Abstract Introduction Acromion is essential for stabilizing the shoulder complex. Tumors of the acromion are rare. We report the largest series of acromion tumor and tumor-like lesion. Materials and Methods A retrospective review of the oncology and radiology database within our tertiary center for orthopaedic oncology was performed to identify all tumors of the acromion over the past 30 years and imaging was reviewed. Results We identified a total of 31 lesions arising in the acromion and chondrosarcoma was the commonest. Conclusion One needs to be aware of tumor and tumor-like lesions of acromion.

Objective: Facial nerve paralysis is one of the most devastating complications after parotid gland surgery. We aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of facial palsy after parotidectomy.Methods: We performed a retrospective review of the data from 54 patients who underwent parotid surgery between 2004 and 2015 at a tertiary medical care center. The prevalence of facial nerve paralysis and possible risk factors (demographic characteristics, tumor characteristics, and operative factors) associated with postoperative paralysis were assessed. Categorical variables were evaluated using the Fisher’s exact test, and a two-tailed t-test was used to assess the associations between continuous and binary outcome variables.Results: The postparotidectomy prevalence of temporary and permanent facial nerve paralysis were 26% and 13%, respectively. Tumors involving both lobes were significantly associated with permanent facial nerve paralysis (p = .048). Long operative duration (> 164 minutes) was associated with both temporary and permanent facial nerve paralysis (p = .040).Conclusions: Operative factors such as operative duration and tumor characteristics such as bilobal involvement increased the risk of postparotidectomy facial nerve paralysis. Such factors should be considered to reduce the risk of palsy in patients undergoing parotidectomy.

Thirty-eight cases of Shigella vaginitis were identified in a retrospective review of records kept over the past 14 years. The cases of vaginitis were due to three subgroups of Shigella. Vaginitis varied in severity and duration, persisting for several months in some instances. In 47% of the cases, there was associated bloody vaginal discharge. Only two children had diarrhea temporally associated with vaginitis, but six others had had diarrhea. Many treatment modalities were used. Systemic antibiotic therapy appeared more effective than topical antimicrobials in the few patients who could be evaluated. Review of the literature revealed 32 additional cases, including four in adult women.

This paper discusses the preparation of tooth design for porcelain veneers. It follows the literature more than three decades back in the past. From the very beginning, porcelain veneers were placed to no/minimally prepared tooth substance, showing different problems in clinical use. Later, the technique of etching the porcelain and controlling the reduction of tooth structure, presented the great steps forward in porcelain veneers accepting. A special accent concerning the preparative design was placed on variations of incisal edge preparation - the problem, which is still present in current practice. Additionally, the paper emphasizes the extremely demanding protocols in making the porcelain veneers as well as their expanded clinical indications.

Introduction. Perfect polyphase unimodular sequences, i. e. sequences with ideal periodic autocorrelation and single amplitude of symbols are widely used in modern radio communications and radar. A special place among them is occupied by perfect ternary sequences (PTSs) with elements {–1, 0, 1}. In fact, these are binary sequences with the alphabet {–1, 1}, but with zero symbols in some positions. It is known that PTSs are quite numerous and their length in comparison with perfect binary sequences is not limited from above. The charge for this is a peak factor greater than one, which causes energy losses in the receiver. A large number of research papers and books are devoted to the design of PTSs and the study of their properties. In particular, the handbook on sequence design by Fan and Darnell (1996) which provides an overview of the then known PTS families has become widely famous. However, over the past two decades, numerous new PTS families were discovered, some theorems on their existence were obtained, and connections were established between them and circulant weighing matrices. Therefore, there is a need for a new review of existing PTSs.Objective. The article is devoted to a retrospective review of existing PTSs and their generation devices.Materials and methods. Considered and analyzed domestic and foreign sources of information (books, journal papers, conference proceedings, patents).Results. Along with solving an informational bibliographic problem, the review shows the relationship between PTSs obtained at different times, their connection with circulant weighing matrices, and also describes the block diagrams of generators of some PTS families.Conclusion. A brief retrospective review of PTSs for their almost 60 years history is presented and the generators of some PTS families are considered. The results of the study are relevant for use in modern radio communications and radar systems and in particular, in CW and LPI radars.

AbstractClinicians are commonly faced with patients presenting with a solitary palpable soft tissue mass. Most soft tissue lesions are benign, and not every mass is due to a neoplastic process. Many pathologies can mimic a malignant tumor. Despite appropriate clinicoradiologic assessment, these lesions can be mistaken for a soft tissue sarcoma and can lead to multiple investigations or an intervention, inconveniencing patients and leading to an increased health care cost. With the relevant clinical history, clinical examination, and specific imaging characteristics, the diagnosis can be narrowed. We present a pictorial review of soft tissue sarcoma mimics with guidance on appropriate differential diagnoses.
