Typical applications for post-installed rebar connections consist in overlapping joints with existing reinforcement or anchoring of the reinforcement at a slab or beam support. At cold state it may be shown by testing that a post-installed rebar system can develop the same bond resistance with the same safety margin as cast-in-place rebar. Consequently, anchorage length and lap length for post-installed rebars can be calculated as for cast-in-place according to the Eurocode 2 provisions. However, when subjected to temperature, the decay in bond properties for post-installed systems is significantly more dramatic than for cast-in-place rebars. The paper presents the result of an experimental campaign carried out on a post-installed connection using a vinylester polymer, investigating the effects on the bond strength both of the temperature and of different testing conditions. Finally, design criteria are provided and applied to a typical case study consisting in a post-installed solid slab.

The challenges encountered in building the InternationalChildren’s Digital Library (ICDL), a freely availableonline library of children’s literature are described. Thesechallenges include selecting and processing books fromdifferent countries, handling and presenting multiplelanguages simultaneously, and addressing cultural differences. Unlike other digital libraries that present content from one or a few languages and cultures, and focuson either adult or child audiences, ICDL must serve amultilingual, multicultural, multigenerational audience. The research is presented as a case study for addressingthese design criteria; current solutions and plans forfuture work are described.

This research is motivated by the increasing variety of activities that can be done while in the park. The diversity of activities is what then raises the tendency of visitors to choose the design and layout of comfortable seating to support activities while in the park. This study aims to determine the factors and impacts that are felt by visitors related to the comfort of the park seating facilities in general and find out what visitors need related to park seating facilities. Research subjects were park visitors without age restrictions or other categorizations. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, namely by making observations and direct and in-depth observations of the park used as a case study in this study. The data obtained is then processed and analyzed. The results of the analysis are then carried out the final validation test in the study to ensure compatibility of observations and observations with the validation test that has been done. The results of the study were in the form of design criteria and good and comfortable seating facilities for park visitors.

In this chapter are developed some considerations about the heuristic potentialities of parametric digital modeling as a tool for analyzing and interpreting architectural heritage. Observed that the parametric thinking in architecture could be recognized almost from the origin, new parametric modeling software allows to verify the design criteria of the past. On the basis of previous studies on Baroque vaulted atria, this chapter develops, using parametric modeling tools, a real vocabulary of shapes and their possible combinations, suggested by the architectural literature of the time and the survey of about seventy atria in Turin. This method has been tested on the case study of the lunettes dome in the atrium of Palazzo Carignano.

A series of research studies were conducted to develop design criteria for a general purpose mechanical input device. The design criteria and parameters were established with ergonomic studies which included task analysis, competitive analysis and human performance testing. By taking a leadership role in the production issues, Human Factors engineers were successful in having the results of their research implemented into a new design. This report is a case study which offers some insight into methodological and design issues associated with producing an ergonomically designed product.

Abstract: Thread Strength and repair capability are critical to successful screw joints for any mechanical assembly. This paper explores the effect of the thread damage utilizing hand calculations, the margin of safety (MOS) for internal & external threads and compares with the required design criteria limit. Hence, the reduction in thread capability is analyzed in terms of shear and bearing strength of threads. This paper also emphasizes the Industry-standard repair techniques such as Helical inserts, Oversize inserts, and Twinserts with limitations and expected process/techniques. Advanced thread repairs in the market such as solid-body thread inserts (key-style, Time-sert, Big-sert) are also discussed Keywords: Thread damages, Shear strength, bearing strength. Title: Living Arrangement Pattern Nursing Home Occupants Based Activities and BehaviorPhysical comfort in a building can give an effect to the psychological inhabitans. In the design of nursing homes, where the residents are elderly, certainly they have a different physical comfort with a younger people. The degenerative disease on elderly cause the need for special attention in architecture, especially on safety and comfort. Currently the nursing homes, mostly do not noticed it well, so still discovered lots of the elderlies got an accident and depressed in a nursing home. This research purpose to know the relationship between the aspects of both comfort and safety for elderly in nursing home that can make the elderly feel comfortable and happy living in their residence. The methods of this research is as follows: first, understand the criteria of elderly in related literatures and observations regarding to the elderly and other related literatures that subscribe with safety and comfort. Second, the literatures study were used to analyze the case study such as Nursing Home Wisma Mulia (Jakarta), Nursing Home Senjarawi (Bandung), and Nursing Home Muara Kasih (Bogor). The results of analysis from the case studies based on the literature, produce an architectural design criteria for the review occupancy elderly. The results of this research concluded that the design of the comfortable and safe against risk of any accident that may occur to the elderly, provided a circulation which can be passes by two wheelchairs at once and freeway, provided handrail in the circulation, provided ramp in any difference level of floor, and using a contrast color but dominant in light and warm color. The other considerations are the availability nostalgic room, playroom for children and the other facility that make the frequency of their families, visiting more often. Keywords: Elderly , safety , comfort , nursing homes.

A case-study pertaining to a number of existing breakwaters located on northern coastlines of the Gulf of Oman, directly facing the Makran Subduction Zone (MSZ) sets the context in order to elucidate the adopted methodologies for both Probabilistic Tsunamis Hazard Analysis (PTHA) as well as investigating breakwater stability in the event of a major tsunami. MSZ stretches from west to east for over 900 (km), affecting the coastlines of Iran, Pakistan, India, Oman and UAE as a potential source of tsunami hazard. According to historical data, the last reported MSZ generated tsunami which was triggered by the 1945CE earthquake of 8.1 (Mw) magnitude caused human fatality figures of up to almost 4,000, in addition to major structural devastation in its wake. Of particular interest, is the fate of existing breakwaters along the northern shorelines of the Gulf of Oman whose design criteria did not initially incorporate tsunami-related considerations, providing impetus for the modeling, design & analysis efforts presented in this article to serve the two-fold objective of assessing the need for strengthening existing structures, which are virtually all of the rubble-mound type, as well as deriving suitable design criteria for new breakwaters in the MSZ related tsunami affected region of Iran, earmarked for significant new developments.
