In terms of geology, most areas in south of the Gunungkidul District in Central Java consist of the Wonosari formation limestone. The land is generally very dry and source of raw water is also difficult to reach. Findings on the existence of underground river in caves, however, indicate the potential amount of water within the area, especially in the eastern part of the Gunungkidul District. Although limited information available, some fishermen have discovered that Seropan cave contains fresh water source. This cave is situated at 65 m below the cliff. Initial exploration, which done using a multichannel resistivity method, confirmed the availability of freshwater in the cave and underground river. The isopach of cave depth is found in ranges of 80 200 m below the ground surface. The water of Seropan cave can be utilized by implementing pipeline or by drilling at the suggested point based on the interpretation results, i.e. 110o2223.6388 EL 8o42.874 SL. The protection of the environment and people’s health from negative influences of the pollution of air as a medium of the environment requires constant observing of the air quality in accordance with international standards, the analysis of emission and imission of polluting matters in the air, and their connection with the sources of pollution. Having in mind the series of laws and delegated legislations which define the field of air pollution, it is necessary to closely observe these long-term processes, discovering cause-and-effect relationships between the activities of anthropogenic sources of emission of polluting matters and the level of air degradation. The relevant evaluation of the air quality of a certain area can be conducted if the level of concentration of polluting matters characteristic for the pollution sources of this area is observed in a longer period of time. The data obtained by the observation of the air pollution are the basis for creation of the recovery program of a certain area. Vranje is a town in South Serbia where there is a bigger number of anthropogenic pollution sources that can significantly diminish the air quality. The cause-and-effect relationship of the anthropogenic sources of pollution is conducted related to the analysis of systematized data which are in the relevant data base of the authorized institution The Institute of Public Health Vranje, for the time period between the year of 2012. and 2017. By the analysis of data of imission concentrations of typical polluting matters, the dominant polluting matters were determined on the territory of the town of Vranje, the ones that are the causers of the biggest air pollution and the risk for people’s health. Analysis of the concentration of soot, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides indicates their presence in the air of Vranje town area in concentrations that do not exceed the permitted limit values annually. The greatest pollution is caused by the soot content in the air, especially in the winter period when the highest number of days with the values above the limit was registered. By perceiving the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors, it is clear that the concentration of polluting matters can be decreased only by establishing control over anthropogenic sources of pollution, and thus it can be contributed to the improvement of the air quality of this urban environment.

The main objective of the current research is to determine the content of heavy metals from the Bistrita and Siret River banks, respectively Siret River � in Bridge Holt area, Siret River � canal UHE and Siret River- downstream confluence Bistrita/Siret. The choice of sampling points took into consideration the areas where the pollution sources are located. Established maximum values were not exceeded in the case of mercury in the soil for all three sampling points Siret River � in Bridge Holt area, Siret River � canal UHE and Siret River- downstream confluence Bistrita/Siret. Exceeding values recorded in the sampling points Siret River � in Bridge Holt area, Siret River � canal UHE and Siret River- downstream confluence Bistrita/Siret (for cadmium, nickel and chrome) resulted from discharged residual waters, industrial platforms form Bacau city and the improper storage of municipal waste.

Abstract In urbanized geotechnical systems (UGSs), the majority of problems related to the ecological hydrochemistry of Cd, Pb, Ni and other heavy metals are the result of emergent characteristics of a system as a whole as opposed to individual pollution sources. In petrochemical UGSs, pollution of the environment from compounds containing methylating or alkylating agents results in an increase in the mobility of Cd, Pb, Ni, Cr and As. This process is controlled by environmental and microclimatic factors rather than by pollution sources. Under conditions of predominant dust and element effects, geo-chemically paradoxical associations of Cd with Ni, Mn and Cr can be formed in the main life support media in mining and metallurgical UGSs. Uncontrolled processes of hydrochemical interactions take place in complex multifunctional UGSs, leading to a change in speciation of heavy metals, particularly cadmium. This report is part of a 5-year study of the geotechnical systems in the Urals.

Runoff loads of pollutant in agricultural watersheds were spatially analyzed by using geographic information system(GIS) technology. The topological relationship between pollution sources in the watershed was, first of all, identified by using the developed digital map of land use and then the pollutant loads generated from each source was estimated by applying a conventional unit loading factor on the obtained digital information of pollution sources. To evaluate the loads delivered from spatially distributed pollution sources to monitoring stations in down stream via surface of watershed, a renovated empirical model incorporated with the information of pollutant discharge path was developed through introducing a digital terrain model(DTM) technique. In this model, the function of degradation of pollution loads during delivery process was simplified so that each watershed could have a basin-wide self-purification capacity which would be considered to be possessed inherently in each watershed and could retard the discharge of pollutants from sources generated to stream water. Model credibility showed good consistency with comparing the simulated values with observed data. Monte Carlo optimizing technique made it possible to estimate the basin-wide self-purification coefficients.
