Abstract Sky-scrapers are rising in the panorama of big modern cities more and more often, becoming a symbol of dynamic growth and prestige. High-rise development appears to be an answer to the expanding demand for new residential and commercial space as urban land prices continue to go up and the availability of land decreases. This article aims to identify factors affecting the choice of optimal building height in the context of economic effectiveness. It also presents factors that determine the implementation of high-rise development projects. Given the complexity of this subject matter, emphasis is placed on its economic dimension.

Smart cities are not a new phenomenon and it is an interdisciplinary definition that became a popular labeling for modern cities. However, there a is surprisingly little academic research in urban design and planning field that discusses this phenomenon. Smart cities definition is similar to intelligent, creative, sustainable or liveable cities which appears to be considered as a part of a play with words. In most of the technological and social science articles smart cities refer to a smart urban management and development via technologies and infrastructure. Based on the scientific literature overview, there are several factors affecting the city smartness, such as technology, people and communities, economy governance, planning and infrastructure. Overall there is a little information and research on urban design principles and tools in the smart city’s creation and contribution to its smartness. The most important thing is to clarify the urban design, planning and landscape design role importance to a smart city context and vice versa. The aim of this paper is to overview the smart cities concept from urban design perspective to find and highlight the important touch points, relation and role of urban design, planning and landscape design in smart cities creation. This would lead to the robust principles for smart European cities that would enable to achieve sustainable development, efficient urban growth and a better urban landscape.

The question that has to be answered in high-rise building is glazing and its service life conditions. Contemporary market offers several types of window units, for instance, wooden, aluminum, PVC and combined models. Wooden and PVC windows become the most widespread and competitive between each other. In recent times design engineers choose smart glass. In this article, the advantages and drawbacks of all types of windows are reviewed, and the recommendations are given according to choice of window type in order to improve energy efficiency of buildings.

Understanding the factors driving the implementation of energy efficiency measures in compressed air systems is crucial to improve industrial energy efficiency, given their low implementation rate. Starting from a thorough review of the literature, it is thus clear the need to support companies in the decision-making process by offering an innovative framework encompassing the most relevant factors to be considered when adopting energy efficiency measures in compressed air systems, inclusive of the impacts on the production resources and the operations of a company. The framework, designed following the perspective of the industrial decision-makers, has been validated, both theoretically and empirically, and preliminarily applied to a heterogeneous cluster of manufacturing industries. Results show that, beside operational, energetic, and economic factors, in particular contextual factors such as complexity, compatibility, and observability may highlight critical features of energy efficiency measures whose absence may change the outcome of a decision-making process. Further, greater awareness and knowledge over the important factors given by the implementation of the framework could play an important role in fostering the implementation of energy efficiency measures in compressed air systems. The paper concludes with further research avenues to further promote energy efficiency and sustainability oriented practices in the industrial sector.

This paper introduced the development and research advance of the submersible pushing-flow agitator for sewage treatment at home and abroad. By analyzing four factors affecting the energy efficiency of the submersible pushing-flow agitator, the energy efficiency evaluation method and calculation formula of the submersible pushing-flow agitator for sewage treatment in China are analyzed and discussed in this paper.

A large number of split-type air conditioner are widely used in high-rise residential or office buildings in China and the outdoor units of air-conditioner are often installed at the sidewalls or on the roofs in the confined space of a high-rise building. The factors affecting the performance of air-conditioner are the solar radiation, the heat released from the outdoor units, the ventilation of the confined installation space of a building where the outdoor units are installed and so on, which are investigated in this study. The air flow and temperature distribution under steady-state condition near the two outdoor units installed on the same storey in a building are simulated by software FLUENT, in which the porous model and DO radiation model are used. The optimum installation distance from the supporting wall is obtained. The average temperature of the exit surface without wind is 1.18% more than that with wind. The results show that the heat released from the outdoor units and the ventilation of the confined installation space where the outdoor units are installed are the main factors affecting the thermal environment in the confined installation space; The influence of the solar radiation can be neglected.

The current questions of prospects of modern cities development are viewed in the light of steady growth of population and urbanization connected with enhancement of cities role in social development. The problem of urban densification and the prospectivity of large cities vertical growth are considered. China practice is analyzed because this state is acknowledged global leader in the matter of high-rise building and its achievements can be useful for the Russian Federation. The article concerns activities of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) researching high-rise building. Modern approaches to highrise buildings typology are examined, their main point is defined as mini-city in city.

Firstly, this paper analyzed the factors affecting high-rise building fire safety in terms of the aspects of staff awareness, high-rise building fire design, fire-fighting facilities, daily management, and technology and so on. Secondly, on this basis, I determined the flow graph model and variables, and constructed high-rise building fire safety simulation model. Finally, a high-rise building was used to verify the applicability of the model. The findings have developed a clear direction in order to strengthen the management and formulation of high-rise building fire safety.
