Summary The article has a theoretical-empirical character. Its main goal was to identify reasons of young potential employees’ interest in working at a university. To prepare the theoretical part, the method of cognitive-critical analysis of world literature on marketing, management and HRM was applied. The results of this analysis show an existing cognitive gap and a research gap in the scope of considerations about reasons of interest of the mentioned group of employees in a university as the employer. Striving for reducing both gaps some empirical researches were conducted using the questionnaire method to gather the primary data which were analyzed statistically using the method of exploratory factor analysis, Kruskal-Wallis test, etc. The obtained results made it possible to check three research hypotheses. The possibility to perform a satisfying job was not the key reason for the respondents’ interest in working at a university. The internal structure of reasons for the respondents’ interest in a university as the employer was different for the following two groups: 1/people who think that university’s employees are perceived in Poland better than those who work in other organizations; 2/people who think that university’s employees are perceived in Poland as well as those who work in other organizations. The way of perceiving employees of an university was a feature statistically significantly differentiating the reasons of the respondents’ interest in starting work at the university only in the case of high social prestige and high wages.

Abstract This chapter aims to demonstrate how collaborative working between university staff and students, particularly in the context of subject-based research and inquiry, can result in providing effective consultancy to external clients and address real-life challenges linked to the visitor economy. This aim is achieved through critical analysis of the literature around university staff and students collaborating in research and inquiry activities and the co-creation of academic communities of practice to provide business solutions, and examination of the University of Lincoln/Coventry University/LCFC project to ascertain the role the club has to play in developing 'Brand Lincoln' and the city's economy in the 2020s.

At the University of Vienna Department of Orthopaedics, 26 feet in 21 patients were treated with a basal osteotomy for hallux valgus associated with metatarsus primus varus. In 85% of the cases, a satisfactory result was achieved. Critical analysis revealed shortening of the first metatarsal and elevation of its head, which resulted in excess lateral straining of the foot and metatarsalgia. In 15 cases, osteoarthritis in the metatarsocuneiform joint was also increased. Given these results, an osteotomy that prevents shortening of the first metatarsal and elevation of the head of the first metatarsal, or one that takes these facts into account, seems ideal.

This paper aims to provide a critical analysis of using flipped learning as a teaching method in Higher Education.A study of using filpped learning was carried out within the context of a module on the undergraduate law degree programme at the University of Sheffield.Prior to the study, flipped hearing had not been attempted on an undergraduate law module at the University.Sutdents undertaking the module were asked to complete a survey, and quantative comments were collated. These results will be presented and analysed in this paper. This paper also draws on academic literature to compare perspectives of incorporating this method of teaching into the HE curriculum.This paper summarises the reasons for carrying out the study, together with the key findings from this study. The key conclusions of the paper focus primarily on the benefits of incorporating flipped learning into teaching - with the central benefits being deeper learning for students, and increased engagement in the subject matter. The paper also comments on some of the challenges of this teaching method - the central challenges being the need for consistency and clear signposting, together with a large investment of time by staff in implementing such a teaching method.

On August 24, 2016, a sudden MW 6.0 seismic event hit Central Italy, causing 298 victims and significant damage to residential buildings and cultural heritage. In the days following the mainshock, a macroseismic survey was conducted by teams of the University of Padova, according to the European Macroseismic Scale (EMS98). In this contribution, a critical analysis of the collected macroseismic data is presented and some comparisons were performed with the recent 2012 Emilia sequence.

One month after the Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, left three dead and many injured and arrested, another university faces a tough decision about whether to allow controversial alt-right leader, Richard Spencer, to speak on campus. What seems like a simple decision to allow or deny a speaking request becomes a much deeper conversation about leadership, the value of free speech, and the role of the university to facilitate debate and critical analysis of controversial ideas and viewpoints.

Abstract The Papyrology Rooms of the Sackler Library, Oxford, preserve the correspondence of the two famous papyrologists, B.P. Grenfell and A.S. Hunt, conducted with numerous scholars from Britain and continental Europe. The main subject of this correspondence is the editing of the texts found in the Oxyrhynchus papyri. On some of the most important legal papyri, namely P.Oxy. 1814, 2089 and especially 2103 (the ‘Oxyrhynchus Gaius’), Hunt sought out the collaboration of Roman law scholars such as F. de Zulueta, W.W. Buckland and E. Levy, who all participated to a varying degree in the editorial process of these legal documents. These letters, some of them hitherto unknown, are here published for the first time. They reveal the extent of the collaboration especially between Hunt and de Zulueta, the Regius Professor of Civil Law in Oxford. In addition to this correspondence, another letter on the same theme was discovered in the University Library of Aberdeen, where de Zulueta’s personal library is now located. It was sent to de Zulueta by the Italian Roman law scholar V. Arangio-Ruiz, who was then editing the PSI 1182 (the ‘Florentine Gaius’), and shows the ongoing dialogue between the two scholars on this important legal papyrus. Taken together, these letters allow a reconstruction of the editorial process applied to some of the most significant witnesses of Roman law sources unearthed in the 20th century. This in turn provokes reflection on the desirability of submitting the standard editions of these sources to a new critical analysis.
