concentration equal to 40–45%. A relationship between the mechanical properties of plasticized SPUU, microphase segregation, and dilution of the polymer matrix was found. For the first time, the effect of dilution with plasticizer on the strength of elastomers was considered. The plasticization effect on the mechanical properties of SPUU was investigated in the temperature diapason from 50°C to −70°C. The results of these investigations can be used in various technologies including the design of SPUUs with high elastic properties at temperatures as low as −70°C, typical of extreme conditions of the Arctic climate.

poly ether-block-amide (PEBAX)-2533/metal salt/Al salt membranes were prepared for mixed olefin/paraffin separation. PEBAX-2533 with 80% ether group and 20% amide group was suggested as the polymer matrix for comparison of separation performance according to the functional group ratio in copolymer PEBAX. In addition, Al salts were used to stabilize metal ions for a long time as additives. High permeance was expected with the proportion of high ether groups, since these functional groups provided relatively permeable regions. As a result, the PEBAX-2533 composite membrane showed a selectivity of 5 (propylene/propane) with 10 GPU. However, the permeance of membrane was not unexpectedly improved and the selectivity was reduced. The result was analyzed by using SEM, RAMAN and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), including Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). The reduction in separation performance was determined by using FT-IR. Based on these results, in order to stabilize the metal ions interacting with the polymer through Al(NO3)3, it was concluded that a specific ratio of the amide group was needed in PEBAX as a polymer matrix.

By using various techniques (pH-potentiometry, UV-Visible spectrophotometry, 1H and 17O-NMR, EPR, ESI-MS), first time in the literature, solution equilibrium study has been performed on complexes of dipeptide and tripeptide hydroxamic acids—AlaAlaNHOH, AlaAlaN(Me)OH, AlaGlyGlyNHOH, and AlaGlyGlyN(Me)OH—with 4d metals: the essential Mo(VI) and two half-sandwich type cations, [(η6-p-cym)Ru(H2O)3]2+ as well as [(η5-Cp*)Rh(H2O)3]2+, the latter two having potential importance in cancer therapy. The tripeptide derivatives have also been studied with some biologically important 3d metals, such as Fe(III), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II), in order to compare these new results with the corresponding previously obtained ones on dipeptide hydroxamic acids. Based on the outcomes, the effects of the type of metal ions, the coordination number, the number and types of donor atoms, and their relative positions to each other on the complexation have been evaluated in the present work. We hope that these collected results might be used when a new peptide-based hydroxamic acid molecule is planned with some purpose, e.g. to develop a potential metalloenzyme inhibitor.
