This article is devoted to the study of some theoretical and practical problems of concluding a conditional agreement in the form of a smart contract. The article defines and characterizes a conditional agreement and describes its differences from ordinary transactions. The author analyzes the possibility of expressing conditional agreements in the form of a smart contract, taking into account the features of setting program code, as well as features of the agreement (a condition that the special nature of the rights and obligations of the parties activity). As a result of the research, it was concluded that the conditional transaction structure is ideally suited to the elementary program code for creating a smart contract. However, the condition contained in the transaction must be strictly formalized and expressed in clear values, such as numbers. The main problems that arise when creating a smart contract are also identified: the complexity of getting data from the real world by the system, weak state control, and possible data leakage from the system. Thus, the use of digital technologies is a prospective direction for the development of conditional agreements, but this requires solving both legal and some technical problems.

Since its inception in the late 2000s, blockchain has emerged as a powerful tool for creating trust without intermediaries to incentivize global communities for working for a common goal, such as the improvement of its very ecosystem, its applications and community adoption. While first blockchains were mainly devised for confirming transactions of their innate cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, smart-contract blockchains like Ethereum can interface with the real-world through so-called “oracles”, which feed trustful off-chain information. This paper introduces digital twins of physical objects and processes as computational oracles to effectively unleash the tremendous opportunity offered by blockchain to the realm of fundamental science, research and technology development (RTD). The crowdsourcing concept is illustrated with the example of centrifugal flow control in microfluidic “Lab-on-a-Disc” (LoaD) systems.

The paper is devoted to the problems of committing crimes using virtual reality technologies and their qualifications. The optional features of the objective side and their significance when using new digital technologies are characterized. The factors complicating the investigation of such crimes are analyzed in detail. According to the results of the study, the authors come to the conclusion that the technology of virtual reality gives a criminal completely new opportunities. First, virtual reality allows you to manipulate the emotions and consciousness of the victim at a completely new level. The psycho-emotional effect is comparable in strength to the effect of events in the real world, at the same time it can be achieved remotely via the Internet. Secondly, in connection with the integration into the virtual environment of real-world devices, the consequences of actions in virtual reality also extend to the real world. This means that many criminal acts for which contact with the victim was necessary can now be performed remotely.

This paper considers the feasibility of using augmented reality (AR) as a tool for enhancing visualization in maritime operations to avoid collision in different environmental conditions. According to the International Maritime Organization (IMO 2010), 90% of maritime accidents due to collisions at sea are caused in part by human error. This study investigates the new technology (AR) used to superimpose holographic images onto the real world; now reaching a state of readiness for commercial application. This paper demonstrates the competence of AR technology to serve as a maritime navigational aid. The research explores the viability of improving navigational safety in low visibility by projecting holograms of real-world objects in the same geo-location as the real object to make them “visible”. The paper presents the logical deconstruction of the technical problems and identified solutions, together with results of experiments used to validate the concept and technology readiness for real word maritime application. The paper presents a verified demonstrator; a proposed holographic bridge interface with an innovative way of presenting information using AR technology. Furthermore, it identifies that new technologies offer the opportunity for enhanced operator performances, with the expectation being that this should lead to reduce risk to persons, property, and the environment.

Based on digital and conventional ethnography, this paper discusses how Bosnian refugees utilize digital technologies and new media to recreate, synchronize and sustain their identities and memories in the aftermath of ethnic cleansing and genocide and in the contexts of their new emplacements and home-making practices in the diaspora. In addition to discussing representations of displacement and emplacement in the “digital age”, the paper also aims to make a contribution to the understanding and application of digital ethnography as an emerging method of inquiry in anthropology and related social science and humanistic disciplines. While some researchers see digital ethnography as a form of research based exclusively online, it is also crucial to understand the online world in the context of the real world – made of real people, places and social relations.

This article presents some streamlined and intentionally oversimplified ideas about educating future communication disorders professionals to use some of the most basic principles of evidence-based practice. Working from a popular five-step approach, modifications are suggested that may make the ideas more accessible, and therefore more useful, for university faculty, other supervisors, and future professionals in speech-language pathology, audiology, and related fields.
