This chapter aims to encourage corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable tourism development in global tourism, thus describing the theoretical and practical concept of CSR; CSR and corporate financial performance (CFP); the overview of sustainable tourism development; the significance of CSR in global tourism; the significance of sustainable tourism development in global tourism; sustainable tourism development and stakeholders; and sustainable tourism development and environmental situations. The accomplishment of CSR and sustainable tourism development is vital for tourism businesses that seek to serve suppliers and customers, increase business performance, strengthen competitiveness, and attain regular success in global tourism. Thus, it is necessary for tourism businesses to encourage their CSR and sustainable tourism development toward satisfying customers' needs. The chapter argues that encouraging CSR and sustainable tourism development has the potential to enhance organizational performance and gain sustainable competitive advantage in global tourism.

PurposeThis study aims to analyze corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs in tourism as a tool for sustainable development in the CSR program of a multinational enterprise in Turkey.Design/methodology/approachThis study includes qualitative research on a single company, content analysis of company-originated documents, participant observations, questionnaires for tourism project coordinators and follow-up interviews with company directors and project managers.FindingsThe paper identifies immediate context variables, program management, the complementary nature of interests and the diverse capabilities of the partners and an ongoing evaluation process as the determining factors for creating shared value for CSR programs in tourism.Research limitations/implicationsDespite the challenges of impact assessment and measurement of long-term effects, the study proposes a systematic framework for evaluating shared value creation generated by CSR activity.Practical implicationsThe evaluation methodology introduced in this research will be of use to CSR program developers in interpreting and reporting on the anticipated outcomes and impacts of their interventions in sustainable tourism development.Social implicationsA lack of outcome evaluation and impact assessment may affect accountability and, hence, the legitimacy of CSR programs. This study attempts to mitigate that limitation by introducing a novel methodology.Originality/valueThe value of CSR in tourism is a highly contested issue, despite its high potential for contributing to sustainable development. This longitudinal research goes beyond presenting immediate outputs of a CSR program in sustainable tourism; it discusses intermediate outcomes in the form of capitals, community well-being and shared value for society at large.

Today in this world where corporations have assumed gigantic proportions in their use of all the resources for management, there is a clear threat of social exploitation. The social leaders as well as the business leaders are thus legally and morally obligated to sustain the society and also repay certain important ingredients which keep the society healthy and alive. This has given birth to the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR). The corporations are trying to make profit and at the same time discharge their social responsibilities. As a contemporary coincidence the tourism industry also has undergone similar transformation. Mass tourism which is marked as the main economic developer in the global business has also assumed diabolic proportions. It is tending to consume and destroy the very attractions and infrastructures on which the edifice of tourism industry stands. This situation has given birth to sustainable tourism. Sustainable Tourism has its roots in the concept of sustainable development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. In this article an effort has been made to showcase the striking similarities of CSR and sustainable tourism. In the global business context the future generations should practice responsibility and a sustainable form of tourism to save their respective businesses and planet earth.

Community empowerment has an important role in building sustainable tourism. One of the plans used for community empowerment in tourism areas is the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which involves the implementation and participation of the community in program activities. This study aims to define and describe community empowerment in tourism areas through the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a single embedded case study. The results of this study are: (1) CSR profile of Bank Jatim (East Java Bank), (2) tourism community empowerment based on the CSR program, (3) the implementation of CSR program in tourism area of Pancer Door Beach, and (4) the results of the tourism community empowerment in Pancer Door Beach from CSR program.

Traditional travel agencies and tour operators are recognized as relevant stakeholders in the tourism distribution chain, even though their role as transforming agents in the achievement of more sustainable tourism is beginning to be accepted. This document collects the main topics and the most recent approaches from the academic literature in its analysis of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices developed by these intermediaries. The work has been structured around six recurring themes in most of the studies carried out: the new intermediaries that operate on the Internet; the role of travel agencies and tour operators in tourism sustainability; the influence of the size of the company; CSR as a disruptive innovation in this sector; the potential of the sustainable tourism supply chain; and the motivations and attitudes of the managers of these businesses when they engage with responsibility. This last topic is developed in greater detail since it is closely linked to the previous ones and dictates in most cases the meaning and function of the sustainable performance.

Sustainable tourism refers to those tourism activities that respect the natural, cultural, and social environment and the values of a community, which allows it to enjoy a positive exchange of experiences between residents and visitors, where the relationship between the tourist and the community is fair and the benefits of the activity are evenly distributed, and where visitors have a truly participatory attitude in their travel experience. One of the main keys to sustainable tourism is the involvement of the visitors and the host and local community.
