The purpose of this study was to conduct psychometric testing on the Chinese version of the decisional balance scale (CDBS) with Taiwanese seventh, eighth, and ninth graders who were recruitedfrom the Taipei metropolitan area. A random cluster sampling method was used with 554 adolescents between the ages of 13 and 17 years. Factor analysis procedures showed two components, Pros and Cons, accounting for 74.32% of the total variances andcontrastedgroupcomparisonsaffirmedthe constructvalidityof the Pros, the Cons, andthe CDBS. Item-to-subtotalcorrelationcoefficients for the two subscales, the Pros and Cons, were greater than .50 and their reliability was supported by Cronbach's alpha coefficients, .87 and .91, respectively. The validity and reliability of the CDBS suggestedthat the CDBS was applicableto and congruentwith the culture of the Taiwanese adolescent's smoking behavior. Further validation of the CDBS scale with different populations and larger sample size is suggested.

Abstract Background The Trunk Impairment Scale (TIS) has been translated into Chinese, but the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the TIS (TIS-C) have not yet been established. We aimed to examine the reliability and validity of the TIS-C for assessing sitting balance among Chinese people with a stroke. Methods A descriptive, cross-sectional design was used. We recruited a convenience sample of 170 subacute stroke patients aged 18 years or over from the neurology departments of four traditional Chinese medicine hospitals in China. Patients completed the TIS-C, the Berg Balance Scale and the Modified Barthel Index. The psychometric properties of the TIS-C were examined to establish test–retest reliability, internal consistency, equivalence, and content, criterion, and construct validity. Results Intraclass correlation coefficients for inter-rater and intra-rater reliability ranged from 0.75 to 0.89 and from 0.90 to 0.97, respectively. The TIS-C Cronbach α was 0.86. The strong correlation between the total score of the TIS-C and the Berg Balance Scale (rs = 0.81, p < 0.001) or Modified Barthel Index (rs = 0.84, p < 0.001) suggested good concurrent and convergent validity, respectively. Known-group validity was supported by the significant difference (p < 0.001) in TIS-C scores between participants with mild and moderate stroke. Conclusions The TIS-C is a valid and reliable tool for assessing static and dynamic sitting balance as well as coordination of trunk movement among stroke survivors with mild and moderate stroke.

Background/objectives Several studies have indicated that stress is associated with common mental disorders, and work stress trebles the risk of developing them. However, a validated assessment tool for measuring and establishing psychological stress correlates in this group of clients remains unavailable. The objectives of the present study were to examine the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (CPSS-10) on people with common mental disorders with different employment statuses and explore its correlates. Methods Two hundred and fifty-two participants with common mental disorders were recruited. The data were analysed through exploratory factor and confirmatory analyses to investigate construct validity. The convergent and discriminant validities were examined based on their correlation with other measures, while the internal consistency was estimated using Cronbach’s α coefficient. A t-test was used to detect differences between groups. The CPSS-10 correlates were explored using multiple linear regression analysis. Results Principal component analysis with varimax rotation yielded two factors, which accounted for 63.82% of the total variance, while confirmatory factor analysis confirmed its factor structure. The CPSS-10 had a positively moderate to strong correlation with other measures, thereby indicating its acceptable convergent and discriminant validities. The internal consistency ranged from acceptable to good for the two subscales and ten overall items, while the item-total correlation was adequate except for the seventh item. There were no group differences in gender nor employment status. Finally, the CPSS-10 predictors were studied. Conclusion The CPSS-10 is a reliable and valid instrument for people with common mental disorders with different employment statuses.
