The aim of this study was to examine Turkish Language teachers’ self-efficacy perceptions of teaching thinking skills in terms of the variables of age, professional experience, educational status, and taking course on thinking skills. The screening model was used in the study. The current pandemic process was taken into account and the convenience sampling method was used while determining the study group. Turkish Language teachers forming the study group consisted of 109 females and 68 males. “Teachers’ Self-efficacy towards teaching thinking scale” was used as the data collection tool. The data of the study were analyzed using the statistical package program. In conclusion, no significant difference was found between the Turkish Language teachers’ self-efficacy perceptions of teaching thinking skills and gender. It was concluded that Turkish Language teachers’ self-efficacy perceptions of teaching thinking skills differed according to professional experience. It was concluded that there was no significant difference between Turkish Language teachers’ self-efficacy perceptions of teaching thinking skills and their educational status. It was concluded that there was a significant difference between Turkish Language teachers’ self-efficacy perceptions of teaching thinking skills and taking course on thinking skills.

Through the university entrance exam taken once a year in Turkey, language, mathematics, science and social studies proficiencies of high school students and graduates are tested. The results of this exam demonstrate the individual achievement of students and in light of these results, the achievement of each school, which in terms of the curriculum evaluation. Based on the outcomes of university entrance exam, the achievement level of each region can also be evaluated. According to the 2012 university entrance exam results out of 81 cities in Turkey. Gaziantep was among the least successful, ranked number 76 in mathematics and Turkish Language test results. The city of Gaziantep is located in the Southeast Anatolia region. The latest PISA 2009 results show that among the OECD countries, Turkey is the last but third in the list after Chile and Mexico. Again, according to 2009 PISA results, the Southeast Anatolian region is at the bottom among the other regions of Turkey in terms of reading competencies. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the reading habits of the Turkish Language teachers working in elementary and secondary schools in Gaziantep because these teachers have great influence on the development of reading proficiency of students. To collect the data, a questionnaire based on the components of reading comprehension was given to 407 teachers working in elementary and secondary schools. The collected data were interpreted through percentages and Chi-Square. The result of the study shows that reading habits of teachers differ in accordance with the socio economic level and education level of teachers’ parents, socio economic level of parental education and socio economic level of the family, time devoted to reading-and level interpreting what is read. Children’s literature is the totality of spoken and written products formed with an aesthetic concern that contribute to the development, interests, needs, pleasure, emotions and ideas of individuals between the ages of 2–15. Defects and deficiencies that can be seen in the works of children’s literature—which directly contribute to the developmental fields and the talents of children regarding understanding and telling, comprehension and interpreting—will cause troubles to emerge when addressing to the aforementioned properties. This research aims to determine the views of Turkish language teachers regarding the power and efficiency of the children’s literature products and the acquisition of these properties. The research was conducted by employing a one-on-one interview according to a qualitative research approach. The study group participating in this research study comprised of 14 Turkish language teachers who work in Elazığ city center. A descriptive content analysis was used to evaluate the views of these Turkish teachers. Frequency and percentage distributions were then determined from these findings. The study findings show that the views of the participators regarding the efficiency of the children’s literature products resembled one another other in terms of different variables. Additionally, some views were determined regarding the need for including original works of art, cultural codes and more concretization.

Contrasting studies of foreign language teacher education have become a growing interest among educationists and researchers in different countries (Yoder, 1992; McKay & Montgomery, 1995; Baker & Giacchino-Baker, 2000; Stachowski & Sparks, 2007; Firmin, M. W., Firmin, R & MacKay, F. M., 2008; LaFond & Dogancay-Aktuna, 2009; Ozek, 2009). Such studies emphasize the importance of comparing and understanding different education programs and enables student teachers to think more globally with respect to their language career. These contrasting studies investigate different aspects of foreign language (FL) teaching programs. The present study reports a comparison of the student teachers of an American and Turkish university regarding their satisfaction and readiness in language teaching, and their attitudes towards language teaching theories and teacher education program. The study aims to discover the teacher trainees’ perceptions with an in-depth understanding and compare the differences among them. Therefore, the researcher employed an interconnection of qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires and interviews. The results indicated that there were some significant differences between the subjects in two groups regarding their readiness, their attitudes towards their education programs and their self-perceptions as teacher candidates.
