The following pages are based on the last six months of 1948 which the writer spent in England, France and Italy. During this period Marshall aid had begun to bear certain fruit. On the other hand the international situation, already bad at the opening of the period, had deteriorated cumulatively as time passed. The Berlin deadlock, a symbol of the will of East and West, continued as before; and not even the beginning of a solution was reached at the United Nations assembly in Paris in die autumn. All over Europe people were preoccupied widi the economic crisis; but also by the direat of a new war. A military committee composed of Great Britain, France and Benelux was formed in the autumn under the chairmanship of Marshal Montgomery. There remained problems about this committee's effectiveness as well as about the extent to which other proposals for Western union were practicable at present. While in each country in Western Europe common people and politicians are talking more about union than ever before, in practice separatist tendencies in each shrunken western nation are still at work and travel to, or independent contact with, neighboring countries is a far more difficult business today than it was in 1939.

The purpose of this article is to explore how the domains of turbulence scenario moderate the relationship between strategic information systems (IS) and firm performance (FP). This research conducts a quantitative survey-based study with partial least squares (PLS) technique employing a sample of 196 firms from different industries located in Brazil that operate under an uncertain environment during an economic crisis. The findings confirm the existence of strong effects in the relationship between strategic IS and firm performance. Essentially, this research further finds that this relationship (strategic IS -> FP) is particularly pronounced in uncertain hostile environments and in cases where GDP is strongly negative by three-way interaction. Thus, the research results helped organizations and managers understand SIS value in the strategy-as-practice approach to Brazilian environmental uncertainty.

The problem of pension financing in the system of mandatory pension insurance in the Republic of Serbia became actual after the great economic crisis of the 1990s, although this problem had been present before. Accordingly, considerable attention has been paid to the analysis of determinants of pension expenditures. Considering the fact that in the Republic of Serbia the possibilities for reducing expenditures in the system of mandatory state pension and disability insurance have already been exhausted by reforms so far, it is necessary to consider other measures and possibilities for changing the design of the pension disability system. Therefore, the subject of this paper is the analysis of the relationship between pension beneficiaries, the type and amount of pensions. The aim of the paper is to analyze the influence of the pension beneficiary and the type of pension on the amount of the pension, based on the analysis of the collected data.

The article contains an analysis of the dynamics and structure of the external debt of various countries and groups of countries in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. The authors conclude that at the beginning of 2021, the ratio of external debt to GDP almost reached the level that was noted on the eve of the global financial and economic crisis of 2008-2009. A trigger for a new global crisis may be the exacerbation of problems in one or more segments of the economy of the European Union, Great Britain, the United States, or a number of large developing countries.

This article examines the Scandinavian countries’ response to extreme political movements in the interwar period. Historians have considered the crisis agreements of the 1930s as pivotal to Scandinavian resistance to fascism. The present article revises this explanation by conducting a comparative empirical study of political practice and rhetoric. The comparison makes it clear that the socio-economic measures were primarily aimed at combating the economic crisis. However, the social democratic labour parties conceptualised their social and economic policy as a defence of democracy after Hitler seized power in Germany. The findings indicate that the social democratic solution to the depression in Scandinavia left no political space for either communism or fascism.
