In spite of the official goals of support for rural tourism promulgated by governmental bodies, rural tourism remains a marginal phenomenon. This lack of confidence in rural tourism has relatively deep roots. The basis for this is almost of an ontological nature and consists in opposition, although subconscious, against “commodified authenticity”. Another source of this lack of confidence lies in the fact that rurality, the main attractive feature of tourism, has been substantially impaired as a result of trends in the 20th century. A third reason follows from the combination of rural tourism and mass recreation, as well as inadequate response by governmental bodies and authorities to the risks for regional stability, based on unmanaged mass tourism.

The rural areas represent an extensive territorial or natural, human and economic potential which is utilized unevenly and imperfectly. One of the alternatives of using this potential is to develop tourism in those municipalities, which have appropriate conditions for the development of activities connected to tourism at their disposal. The aim of this paper is to identify the development potential of rural municipalities in the light of tourism (in the area of the Nitra Self-governing Region), to evaluate this potential using the valorisation method and to define the individual categories of rural municipalities. The results of the typology provide important information about the potential of the rural areas for the development of tourism and about the current utilization of this potential. They are also used to create the concept of the development of rural tourism in the Nitra Self-governing Region and to represent a tool for effectively allocated public resources for municipalities and for entrepreneurial subjects in the municipalities.

Newspaper coverage about the smoking ban in the hospitality industry: A content analysis. Newspaper coverage about the smoking ban in the hospitality industry: A content analysis. In the Netherlands relatively few people support the hospitality industry smoking ban. Possibly this is due to the way the media covered the smoking ban. A content analysis of 1,041 articles in six Dutch newspapers showed that when there were economic aspects of the ban in the newspaper articles, the articles were mostly negative towards the smoking ban (62% negative, 29% positive, 9% mixed or neutral). The same was true when the newspaper articles dealt with resistance against the ban (69% negative, 26% positive, 5% mixed). When there were health aspects in the articles, the articles were equally often positive as negative (42% positive, 43% negative, 15% mixed or neutral). Although the smoking ban was implemented to protect hospitality workers from the health damage of passive smoking, economic aspects (59%) and the resistance against the ban (46%) appeared more often in the newspapers than health aspects (22%).

Soils that have small load capacity need to have their mechanical characteristics improved in order to portray parameters that provide safety to the desired works. The geocells were developed to obtain a cellular confinement system used for reinforcement, protection and coating of slopes, similar to a beehive, which can be filled with soil, granular materials or concrete. However, the present work presents economic viability methods between the projected concrete and the geotextile. With the methodology, it was considered that the alternative use of geocell promoted savings of 35% compared to the projected concrete. The results indicated by tables that compose the projected concrete coatings and geocells were made available by the executing company. Finally, the method was applied to the soil-cement satisfactorily serving the execution, mechanical and economic aspects.
