The article discusses the modern state of architecture and construction in the world, aimed on saving energy through specific architectural and structural design of buildings. It is noted that for the time being energy saving in the majority of countries is nearly the main problem, and that is a challenge for contemporary architecture and construction. There are some ways of efficient solution of the problem in question. Among these the design and construction of special types of buildings seems to be the most notable.

Globalization is shrinking the world in many senses, but at the rates at which it is happening in various countries is different depending on where any country is situated on the scale of development; however, in construction industry, the level of globalization is much lower than in other segments of the economy, across most of the countries. True and the desired level of globalization can be achieved only when the design and construction practices are globally harmonized but adopting context-specific customization to accommodate the genius of each country. This paper aims to promote such diversity in unity. The global construction industry will be the biggest beneficiary of such a globalizing movement. World has faced several crises in different countries due to many reasons like war, terrorism, bad governance, which is leading to unemployment even among highly capable engineers. A globalized environment in construction would leverage global talent despite such adverse socio-political and environmental differences. Cost-optimization is likely to take on a different meaning, gaining a wider level of acceptability across the globe.

Sun is the renewable energy source whose usage exerts influence on architectural design. Facade concepts of energy efficient buildings are developed producing new facade structures and components. Photovoltaic systems, as elements of active solar systems are discussed in the paper and particular attention is paid to building integrated systems, as they influence building appearance. Classification and analyzes of PV systems - materials, supporting systems, coatings and design principles are presented in the paper. The purpose of this paper is discussion on design and construction possibilities for PV integration in envelopes of new and existing buildings. Possibilities for structural variability of envelopes with PV integrated systems are described in the paper. .

Fala Gaba-gaba is a traditional house with most of the building material coming from sago trees. Where sago trees are plants that grow a lot in eastern Indonesia including Maluku, North Maluku and Papua. Made from natural materials, coupled with an opening arrangement that adapts to the local climate makes the traditional house "fala gaba-gaba" as one of the energy-efficient buildings. The purpose of this study is to describe the construction of a traditional house "fala gaba-gaba" from the foundation, body and roof of the building associated with Energy Saving Buildings. The conclusion that can be drawn is one of the embodiments of energy-efficient buildings, this can be proven by placing the orientation of the building towards the direction of the wind and sun, wall and floor materials used, placement of openings that can maximize lighting and natural acceleration and building type which is a stilt house can maximize lighting and natural air.

The article is an attempt to capture the problem of changes occurring in the last dozen or so years in the architecture of energy-efficient houses in Europe, including Poland, in the light of economic and legal conditions. In the studies subordinated to the analysis of the literature, the focus was on those features of energy-efficient buildings that are derived from the logic of solutions of traditional country houses. The genesis of the form of the modern energy-saving house can be found in the principles of building and situating houses developed through the experience of previous generations. These principles took into account the specificity of the climate and existing local conditions. Modern energy-saving construction adds new technologies and new building materials to the traditional form.

Optimal design of an energy efficient building has to meet two confronted demands: to minimize total cost of construction, and to minimize environmental impact and energy consumption, which is usually obtained by the implementation of expensive insulation materials and equipment. Therefore, optimization task cannot be formulated by a single objective function, but requires at least two functions. Consequently, there is no unique, i.e. the best solution, but a number of more or less acceptable ones among which designer chooses a satisfying one considering given demands and limitations. This paper presents methodology for using the Big Bang – Big Crunch algorithm for optimum design of an energy efficient building that would meet two confronted demands – the lowest price and the lowest environmental impact during the 25 years period. Presented study showed that this approach provides several acceptable solutions among which the decision maker can make a choice in accordance with his/her needs and wishes.

Introduction. In the aspect of modern environmental problems, there is a great necessity to develop and apply the energy and efficient technologies. It refers to those types of activities that, by their operation, ensure the restoration of the spiritual and physical forces of a person (recreator). Establishments of recreation infrastructure can use "green" innovative technologies, in particular those that will provide energy efficiency and energy saving, in order to increase the level of environmental safety. Purpose. The article aims to study and generalize the national and international experience of the implementing energy efficient technologies as an instrument for improving the environmental safety of recreational infrastructure establishments. Results. To achieve the goals and objectives in the article the feasibility of using energy efficient technologies in the construction and modernization of recreational establishments, in particular, accommodation establishments has been substantiated. The main technical requirements for "energy efficient" buildings of recreation establishments have been highlighted. The experience of using such technologies in European countries has been analysed.
