Both in Russia and abroad, there are works that are devoted to the problem of optimal placement of measuring devices, which are evidenced by the current literature. The proposed methods are not universal, that does not allow them to be directly used for different types of pipeline systems. In addition, the developed algorithms does not guarantee a global solution. In this regard, there is a demand for solving the problem of optimal placement of measuring devices for pipeline systems. At the same time, not only the number and accuracy of measuring devices, but also their composition and placement locations are important. In this paper, a mathematical formulation of the problem of optimal placement of measuring devices is given, methods for its solution are proposed. The numerical example shows the effectiveness of the proposed method of optimal placement of measuring devices, which allows to get a global solution for a previously known finite number of steps.

This paper presents the optimal and sizing of distributed generation (DG) placement in a radial distribution system for loss reduction. The main emphasis of this paper is to identify proper locations for installing DGs in a distribution system to reduce active power loss and improve bus voltages. Nevertheless, proper placement and sizing of DG units are not straightforward to be identified as a number of their positions and capacities need to be determined. It is therefore proposed in this paper to solve a DG placement problem based on a Tabu search algorithm. The objective function of the problem is to minimize the system loss subject to power flow constraints, bus voltage limits, pre specified number of DGs, and their allowable total installed capacity, and only one distributed generator for one installation position. The effectiveness of the methodology is demonstrated by a practical sized distribution system consisting of 69 bus and 48 load points. The results show that the optimal DG placement and sizing can be identified to give the minimum power loss while respecting all the constraints.

As an alternative to fossil fuels, wind can be considered because it is a renewable and greenhouse gas-free natural resource. When wind power is generated by wind turbines in a wind farm, the optimal placement of turbines is critical because different layouts produce different efficiencies. The objective of the wind turbine placement problem is to maximize the generated power while minimizing the cost in installing the turbines. This study proposes an efficient optimization formulation for the optimal layout of wind turbine placements under the resources (e.g., number of turbines) or budget limit by introducing corresponding constraints. The proposed formulation gave users more conveniences in considering resources and budget bounds. After performing the optimization, results were compared using two different methods (branch and bound method and genetic algorithm) and two different objective functions.

Advertising budget allocation across multiple markets has drawn considerable attention in recent years. To expand previous research and fill a gap in the current literature, this study proposes two decision models for optimal budget allocation decisions across multimarkets with different goals and various constraints. In addition to the market parameters proposed by the Vidale–Wolfe model, the present study incorporates market goals and advertising objectives into budget allocation decisions. Different types of markets are defined in terms of the goal set for market share or profit. Given the characteristics of different markets, two separate decision models are developed. Model I aims to maximize sales volume given a fixed advertising budget, while model II seeks to minimize the advertising budget given a total of targeted sales volume for all the markets. Solutions to the two models are discussed, and a numerical example is provided to demonstrate how to apply the models in making budget allocation decision.

This work, under the optimal experimental design framework, investigates the sensor placement problem that aims to guide electromagnetic induction (EMI) sensing of multiple objects. We use the linearized model covariance matrix as a measure of estimation error to present a sequential experimental design (SED) technique. The technique recursively minimizes data misfit to update model parameters and maximizes an information gain function for a future survey relative to previous surveys. The fundamental process of the SED seeks to increase weighted sensitivities to targets when placing sensors. The synthetic and field experiments demonstrate that SED can be used to guide the sensing process for an effective interrogation. It also can serve as a theoretic basis to improve empirical survey operation. We further study the sensitivity of the SED to the number of objects within the sensing range. The tests suggest that an appropriately overrepresented model about expected anomalies might be a feasible choice.

<p>A novel approach is proposed in this paper for optimal placement of DG units in reconfigured distribution system with the aim of reduction of real power losses while satisfying operating constraints. The proposed analytical method for optimal DG placement is developed based on a new mathematical formulation. Type-I and type-II DG units are used here. The results of the proposed technique are validated on IEEE 69 bus distribution system. The level of DG penetration is also considered in a range of 0–50% of total system load. A novel index is also proposed which incorporates level of DG penetration and percentage reduction in real power losses. The results are promising when compared with recently proposed algorithms.</p>

Optimal placement of FACTS devices attempts to improve power transfer, minimize active power loss, enhance voltage profile and improve voltage stability, thereby making the operation of power systems more flexible and secured. The classical methods experience difficulties in solving the FACTS placement problem (FPP) with discontinuous functions and may diverge or result oscillatory convergence. Besides the number of FACTS devices for placement should be given as an input while solving the problem. The solution methods then attempts to forcefully place all the specified number of devices in the power system, but in reality, the system may require an optimal number of FACTS for placement. The application of swarm-intelligence based optimization algorithms strives to overcome the drawbacks of classical methods. This paper presents a new solution method for FACTS placement problem using improved harmony search optimization (IHSO) with a newly suggested dissonance mechanism that avoids badly composed music, with a view of avoiding the sub-optimal solutions. Besides, the method requires to specify only the maximum number of FACTS devices for placement and places only the optimal number of devices within the specified maximum number of devices. The paper also includes simulation results of three IEEE test systems for exhibiting the superiority of the proposed method.

General consensus exists in the psychological literature with regard to what constitutes child sexual abuse (CSA) and the negative implications for victims of CSA throughout the course of their lives. Recently, different types of cognitive strategies that victims may use to cope with CSA and the possible effects of these coping strategies on memory have received considerable empirical attention. The first aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the current literature about why, how, and when victims of CSA use the cognitive coping strategies of false denial, disclosure, and recantation to cope with psychological, emotional, and even interpersonal implications of their abuse. Over the years, disclosure is the one strategy that has been researched extensively, whereas research on false denial and recantation has barely just begun. The second aim is to provide a recent overview of the relationship between coping strategies and memory in the context of CSA. Specifically, we will discuss how false denials may have the potential to negatively affect a victim’s memory. Finally, we present an argument for the need to undertake research into insufficiently examined coping strategies such as false denial and recantation.

The accessibility and availability of a variety of online gambling for adolescents is a public concern. In the current literature, it remains unclear in which activities the greatest prevalence occurs. Moreover, it is well-known that different types of gambling activities carry different levels of risk just as have distinct socioeconomic, and mental health-related consequences. The main aim of this study is to systematically review the current literature in order to explore the prevalence of different types of online gambling activities reported by adolescents and their relationship with other reported variables when available. It will be conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses-P 2015 statement for systematic review and metaanalysis protocols. An electronic literature search will be conducted using the following databases: PubMed, PsychINFO, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and Google Scholar using search keywords and logic as follows: “(Internet OR online) gambling AND (adolescents OR young people)”. Additionally, further articles will be identified through searching the citations in the literature selected. The overall percentage of online gamblers and the percentage of online gamblers for each type of gambling activity were identified or calculated. Seven-teen articles met the eligibility criteria. The included studies comprised 15 crosssectional and two longitudinal designs. Most of the research was conducted in Europe. The online gambling modalities detected were sports bets, card games, gambling machines, casino games lottery games, scratch tickets, bingo, gambling in social networking, stock market investment, and mahjong. Only two studies provided associations between a specific online gambling activity and socioeconomic and mental health associations, founding involvement in online sports betting and in online casino game is a risk factor to the development of disordered gambling. A consensus on the evaluation method of the problem and updated questionnaires collecting information regarding the new online betting modalities are critical.

<p class="Abstract"><span lang="EN-US">The paper gives formulae for uncertainty evaluation of an indirect measurement based on direct measurements made by different types of measuring devices. The first type of the measuring devices has the specifications of a total error (e.g. digital instruments), while the second type has the specifications of offset, gain and linearity errors (e.g. analog to digital converters). The choice of a device range and the configuration of measuring circuits for decreasing uncertainty are considered. The conversion of the specifications for the first type to the specifications for the second type is discussed.</span></p>
