The objective set in the research is the following: to develop the methodology and application tools for assessment of the open-pit excavators engineering level when selecting and designing them for specific mining-geological and technical service conditions. To achieve the objective, the methods of statistical data analysis, methods of regression models and of mathematical experimentation building, analysis and synthesis, methods of comprehensive assessment of the engineering level indicators, as well as mathematical modeling and appliance of linear algorithm were used. As a result, there was developed the methodology of comprehensive assessment of engineering level and parameters optimization of open-pit shovel excavators, there was also developed a software package, based on the methodology mentioned above, that allows science-based selection of excavators that possess optimum parameters for the specified conditions.

Stripping and mining operations at open-pit coal mines are performed mainly by heavy shovel-truck systems (STS). One of the main problems of the STS is a rather low level of its operation quality, an objective assessment of which is an important step in identifying the causes of low quality and effective ways to improve it. The purpose of assessing the STS operation quality is defined as a functional criterion. The next important step of the assessment is to choose the set of indicators that most characterize the STS operation quality. In this article we present the rationale, the general principles for the formation of quality indicators set, the sources and the main dependencies for its determination. For this purpose, modern methods of data collection and processing, analysis and synthesis are used. The ability to assess the STS operation quality is very important for identifying the main directions of improving its operational performance, reaching the optimization of the key performance indicators by the quality criterion, and, as a result, for the possible saving of material and technical resources in the open-pit mining of minerals.

SYNOPSIS Conventional mine planning processes result in the selection of pushback widths that maximize equipment productivity. This paper challenges the current notion that pushback width should be set at the distance that assures maximum equipment productivity. A hypothetical case study is presented, which shows that the value of a project may increase beyond that determined by traditional planning practices. It was found that it may be better to deploy more aggressive mining strategies, which are likely to result in greater operational complexity and thus reduced equipment productivity. A higher equipment productivity, which often corresponds to wider (and therefore a lower number of) pushbacks, will also often result in later ore extraction and require higher capital costs. Keywords: open pit mining, pushback width, mine planning, schemes of exploitation, mining rate, equipment utilization.

The selection of parameters in grinding process remains as a crucial role to guarantee that the machined product quality is at the minimum production cost and maximum production rate. Therefore, it is required to utilize more advance and effective optimization methods to obtain the optimum parameters and resulting an improvement on the grinding performance. In this paper, three optimization algorithms which are particle swarm optimization (PSO), gravitational search, and Sine Cosine algorithms are employed to optimize the grinding process parameters that may either reduce the cost, increase the productivity or obtain the finest surface finish and resulting a higher grinding process performance. The efficiency of the three algorithms are evaluated and comparedwith previous results obtained by other optimization methods on similar studies. The experimental results showed that PSO algorithm achieves better optimization performance in the aspect of convergence rate and accuracy of best solution.Whereas in the comparison of results of previous researchers, the obtained result of PSO proves that it is efficient in solving the complicated mathematical model of surface grinding process with different conditions.

Assessment of the shovel-truck system (STS) operation quality is based on the well-known method of non-expert assessment of the quality of mining machines. The methodology is based on the fundamental principles of qualimetry and allows making the assessment of functionally homogeneous machines of different sizes, types and designs based on the functional criterion of the machine, which determines its main purpose. In this work, the quality assessment is made not for a single machine, but for a set of machines, taking into account their interaction. Assessment of the STS operation quality allows us to create a basis for the selection of priority areas for its improvement. The work uses methods of mathematical modeling, data collection and processing, statistics, analysis and synthesis. A comprehensive quality assessment makes it possible to predict the level and select priority areas for improving existing STSs or STSs being projected.

The article discusses ways to reduce energy consumption in the open-pit mining of minerals in the conditions of Kuzbass by reducing the sticking to the working automobile equipment and excavator complexes. When excavating and transporting cohesive rocks, due to a sharp change in climatic conditions, adhesion-cryogenic processes occur (sticking, freezing on excavator buckets, dumpcars, conveyor belts, dump truck bodies, etc.). This significantly reduces the efficiency of excavating and transport complexes. In this paper, we consider the adhesion-cryogenic processes affecting the rock, methods of anti-sticking for the selection of optimal solutions.

Loading and transport operations at open-pit mines are performed mainly by heavy loading & transport systems (LTS). One of the main problems of the LTS is a rather low level of its operation quality, mainly due to the imbalanced influence of various factors on the efficiency of the joint operation of shovels and trucks as parts of the LTS. In this article we formulate, derive and analyze a functional criterion for assessing the LTS operation quality at open-pit mines. The rationale, general principles of the functional criterion formation, its general form for mixed (heterogeneous) truck and shovel fleets, which are typical for modern mining LTSs, are presented. For this purpose, modern methods of data collection and processing, mathematical modeling, analysis and synthesis are used. The possibility of assessing the LTS operation quality is very important for identifying the main directions of improving its operational performance and operation quality, for reaching an optimization of the key performance indicators by the quality criterion, and, as a result, for a possible saving of resources during the open-pit mining of minerals.

Large-scale mining disturbs wide areas of land. The development program for the mining industry, with an expected considerable increase in production output, aggravates the problem with even vaster territories exposed to the adverse anthropogenic impact. Recovery of mining-induced ecosystems in the mineral-extracting regions becomes the top priority objective. There are many restoration mechanisms, and they should be used in integration and be highly technologically intensive as the environmental impact is many-sided. This involves pollution of water, generation of much waste and soil disturbance which is the most typical of open pit mining. Scale disturbance of land, withdrawal of farming land, land pollution and littering are critical problems to the solved in the first place. One of the way outs is highquality reclamation. This article reviews the effective rules and regulations on reclamation. The mechanism is proposed for the legal control of disturbed land reclamation on a regional and federal level. Highly technologically intensive recovery of mining-induced landscape will be backed up by the natural environment restoration strategy proposed in the Disturbed Land Reclamation Concept.
