Microsomal preparations from the developing cotyledons of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) catalyse the acylation of sn-glycerol 3-phosphate in the presence of acyl-CoA. Under these conditions the radioactive glycerol in sn-glycerol 3-phosphate accumulates in phosphatidic acid, phosphatidylcholine, diacyl- and tri-acylglycerol. The incorporation of glycerol into phosphatidylcholine is via diacylglycerol and probably involves a cholinephosphotransferase. The results show that the glycerol moiety and the acyl components in phosphatidylcholine exchange with the diacylglycerol during the biosynthesis of diacylglycerol from phosphatidic acid. The continuous reversible transfer of diacylglycerol with phosphatidylcholine, which operates during active triacylglycerol synthesis, will control in part the polyunsaturated-fatty-acid quality of the final seed oil.

KUALITAS MINYAK BUNGA MATAHARI KOMERSIAL DAN MINYAK HASIL EKSTRAKSI BIJI BUNGA MATAHARI (Helianthus annuus L.) ABSTRAK Minyak komersial dan minyak hasil ekstrasi dari biji bunga matahari melalui uji kadar air, kadar asam lemak bebas, bilangan peroksida. Analisis hasil ekstrak biji bunga matahari diperoleh kadar air 0,43%, kadar asam lemak bebas 0,47% dan bilangan persoksida 5,22 mek/kg. analisis minyak komersial diperoleh kadar air 0,21%, kadar asam lemak bebas 0,28% dan bilangan peroksida 4,18 mek/kg. Hasil analisis dengan kromatografi gas kedua sampel menunjukkan kadar asam lemak bebas berbeda.       Berdasarkan uji kualitas yang dilakukan terhadap kedua sampel yang dianalisis terdapat hasil yang diperoleh tidak memenuhi syarat yang ditentukan yakni kadar asam lemak bebas 0,08% dan bilangan peroksida 2 mek/kg. Kata kunci: Asam lemak bebas, bilangan proksida, minyak biji bunga matahari  QUALITY OF COMMERCIAL SUNFLOWER OIL AND OIL EXTRACTION SEEDS SUNFLOWER (Helianthus annuus L.) ABSTRACT Experimental study of analyzing the extract oil from sunflower seed compare with the commercial sunflower seed oil according to the company standard which includes determining of moisture content, free fatty acid content, peroxide value and the fatty acids compositions is reported in this paper. The result show that the moisture content of the extract oil is 0,43%, free fatly acid content is 0,47%, and the peroxide value is 5,22% mek/Kg. For the commercial sunflower seed oil company product that is 0,21% for the moisture, free fatty acid is 0,28% and the peroxide value is 4,89 mek/Kg. The gas chromatography analysis indicated that the most fatty acid from both samples is linoleic acid. The quality of the extract sunflower seed oil has not been improved to conform with the commercial quality according to the company standard, that is 0,08% for the free fatty acid and 2 mek/Kg for the peroxide value. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of replacing maize with low tannin sorghum (LTS) in layer feed on the physical and nutritional quality of eggs of layers at peak egg production stage. One hundred and twenty, 30-weeks old hens were grouped into three blocks of forty birds per block and were subjected to three different diets: 100%Maize, 50%Maize50%LTS and 100%LTS for 8 weeks. Eggs were collected on the 4th and 8th week of feeding trial. The results showed that eggs had statistically similar weights, amounts of protein, fat, Vitamin E and Vitamin A. The colour of egg yolks increased in lightness and reduced in hue and Chroma significantly across all the dietary blocks with increase in LTS while cholesterol content decreased. The saturated fatty acid content in the albumin and yolk oil extract remained constant irrespective of the period of feeding or variation of Maize and LTS content. The Monounsaturated fatty acid content decreased significantly (P=0.0003) during the whole trial diet period. The Polyunsaturated fatty acid content remained constant for the albumin (P=0.4095) while the yolk showed an increase (P=0.1162) from the initial 15.82±0.57 g/100g on the 4th week to 24.05±7.25 g/100g on the 8th week for diets with 100%Maize. 50%M50%LTS increased from 14.59±0.16 to 21.48±4.19 g/100g and 100%LTS had its Polyunsaturated fatty acid content decline from 13.36±0.31 to 10.71±0.32g/100g. This study indicates that LTS can replace Maize as a source of energy in chicken feeds with no adverse effects on the quality of the eggs.

The effects of microwave treatment on the microstructure, oil yield of camellia seeds, and main physicochemical indexes, fatty acid composition of the oil were researched. The results showed that microwave treatment can improve the speed of extracting oil, and have a certain impact on the fatty acid composition and the quality of camellia seed oil.
