One-pot synthesis of polyaniline/Fe3O4 nanocomposite in 1-methyl-3-alkylcarboxylic acid imidazolium chloride ([CMMIm]Cl) ionic liquid (IL) was introduced for the first time in this work. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), four probes method and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) were used to explore the influence of IL on the structure, conductivity and magnetic properties of polyaniline/Fe3O4 composite. Compared with Fe3O4 particles prepared in water, the results show that Fe3O4 particles prepare in imidazolium-based ionic liquid were more regular in shape and dispersed uniformly. So the Fe3O4 nanoparticles prepared in IL can easier serve as cores to form the polyaniline/Fe3O4 nanocomposite via in situ chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline molecule. The saturation magnetization of polyaniline/Fe3O4 nanocomposite prepared in ionic liquid shows about 2 times higher than polyaniline/Fe3O4 composite prepared in water. And the conductivities of PANI/Fe3O4 composite prepared in IL decreased and the saturated magnetization increased with the increasing amount of Fe3O4.

The present investigation highlights the synthesis of polyaniline (PANI) coated graphene oxide doped with SrTiO3 nanocube nanocomposites through facile in-situ oxidative polymerization method for the efficient removal of carcinogenic dyes, namely, the cationic dye methylene blue (MB) and the anionic dye methyl orange (MO). The synthesised nanocomposites were characterised by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The adsorption efficiencies of graphene oxide (GO), PANI homopolymer and SrTiO3 nanocubes-doped nanocomposites were assessed by monitoring the adsorption of methylene blue and methyl orange dyes from aqueous solution. The adsorption efficiency of nanocomposites doped with SrTiO3 nanocubes were found to be of higher magnitude as compared with undoped nanocomposite. Moreover, the nanocomposite with 2 wt% SrTiO3 with respect to graphene oxide demonstrated excellent adsorption behaviour with 99% and 91% removal of MB and MO respectively, in a very short duration of time.

To the best of our knowledge, this report presents, for the first time, the schematic of the possible chemical reaction for a one-pot synthesis of Zn0.5Cd0.5Se alloy quantum dots (QDs) in the presence of low/high oleylamine (OLA) contents. For high OLA contents, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) results showed that the average size of Zn0.5Cd0.5Se increases significantly from 4 to 9 nm with an increasing OLA content from 4 to 10 mL. First, [Zn(OAc)2]–OLA complex can be formed by a reaction between Zn(OAc)2 and OLA. Then, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) data confirmed that ZnO is formed by thermal decomposition of the [Zn(OAc)2]–OLA complex. The results indicated that ZnO grew on the Zn0.5Cd0.5Se surface, thus increasing the particle size. For low OLA contents, HRTEM images were used to estimate the average sizes of the Zn0.5Cd0.5Se alloy QDs, which were approximately 8, 6, and 4 nm with OLA loadings of 0, 2, and 4 mL, respectively. We found that Zn(OAc)2 and OLA could form a [Zn(OAc)2]–OLA complex, which inhibited the growth of the Zn0.5Cd0.5Se alloy QDs, due to the decreasing reaction between Zn(oleic acid)2 and Se2−, which led to a decrease in particle size.

The ionic liquid 1-methyl-3-(3-sulfopropyl)imidazolium chloride ([MIMPs]+Cl-) in combination with 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) and sodium nitrite (NaNO2) as a catalytic system demonstrates high efficiency in the one-pot two-step aerobic oxidative condensation of benzyl alcohols with 1,2-phenylenediamines to give benzimidazoles. Various benzimidazoles are obtained in good to excellent yields by this strategy.

Poly(3-octylthiophene) (P3OT)-titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanocomposite powder where TiO2 was embedded with homogeneous dispersion was synthesized by in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization of 3-octylthiophene in the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2), using ferric chloride as the oxidant. The synthesized materials could be obtained as dry powder upon venting of CO2 after the polymerization. The composites were subsequently characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction studies (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and photoluminescence (PL). The incorporation of TiO2 in the composite was endorsed by FT-IR studies. TGA revealed enhanced thermal stability of P3OT/TiO2 nanocomposite compared to 3-octylthiophene. TEM analysis showed that well dispersed TiO2 nanoparticles in the polymer matrix. Photoluminescence quenching increased with increasing TiO2 concentration in the composite.

Abstract Nanocomposites of polystyrene (PS) was prepared with new styrenic ionic liquid, N-(4-vinyl benzyl)-(N,N-dimethylamino) pyridinium chloride[VBMAP], surfactants used as organic modifications for the clays. Sodium montmorillonite (Na-MMT) was successfully modified by [VBMAP] to become OMMT through cation exchange technique which is shown by the increase of basalspacing of clay by XRD. The composite material based on polystyrene and organo-modified montmorillonite (OMMT) was prepared by insitu polymerization and characterized. The morphology of the polymer/clay hybrids was evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) ,transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), showing good overall dispersion of the clay. The thermal stability of the polymer/clay nanocomposites were enhanced, as evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis.

Here we demonstrate the synthesis of a new type of layered poly(3,4-ethylenedioxy- thiophene) (PEDOT)/MoS2 nanocomposite via flocculation of delaminated MoS2 with subsequent in situ oxidative polymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene. The resulting nanocomposite was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, powder x-ray diffraction, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermal analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and four-probe electrical conductivity measurements with respect to temperature. X-ray diffraction results indicated that the exfoliated MoS2 and PEDOT are restacked to produce a novel nanoscale composite material containing alternate nanoribbons of PEDOT in between MoS2 with a basal distance of ∼1.38 nm. The nanocomposite, which could be used as a cathode material for small power rechargeable lithium batteries, has also been demonstrated by the electrochemical insertion of lithium into the PEDOT/MoS2 nanocomposite, where a significant enhancement in the discharge capacity is observed, compared to that of respective pristine molybdenum disulfide.

The simple and efficient method was developed for the one-pot synthesis of B-substituted aryl derivatives of ortho-carborane with functional groups sensitive to organolithium and organomagnesium reagents using 9-iodo-ortho-carborane and generated in situ organozinc compounds. The method proposed was used to prepare a series of 9-aryl-ortho-carboranes, including those containing nitrile and ester groups, 9-RC6H4-1,2-C2B10H11 (R = p-Me, p-NMe2, p-OCH2OMe, o-OMe, p-OMe, o-CN, p-CN, o-COOEt, m-COOEt, and p-COOEt). It was demonstrated that the same approach can be used for synthesis of diaryl derivatives of ortho-carborane 9,12-(RC6H4)2-1,2-C2B10H10 (R = H, p-Me). The solid-state structures of 9-RC6H4-1,2-C2B10H11 (R = p-NMe2, p-OCH2OMe, o-OMe, o-CN, p-CN, m-COOEt, and p-COOEt) and 9,12-(p-MeC6H4)2-1,2-C2B10H10 were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction.

The particle size and morphology have a strong influence on the electrochemical performance of FeS2electrodes. In this paper, a simple one-pot solvothermal method is reported for the synthesis of macroporous pyrite nanotubes for the first time. The phase composition, morphology and structure of the as-obtained products were studied by the energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), scanning electron microscopy, (high-resolution) transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction. The electrochemical properties of the FeS2samples were also investigated. The results demonstrated that the macroporous pyrite nanotubes delivered a higher initial discharge capacity of 925.2 mAh g-1and had good capacity retention.

In this work, Pani and Pani@g-C3N4 was synthesized by in situ oxidative polymerization methodology of aniline, in the presence of g-C3N4. The as prepared Pani@g-C3N4 was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphological analysis showed well dispersed Pani in g-C3N4, as well as the coating of Pani on g-C3N4. The XRD further revealed this, and peaks of Pani as well as g-C3N4 was observed, thereby suggesting successful synthesis of the composite. The DC electrical conductivity studies under isothermal and cyclic aging conditions showed high stability of composites over 100 °C. Further, the synthesized composite material proved to be an excellent antimicrobial agent against both type i.e., gram positive Streptococcus pneumoniae and negative bacteria Escherichia coli. In the zone inhibition assay 18 ± 0.5, 16 ± 0.75 and 20 ± 0.5, 22 ± 0.5 mm zone diameter were found against E. coli and S. pneumoniae in presence of pure g-C3N4 and Pani@g-C3N4 at 50 µg concentrations, respectively. Further antimicrobial activity in the presence of sunlight in aqueous medium showed that Pani@g-C3N4 is more potent than pure g-C3N4.
