AbstractAlthough thienopyridines attract attention because of their biological activities, they have not been used as ligands in coordination compounds. Thieno[2,3-b]pyridine was prepared by known procedures; by reduction of 2-nitrothiophene, and reaction of the resulting 2-thienyl ammonium salt with malondialdehyde tetramethylacetal in the presence of zinc chloride. The same procedure was used for the preparation of a new derivative, 2-methylthieno[2,3-b]pyridine, starting from 2-methyl-5-nitrothiophene. The thienopyridines were used in the synthesis of coordination compounds. Chlorides, isothiocyanates, acetates, and chloroacetates of copper(II), nickel(II), or cobalt(II) were used as starting salts. The prepared complexes were characterized by elemental analysis and FT IR. Structures of the four complexes were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

AbstractA dinuclear and a tetranuclear complex of lead(II) with the pincer-type ligand 4′-(4-chlorophenyl)-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine (Cl-Ph-tpy), [Pb2(Cl-Ph-tpy)2(μ-I)2I2] (1) and [Pb4(Cl-Ph-tpy)4(μ-Br)4(μ-OH2)Br4]·2CH3OH (2), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy, and by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the binuclear structure of 1, the Pb atom has a hemidirected PbN3I3 environment with a Pb(μ-I)2Pb central unit. In the tetranuclear structure of 2, two crystallographically independent Pb(II) centres having hemidirected PbN3Br3 and PbN3OBr2 environments are connected to Pb(μ-Br)Pb(μ-Br)2(μ-OH2)Pb(μ-Br)Pb chains. The supramolecular features in 1 and 2 are supported through weak but directional C–H···Cl, C–H···I and C–H···Br, C–H···O, O–H···Br, and O···Br interactions and aromatic π-π stacking.

People are exposed to different kinds of diseases or various accidents in life. Hydroxyapatite (HA) has been widely employed for bone treatment applications. In this study, HA was extracted from sheep bones. Bio-composites were doped with 1, 5, and 10 wt.% of expanded perlite and 5 wt.% of ZrO2–MgO-P2O5. The bio-composites were prepared by the cold isostatic pressing method (250 MPa) and sintered at 900°C for 1 h. In order to evaluate the characteristics of the bio-composites, microhardness, density, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analyses were carried out on them. Additionally, the specimens whose characteristics were determined were kept in synthetic body fluid (SBF), and their in vitro behavior was examined. As a result, it was observed that microhardness increased as both the weight and the grain size of the expanded perlite were increased. Calcium silicate, tri-calcium phosphate, and hydroxyapatite were observed in the XRD analysis of all samples, and the formation of apatite structures was increased by addition of ZrO2–MgO–P2O5.

The reaction of (C6F5)2BCl with 8-lithio-N,N-dimethyl-1-naphthylamine (1) afforded the fivemembered ring system 8-bis(pentafluorophenyl)boryl-N,N-dimethyl-1-naphthylamine (2) with an intramolecular dative B-N bond. The compound was characterised by elemental analysis, NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

This work aims to investigate the influence of surface conditioning of porous Ti for enhancing its biological activity, as assessed by in vitro stem cell testing. Porous Ti samples with an average porosity of 32% were processed by Powder Metallurgy with dextrin as a space holder. The samples were subjected to H2O2 treatment to form an enhanced TiO2 film, followed by a heat treatment at 400°C and 600°C aiming to the crystallization of the as-formed amorphous titanium oxide. Samples characterization was performed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The treated surfaces revealed to be made of both anatase and rutile TiO2, with groove–shaped structure and cracks on the surface of the TiO2 film. The intrinsic biocompatibility of the chemically modified porous Ti surfaces was assessed in vitro. In our cell culture tests, stem cells were found to attach and proliferate better on the chemically treated Ti surfaces compared to the control untreated Ti surfaces.

The dinuclear nickel(II) complex [Ni2LmClO4] + , where Lm represents a 24-membered macrocyclic hexaaza-dithiophenolate ligand, reacts with 5-(4-pyridyl)tetrazole (PyrCN4H) to give the dinuclear complex [Ni2Lm(PyrCN4)]+ . The new complex was both isolated as perchlorate or tetraphenylborate salts and characterised by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy. The structure of [Ni2Lm(PyrCN4)]BPh4 ⋅ MeCN was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, showing that tetrazolate units are in a N2,N3-bridging mode to generate dioctahedral N3Ni(µ-S)2(µ-N4CPyr)NiN3 core.

A new Schiff base, namely 2-methoxy-6-((2-(4 nitrophenyl) hydrazineylidene) methyl)phenol was synthesized and characterized by melting points, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR, 1H-NMR and UV-VIS spectra). The chemical structure of compound was further confirmed by single crystal structural X-ray diffraction. The Schiff base is crystallized in the triclinic space group P-1. In the crystal, molecules are linked by O-H…O hydrogen bonds between the hydroxy “-O-” atom and the methoxy “-O-” atom. Furthermore, the synthesized Schiff base was tested for the in vitro anticandidal activities using CLSI broth microdilution method against human pathogenic Candida albicans, C. parapsilosis and C. krusei standard strains. In the anticandidal activity test results, the new Schiff base was found to be effective at 1 mg/mL - 0.25 mg/mL concentrations. (The last line omitted) (The sentence marked in red will be deleted)

[Cu(L)(AIP)·1.5H2O]n (1) [L= 3,5-di(benzimidazol-1-yl)pyridine, H2AIP= 5-aminoisophthalic acid] was prepared by the solvothermal reaction, which was characterized by single-crystal X–ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. 1 exhibits an infinite two dimensional [Cu(AIP)]n sheet parallel to (0 1 1) crystal plane. Furthermore, complex 1 displays good photocatalytic degradation of methyl blue (MB).
