Traffic Management System (TMS) is a possible implementation of a Green IT application. It can have direct impact on reducing the greenhouse gases. The focus of this report is to illustrate how event driven SOA design principles can be applied in designing traffic management system. It also discusses how cloud computing concept can be used for TMS application. Traffic during peak hours is a problem in any major city where population growth far exceeds the infrastructure. Frequent stop and start of the cars on the heavy traffic roads and slow moving traffic causes greater fuel consumption, which results in greater emission of carbon gases. If efficient traffic management system can speed up the traffic average speed it will help reduce the carbon emission. As the WiMAX technology reaches maturity and achieves greater reliability and speed for wireless data transmissions new mobile applications are possible. Traffic Management System is one such example. WiMAX can facilitate communication to and from fast moving cars. WiMAX combined with GPS (Global Positioning System) technology can facilitate building an efficient traffic management system. The authors have also discussed various scenarios where Cloud computing technology can be utilised resulting in further optimisation of the computing resources and therefore reducing the carbon emission.

Deliberate exploitation of natural resources and excessive use of environmentally abhorrent materials have resulted in environmental disruptions threatening the life support systems. A human centric approach of development has already damaged nature to a large extent. This has attracted the attention of environmental specialists and policy makers. It has also led to discussions at various national and international conventions. The objective of protecting natural resources cannot be achieved without the involvement of professionals from multidisciplinary areas. This chapter recommends a model for the creation of knowledge-based systems for natural resources management. Further, it describes making use of unique capabilities of remote sensing satellites for conserving natural resources and managing natural disasters. It is exclusively for the people who are not familiar with the technology and who are given the task of framing policies.

The research identifies the gap that there is a convergence of interoperability of Cloud Computing (CC), Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Enterprise Architecture (EA). Furthermore, it outlines the existing non dynamic links between EA and SOA that are currently practiced in the industry and confirmed by scholarly articles; and provides a state of art of the link that could exist in practice between cloud computing and SOA as researched from the published scholarly material. This researched paper also refers to the planned research to test this theory first by developing a logical architectural model of such a feasibility followed by a Proof of Concept

In this study, starting from the elastic optical network, the layered and function isolated service-oriented architecture (SOA) is introduced, so as to propose an elastic optical network SOA for cloud computing, and further study the resource mapping of optical network. Linear mapping model, random routing mapping algorithm, load balancing mapping algorithm and link separation mapping algorithm are introduced respectively, and the resource utilization effect of different mapping algorithms for the proposed optical network is compared. During the experiment, firstly, the elastic optical network is tested. It is found that the node utilization and spectrum utilization of the underlying optical fiber level network are significantly improved. Within the average service time of 0.312 s∼0.416 s, the corresponding node utilization and spectrum utilization are 90% and 80% respectively. In the resource mapping experiment, load balancing algorithm and link separation algorithm can effectively improve the mapping success rate of services. Among them, the link separation mapping algorithm can improve the spectrum resource utilization of optical network by 15.6%. The elastic optical network SOA proposed in this study is helpful to improve the use of network resources.

Opportunities for improving IT efficiency and performance through centralization of resources have increased dramatically in the past few years with the maturation of technologies, such as service oriented architecture, virtualization, grid computing, and management automation. A natural outcome of this is what has become increasingly referred to as cloud computing, where a consumer of computational capabilities sets up or makes use of computing in the cloud network in a self service manner. Cloud computing is evolving, and enterprises are setting up cloud-like, centralized shared infrastructures with automated capacity adjustment that internal departmental customers utilize in a self service manner. Cloud computing promises to speed application deployment, increase innovation, and lower costs all while increasing business agility. This paper discusses the various architectural strategies for clean and green cloud computing. It suggests a variety of ways to take advantage of cloud applications and help identify key issues to figure out the best approach for research and business.

Cloud computing has emerged as a powerful new technology. The processing and computation power embedded in the cloud technology is not only flexible but also infinitely scalable and cost effective. Service oriented architecture (SOA) is a perfect stage for cloud computing. Developing and maintaining Digital Libraries requires substantial investments that are not simply a matter of technological decisions but also organizational issues. While digital libraries hold plenty of promise both now and for the future, they have been slow in taking off. Some digital libraries have either been completely abandoned or they have been put on hold indefinitely. One of the reasons for this predicament is that developers of digital libraries have approached their implementation the same traditional way of building applications, which is also akin to how structures of physical information organizations are built. Digital Libraries with their universal functionality may be even more flexible and reusable, if designed in a service-oriented manner. Such design should allow decreasing the effort of the creation of new digital libraries and the maintenance and scaling of currently existing large installations. Service-oriented architecture offers a better approach to building digital libraries, including streamlining business components, employing reusable services and connecting existing applications to communicate efficiently. The SOA is still a fairly new concept in DL systems. This chapter investigates the applicability of SOA as a fundamental architecture within the system. Its objective is to design a Service-Oriented Architecture for Digital Library System (DLS) using Web Service technology. SORADLS includes different layers which provide primitive services to the library applications built on top of the DLS. DLS techniques of personalization, alert, and caching build SORADLS as services. This architecture provides a fast, safe, convenient, and efficient service to users connected through the Internet.

Implementing Single Sign-On (SSO) in a Cloud space for a spectrum of services and applications is an interesting research avenue for scientific communities in the field of secure identity and access management for Cloud Computing. Using an SSO implementation, in the backend, users can navigate any or all of the supported applications or resources without the need to repeatedly provide credentials. In this chapter, the authors present an efficient and robust Cloud Single Sign-On Architecture (CSSOA) model based on a token security mechanism. Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs) are one of the enabling technologies for solving complex service oriented real world challenges, and hence, CSSOA has been implemented using SOAs. In the authors’ CSSOA model, a CSSO SOAP authentication service is distributed among the Cloud servers while the CSSO database service is centralized.
