The first few hours on Greek soil are a fantastic and whirling jumble. Tumult is too feeble a word for the excited and inextricable chaos that is Peiraeus. The road thence to Athens must be at once the busiest and the worst in Greece. The main streets of the city are bedlam. Then suddenly, as a glimpse of the Parthenon is won, the mind skips the last twenty-four centuries and is lost to today. When it returns and you look about you, you might reasonably wonder where in time you are. The signs in the streets and the shops—ΟΔΟΣ ΤΡΙΠΟΔωΝ or ΑΡΤΟΠωΛΕΙΟΝ—are they ancient or modern? ‘All the Athenians … spent their time in nothing else but either to hear or to see some new thing.’ They live today, as they have always done, by talk and argument, be it over St. Paul's teaching or merely the price of a newspaper. Generations of foreign influence, Roman onwards, have left Greece unchanged, uncertain itself which century it is living in. The Unknown Soldier of modern war is represented by a dead hoplite, and beside him are written up two sentences from Thucydides.

This chapter features meditation theory from the perspective of Chan Buddhism. Simply known as Chan, or Zen in Japanese, it is regarded as the sinification of Indian Buddhism, especially of Indian dhyāna. There are three major periods of Chan in China. It started with Bodhidharma and his six major successors up to Huì Néng, the sixth patriarch. This period is known as the Pure Chan Period. Then followed the Chanji Era where five houses of Chan Buddhism branched out of Huì Néng’s revolutionary teaching and praxis. Huà tóu Chan and silent illumination are presented here as representatives of the Lín jì and Cáo dòng schools. Finally, the chapter examines Shēng-huó Chan as representative of the contemporary practice of Chan in China. The concept and practice of seated meditation in the Pure Chan Period was revolutionized by Huì Néng. He defined sitting as “having no thoughts arising in the mind when facing all circumstances, good or bad” and meditation as “seeing the innate nature of mind unmoved.” This distinctive conception marks Chan as the road to a pragmatic religious practice, both individual and interpersonal, in the midst of daily practices, lay or monastic. The inner logic behind the perplexing Chan encounters is the free flow of the mind at the “opportune-moment.” The rise of Shēng-huó Chan explores how classical Chan can be accommodated to contemporary life with an integral practice.

Attention in the physiological definition in one of several simultaneous occurrences of ideas takes ownership of the mind which means removing certain stuff to cope efficiently with others. Particular attention is required in driving in order to maintain track of the driver's vigilance to prevent the road accident. In this study, the driver's attention is analyzed by their driving performance from both the amplitude and accident rating of Electroencephalographic (EEG). The subjects were stimulated with radio talk, instrumental music and no sound (silent) in three separate recordings. It was found that drivers encounter much fewer accidents while listening to the radio talk compared to the music and worse driving score when driving in silence. This finding could be used as a foundation to develop tips or methodology to avoid the attention deficit while driving.

The  journalist task has shifted from the news transmitter to the news formator and instructor. It shows that in writing news, journalist adds various comment, opinion and review that are difficult to distinguish from the news itself. A journalist should have a variety of rights and obligations, namely to deliver news in accordance with fact without mixing opinion. This study aims to reveal and expose the hidden aspects behind an apparent reality. This research methodology uses a qualitative descriptive approach. A qualitative approach is a research procedure that produces descriptive data in the form of the phenomenon description contained in the data. The data collected is in the form of newspaper document. The result of study shows that there is finding regarding representation, namely association and metaphor. The association was appeared in the news of compass newspaper by journalist to bring assumption in the mind of public in interpreting a certain reality regarding the debate between Jokowi and Prabowo. Journalist brings up how Prabowo take an action against Jokowi which is marked by transitive sentence namely subject + verb + object. Bring up a general symptom or phenomenon that occurs in the society regarding the legislative candidate photo displayed along the road. The form of participant as victim or object can be known from the construction of passive sentence, or victim caused by other.

Pedestrian bridges are provided by the government to make it easier for pedestrians to cross over crowded roads. The phenomenon that occurs under the mind is used for motor crossings. Prepare the purpose of this study to determine the types of socio-economic communities for crossings in Banda Aceh City. The data retrieval method used was Stated Preference (SP) with 180 respondents taken randomly stratified (random sampling) with target of user and society respondents around pedestrian bridge. Processing and data analysis using descriptive statistics. The results of descriptive analysis of socio-economic characteristics of the public’s on the effectiveness of pedestrian bridges, the most dominant cause is the majority of male gender, aged 20-29 years old, primary, junior and senior high school, civil servant, private employee, self-employed, student, monthly income below 2 million rupiah, travel purpose for work / office, sales, cargo / freight, trader, school / college / study. Judging from the government policy in the application of pedestrian bridges, the result is that most people agree with the implementation of the pedestrian bridge in Banda Aceh City, and most respondents have also used pedestrian bridges to cross the road to the destination.

AbstractThe target article by Boyer & Petersen (B&P) contributes a vital message: that people have folk economic theories that shape their thoughts and behavior in the marketplace. This message is all the more important because, in the history of economic thought, Homo economicus was increasingly stripped of mental capacities. Intuitive theories can help restore the mind of Homo economicus.

Despite the considerable advances in molecular biology over the past several decades, the nature of the physical–chemical process by which inanimate matter become transformed into simplest life remains elusive. In this review, we describe recent advances in a relatively new area of chemistry, systems chemistry, which attempts to uncover the physical–chemical principles underlying that remarkable transformation. A significant development has been the discovery that within the space of chemical potentiality there exists a largely unexplored kinetic domain which could be termed dynamic kinetic chemistry. Our analysis suggests that all biological systems and associated sub-systems belong to this distinct domain, thereby facilitating the placement of biological systems within a coherent physical/chemical framework. That discovery offers new insights into the origin of life process, as well as opening the door toward the preparation of active materials able to self-heal, adapt to environmental changes, even communicate, mimicking what transpires routinely in the biological world. The road to simplest proto-life appears to be opening up.
