Photocatalytic Stoichiometric Oxidant-Free Synthesis of Linear Unsaturated Ketones from 1,2-Disubstituted Cyclopropanols

AbstractA one-step catalytic oxidant-free synthesis of unsaturated ketones from 1,2-disubstituted cyclopropanols is reported. Previously for this transformation, only two- and three-step protocols have been developed. The reaction proceeds under irradiation with visible light in the presence of catalytic amounts of both an acridinium photocatalyst and a cobaloxime complex. 2-Aryl-substituted cyclopropanols react giving α,β-unsaturated ketones, while dehydrogenative ring opening of 2-alkyl-substituted substrates affords mixtures of α,β- and β,γ-enones. The reaction starts with one-electron oxidation of a cyclopropanol to cyclopropyloxy radical, presumably, by the photoexcited acridinium catalyst. We also found that Co(dmgBF2)2(MeCN)2 complex under an air atmosphere and irradiation with blue LEDs or upon heating can serve as a hydroxycyclopropane oxidant.

Abstract4-Pyrones bearing electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups react with nonstabilized azomethine ylides to form pyrano[2,3-c]pyrrolidines in moderate to good yields. The reaction proceeds chemoselectively as a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of the azomethine ylide at the carbon–carbon double bond of the pyrone activated by the electron-withdrawing substituent. The reactivity of 4-pyrones toward azomethine ylides was rationalized by computational studies with the use of reactivity indexes. The pyrano[2,3-c]pyrrolidine moiety could be modified, for example by a ring-opening transformation under the action of hydrazine to provide pyrazolyl-substituted pyrrolidines.

In this study, we coated the surface of glass slides with nanoprotrusion, nanoparticles, and nanofilm structures by one-step plasma deposition of three vinyl monomers. Three functional vinyl monomers with symmetrical polarity sites were used: methyl methacrylate (MMA), trifluoro methylmethacrylate (TFMA), and trimethylsilyl methyl methacrylate (TSMA). The TSMA/MMA (80/20, mol-%) nanoprotrusion-coated surface of slide glass was superhydrophobic, with a 153° contact angle. We also evaluated the transmittance (%) of the slide glass with nanoprotrusions in the infrared (IR) (940 nm), ultraviolet (365 nm) and visible light (380–700 nm) regions. The obtained nanoprotrusion structure surface of slide glass created by plasma deposition transmits more than 90% of visible light.

A visible-light-induced direct α-oxygenation of N-substituted tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives has been successfully developed. Metalloporphyrin (ZnTPP) has been identified as an effective and inexpensive photocatalyst for this transformation with a wide range of substrates. This protocol provides a convenient route to afford the desired products in moderate to good yields at room temperature under air atmosphere.
