In this analysis mahua oil biodiesel isselected as one of the best alternative fuel to diesel.Transesterficiation processisusedforbiodieselproduction.Serious concern on the emissions, in particularthe nitrogen oxides (NOx), PM (particulate matters) and carbondioxide (CO2)led to think about additives to improve the overall performance. In this investigation additives are used to improve the performance, combustion and emission characteristics of Mahua biodiesel (B) and Diesel (D) blends. B20 blend is used as basic blend to compare the performance.Ethanol (E) and Propanol (P) used as additives indiesel-biodiesel blend with 5%,10% and 15%and tested in VCR diesel engine. Ethanol shown better performance in particular as compare to Propanol. The reduction of NOx, CO, CO2, HC emission in diesel engine and also increase performance in addition of 10% ethanol. From this conclude the result ethanol is alternative to improve efficiency of diesel engine by using the blended biodiesel.

The primary objective of this study is to discover the effects of injection timing on performance, emission and combustion characteristics effect of advanced and retarded injection timing of the engine fuelled with mahua oil biodiesel blends. The engine performance, combustion and emission characteristics of the mahua oil biodiesel blends (B20, B40, B60, B80and B100) are investigated in this experimentation without any modification of the diesel engine. At this advanced pressure t he efficiency of engine by means of CO, Unburned HC gases and smoke emissions with higher oxides of nitrogen was observed compared to diesel. The obtained results are compared with a neat diesel and mahua oil biodiesel blends are shown through the graphs. From this study, identifies optimum fuel blend of this work. Thus, the combustion of duration is similar in all variance in pressure. This research paved a way to bio-diesel in mahua oil mixture and draws best outcome in emission less and to maintain eco-friendly environment.

In this investigation, tests were conducted on a single cylinder DI diesel engine fueled with neat diesel and biodiesel as baseline fuel with addition of 5 to 20% DEE on a volume basis in steps of 5 vol.% as supplementary oxygenated fuel to analyze the simultaneous reduction of smoke and oxides of nitrogen. Some physicochemical properties of test fuels such as heating value, viscosity, specific gravity and distillation profile were also determined in accordance to the ASTM standards. The results obtained from the engine tests have shown a significant reduction in NOX emissions especially for biodiesel and a little decrease in smoke of DEE blends compared with baseline fuels. A global overview of the results has shown that the 5% DEE-Diesel fuel and 15% DEE-Biodiesel blend are the optimal blend based on performance and emission characteristics.

An organic compound, Dioxane, is blended to reduce the viscosity of raw vegetable oil (Mahua). A dilute blend was prepared by mixing with raw vegetable oil (Mahua) and 10% dioxane in volume basis. Tests were conducted on a single cylinder, water cooled, DI diesel engine coupled with the eddy current dynamometer. Emissions like HC, NOX, etc., were measured by using gas analyzer and smoke density was measured by using smoke meter. The cylinder pressure, heat release rate were measured by combustion analyzer. From the experimental investigation, it was observed that operating at a blend ratio of 10% diesel-80% mahua oil-10% Dioxane significantly reduced the HC and NOx emissions when compared to diesel fuel. It was also observed, the variation of break thermal efficiency is almost same to that of diesel fuel. Hence, it can be concluded that raw vegetable oil (mahua) with Dioxane blend could partially replace the diesel, as a fuel.

Emission characteristics of an electronic-controlled high pressure common-rail diesel engine with low-blend Gas-to-liquids (GTL) and low-blend biodiesel fuels are studied. Pure diesel fuel, G10 fuel (10% GTL blend with diesel fuel) and B10 fuel (10% biodiesel blend with diesel fuel) are used in this research. The results show that torque of the engine with pure diesel fuel is higher than G10 fuel, and B10 fuel is the lowest. Compared to the pure diesel fuel, the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) of the engine with G10 fuel decreases, but the B10 fuel increases slightly. Hydrocarbon (HC) emissions of the engine with G10 fuel or B10 fuel are lower than the pure diesel fuel, and the carbon monoxide (CO) emission increases slightly, and nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions have no distinct change. Compared to the G10 fuel, the CO and HC emissions of the engine with B10 fuel are lower.
