Obesity is considered as a public health problem that affects all age groups in the population. Genetic factors are considered as one of the non-modifiable risk factors, causing obesity. Hypertension is a chronic medical condition that is associated with vague symptoms. The ABO blood type is one of the fundamental genetic factors that can give important information for early detection of risky population. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of different blood groups on body mass index and blood pressure. The design of this study is a cross-sectional study, included 250 participants (144 males and 106 females), aged between 18-70 years were selected from the population of Al-Najaf Governorate, Iraq, through a period which extends from October 2019 to February 2020.  The blood groups were determined for each participant; blood pressure and body mass index were also measured. The results of a current study revealed that from this 250 participants there was 115 were obese person, 82 were overweight person, 51 were normal weight, and 2 were underweight persons. In the obese group, the blood group B has the highest percentage (45.2% ) followed by blood group A and O that were found to have the same percentage (22.6%), while the blood group AB has the lower percentage (9.6%). On the other hand, there was no significant relationship between hypertension and ABO blood groups.

Specific ABO blood type was reported to the higher risk of having overweight and obesity. The laters had also been suggested to correlate to blood pressure. Here we studied blood type and blood pressure amongst seemingly healthy university students of IIKBW, Kediri to understand their correlations to the body mass index (BMI). The blood typing (ABO typing, Eryclone®) and blood pressure (automated digital sphygmomanometer) of 74 male and 76 female were measured in duplicate accordingly. The BMI was analysed from the student’s body weight and height using a digital balance and a microtoise staturemeter, respectively. Data were analysed using SPSS 17 with p<0.05 level of significance. There were 18.7% students have A blood type, 31.3% students were B type, 44% were O and 6.0% with AB blood type. There were 30.7% students with obesity, 18% overweight, 36% normal weight and 15.3% underweight. There were 4.7% had a hypertension, 28.7% pre-hypertension, and 66.7% were normal. No significant correlations found between BMI or the blood pressure to any specific ABO blood type, except between the blood pressure and the AB blood type (r=-0.179, p=0.03). However, there was a significant correlation between BMI and blood pressure (r=0.327, p=0.000). We observed no significant associations between any specific ABO blood type with the BMI and blood pressure. However, high blood pressures amongst students with obesity were found. Males were more common to suffer from obesity and high blood pressure than females.

BACKGROUND: Increased coverage antenatal care (ANC) occurring in developing countries do not guarantee the success of the ANC, it is because a high rate of maternal and neonatal mortality associated with inadequate and poor quality of maternal care, including ANC. AIM: This study aimed to find out the differences in the quality of ANC in rural and urban primary health centers in Jeneponto Regency. METHODS: This research aims to determine the different quality of ANC at urban and rural puskesmas (public health center), Jeneponto regency. The type of the research was observational analysis with cross-sectional design. There were 139 fixed samples of rural and urban pregnant women visiting the puskesmas, from October 2015 to May 2016. The samples were selected using stratified random sampling method from two puskesmas of each area. RESULTS: The results indicate that 52.6% of ANC quality is categorized bad. There is different ANC quality based on body weight, the height of fundus uteri, and administration of Fe tablet (0.038, 0.029, and 0.006). There is no difference of antenatal quality based on body height, LILA, fetus’ heartbeat, fetus presentation, blood type and Hb, and immunization of TT (0.068, 0.501, 1.000, 1.000, 0.133, 0263, and 0530). Blood pressure is not analyzed. CONCLUSION: There are three components that show differences in rural and urban health centers, namely, weight measurement, fundal height measurement, and FE tablet administration. As for the components of height measurement, assessment of nutritional status (MUAC), fetal presentation, examination of fetal heart rate, administration of TT immunization, and examination of blood type and hemoglobin. The component of blood pressure measurement was not included in the statistical test because all respondents received the examination.

The Corona Virus-19 (Covid-19) outbreak in Indonesia has caused many problems including blood supply which will be significantly affected by decreasing the amount of blood donated. The Blood Transfusion Unit (UTD) must be ready to move quickly in response to the changes that occur, where an adequate blood supply is most likely to be affected. Purpose: to encourage the community of Partners to become voluntary blood donors so that they can help residents in keeping the availability of blood safe during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Methods: cadres from members of Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) Sungapan, Sriharjo, Imogiri, Bantul, were trained to carry out initial donor selection examinations including blood pressure checks, hemoglobin level checks, blood type checks and doing it independently so that it can increase the role of voluntary blood donors. This outreach activity is to educate the community to form a cadre of PKK mothers to be trained in conducting initial donor selection checks so that data can be used as a means of obtaining voluntary donors in Mitra areas and creating independent blood donor villages. Conclusion: PKK cadres have been able to provide counseling to residents and are able to check blood pressure, hemoglobin levels and blood type keywords: cadre, blood donation village
