Quality management tools undoubtedly influence the production processes in the company, by the creation of favorable conditions for its improvement. The proper selection and proper use of these tools is essential to improve the functioning of the company. Therefore, the main goal undertaken at work was to assess the situation related to the selection and effectiveness of methods used by a selected company operating in the metal industry. Moreover, it was necessary to determine to what extent these methods are applied and which of them have the greatest impact on the effectiveness of the process of improving the functioning of the enterprise.

Summary Lean Management is a philosophy and management concept, based on reduction of the waste and resources used in the process of producing goods and providing services. Lean Management genesis dates back to scientific management in America (for example concepts of H. Ford and F.W. Taylor) and quality management, including development of TQM concept. Japanese Toyota Production System has been inspired by chosen elements of these concepts, and then it evolved towards global concept called Toyota Way (which connects production rules with values and work attitude). TPS is considered to be a major precursor of lean manufacturing and now more widely – Lean Management. LM is a broader set of organisational and management tools, formed mainly by the Japanese culture, but also subjected to the Western influences in the field of organisation and management (Jakonis 2011, Parkes 2014).

Abstract In this paper there were presented some issues connected with Lean concept in improving of production processes. The research was conducted on the example of production enterprises that function in metal industry. The enterprises for the research were chosen purposefully, because of two reasons - the possibility to obtain information on the researched area and the assumption that these enterprises use the lean concept instruments. The questionnaire was the research tool. The goal of the research was to examine, what are the most expected advantages from implementing of lean concept methods, and what were the real advantages, that occurred in production system of researched enterprises. The authors presented the quantitative results of the study and carried out an analysis of the response in the form of a matrix. The developed matrix extended the knowledge about the distribution of observed benefits. It enables to indicate which advantages occurred in the enterprises expecting and not expecting some benefits.

AbstractThe G8D method is a universal method for solving problems arising in production processes, also used in optimisation of these processes. The method allows the detection and elimination of any drawbacks occurring in manufacturing processes and ensuring the safety of these processes. In the article, the authors have presented one of the sensitive and critical disciplines of the G8D problem solving method in production processes, i.e. discipline D2 - “problem description”. The authors have presented the algorithm of procedure in the discipline D2 as well as the quality management tools that can be used to correctly “describe the problem”. The authors have also discussed the procedure for the discipline D2 in the “problem description” for the case of the projection welding of a nut.

AbstractThe G8D method is one of the methods used in quality management using quality management tools and designed to solve problems occurring in production processes. The method consists of 8 disciplines and ensures the required quality of both production processes and finished products. It may also be applied to the optimization of production processes, while ensuring their safety. In the article, the authors presented the method of using the D4 discipline algorithm of the G8D method allowing to detect the root cause of the problem in the process and to indicate the so-called escape point. The authors presented the course of action for discipline D4 undertaken when the root cause of the problem is to be analysed. The procedure is presented on an exemplary process of the projection welding of a nut.

Property is what’s exchanged in markets, and this chapter examines its nature, introduces the ideological dispute between Locke and Bentham over its origins and the implications of their views for government and individuals, and shows how and to what effect property is exchanged in explicit markets. Rights are distinguished from objects, and property is defined as rights to control specific objects for specific uses at specific times, so different people may own different property rights in a single object at the same time. For Locke, individuals have these rights naturally and create government to protect them, while Bentham argues that government creates rights and can allocate them coercively toward its proper ends. The creation of new rights to resolve disputes is considered, and movement of property rights to higher-valuing owners by voluntary exchange in perfectly favorable conditions is illustrated by a hypothetical dispute over the use of a house.

AbstractThe tools for quality management are used for quality improvement throughout the whole Europe and developed countries. Simple statistics are considered one of the most basic methods. The goal was to apply the simple statistical methods to practice and to solve problems by using them. Selected methods are used for processing the list of internal discrepancies within the organization, and for identification of the root cause of the problem and its appropriate solution. Seven basic quality tools are simple graphical tools, but very effective in solving problems related to quality. They are called essential because they are suitable for people with at least basic knowledge in statistics; therefore, they can be used to solve the vast majority of problems.
