This chapter explores the often ignored interactions of foreigners with Yemen. Rather than a secluded society, Yemen is shaped by its many relations with foreign travelers, Asian and African communities, foreign students who study in Islamic and language institutes and Western diplomats and engineers. The interactions that are developed are often fascinating as they are characterized by complex and often ambiguous emotions.

Abstract Articulating and implementing national development plans (ndp s) has been a popular approach taken by most governments in the world in response to the opportunities and challenges occurring in domestic and international spheres. Since the 2000s the Taiwanese government has launched a series of ndp s with different goals, foci, and tactical approaches. This paper adopts a retrospective lens to examine how English language education has been strategically situated in the ndp s of Taiwan and reflects on both the alignments and misalignments between the unveiled goals of the ndp s and the policies pertaining to English language education of the nation over the last two decades. In the pursuit of the goals of the contemporary ndp of the nation, strategic remodelling of teacher education programmes is needed through: (1) expanding bilingual/all-English programmes within departments; (2) advocating departmental interaction within/across teacher training institutes; and (3) optimising training and teaching opportunities for foreign students.

The article assesses the export potential of Russian and Turkish universities. The influx of foreign citizens to study at universities is the most important quality criterion for the country’s higher education system. It is also an indicator of the country’s integration into the world community and a major export item. The leaders in the number of students from other countries have traditionally been the United States, Great Britain, France, the USSR, and Germany. At the turn of XX — XXI centuries. a significant increase in foreign students is observed in Australia, Japan, China. Other countries are also taking steps to improve the national higher education system and, accordingly, increase the number of foreign students. But attempts to penetrate the world market of educational services are significantly complicated, the market is already thoroughly divided, and the states that have long been entrenched in it are not going to allow new players to enter it. This process is also taking place in Turkey, which is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

The current situation in the world involves changes and corrections to the existing rules for studying. The transition to online lessons has formed a complex configuration: on the one hand – the technical side with many opportunities, on the other hand – tactics and learning strategies that need to be adjusted and synchronized according to the requirements and capabilities of online learning systems, platforms and programs. The objectives of the article do not include the description and comparison of such virtual learning platforms as, for example, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, but it is impossible not to mention them, because such platforms are modern tools for online learning and need to be used. The article highlights various nuances of teaching methods. In the real audience, the learning process is somewhat different, other systems are involved in communication, in the understanding between students and teachers, in control. I would like to emphasize that we are talking about teaching Ukrainian to foreign students of the preparatory department, about groups where there are students of different nationalities, religions, ages, basic training, as well as different temperaments, interests, life circumstances, and often such groups have no common intermediary languages. Therefore, it is necessary to rely on psychological, psycholinguistic, neurophysiological factors and taking its into account, it is possible to improve the speech, communicative, cognitive competence of students, increase the quality of learning. As for online learning, competencies develop very heterogeneously, depending on the physiological characteristics of the mind and memory, as well as on how honestly and responsibly students perform an independent part of the work. Understanding, working out and mastering different blocks of material takes more time, so it is important to rely on the conclusions of psychologists. Here the teacher's observation of the peculiarities of students' perception and timely influence on various factors, for example, on the motivation to study the material, curiosity, plays an important role. To improve the results in the development of the educational complex, the use of mnemonic techniques and technologies is suggested.

Abstract The object of this research is the activity of 25 leading research universities in the world. One of the most problematic issues is the in-depth analysis of the ranking indicators of world-class research universities in order to identify the priorities for the development of research universities in the European Union. The following scientific methods were used in the research: generalizations, analysis, synthesis, graphical method, and also comparison method. The study is based on data on the global university rankings in QS World University Rankings 2018 and empirical data from publicly available sources provided by the research universities. The article also systematizes the scientific views of the leading scientists of Europe and the world on the course of development of research universities and analyses the experience of implementing joint scientific projects in the EU countries. The importance of international cooperation between research universities in the fields of academic mobility and scientific research is underlined due to the fact that the global challenges and prospects that the research universities in the European Union and the world are facing are transient and create a tough competitive environment. Strengthening their leadership potential and developing entrepreneurial thinking has been revealed as a modern trend in the development of research universities. The article characterizes the 25 best world-class research universities, and the factors which have enabled them to uncover their strengths and systematize the key areas of in-depth specialization. The contrasting differences between the analysed research universities are shown, as there are significant disparities in the total number of students, foreign students and staff of research universities, showing fundamentally different approaches to the organization of educational and research processes, even within a single country. This is due to the fact that the ratio of student per staff representative significantly affects the quality of education. The author proposes the key development priorities for research universities in the European Union, which consist in intensified work on: academic reputation; the number of foreign students; reputation of employers; improvement of the ratio of the number of students to the number of staff; improvement of quality and increase in the number of citations of scientific publications by university researchers; increasing the share of the university’s participation in international educational and scientific networks of other countries and continents.

The article deals with the peculiarities of the teaching of the discipline "Medical and Biological Physics" to foreign students in the English language of the highest state educational institution of Ukraine "Bukovinsky State Medical University".
