We analyse a simple random process in which a token is moved in the interval A = {0, . . ., n}. Fix a probability distribution μ over D = {1, . . ., n}. Initially, the token is placed in a random position in A. In round t, a random step sized is chosen according to μ. If the token is in position x ≥ d, then it is moved to position x − d. Otherwise it stays put. Let TX be the number of rounds until the token reaches position 0. We show tight bounds for the expectation Eμ(TX) of TX for varying distributions μ. More precisely, we show that $\min_\mu\{\E_\mu(T_X)\}=\Theta\bigl((\log n)^2\bigr)$. The same bounds are proved for the analogous continuous process, where step sizes and token positions are real values in [0, n + 1), and one measures the time until the token has reached a point in [0, 1). For the proofs, a novel potential function argument is introduced. The research is motivated by the problem of approximating the minimum of a continuous function over [0, 1] with a ‘blind’ optimization strategy.

Potential function methods are a family of non-parametric probabilistic techniques that estimate a probability density distribution of a class of interest as a sum of contributions from each single sample of the class. The resulting estimated overall probability distribution can be sectioned at different confidence levels, with isoprobability contours representing the boundaries of the class space at each confidence level. Boundaries of the class spaces can be very complex, capable of effectively describing non-normal and non-uniform sample distributions.

This paper presents a mathematical model that provides analytic connection between four fundamental forces (interactions), by using modified reciprocal theorem, derived in the paper, as a convenient template. The essential premise of this work is to demonstrate that if we obtain with a form of the Yukawa potential function [as a meromorphic univalent function], we may eventually obtain the Coloumb Potential as a univalent function outside of the unit disk. Finally, we introduce the new problem statement about assigning Meijer's G-functions to Yukawa and Coloumb potentials as an open problem.

AbstractAssessment of several noise indicators are determined by the logarithmic mean <img src="/fulltext-image.asp?format=htmlnonpaginated&src=P42524002G141TV8_html\05_paper.gif" alt=""/>, from the sum of independent random resultsL1;L2; : : : ;Lnof the sound level, being under testing. The estimation of uncertainty of such averaging requires knowledge of probability distribution of the function form of their calculations. The developed solution, leading to the recurrent determination of the probability distribution function for the estimation of the mean value of noise levels and its variance, is shown in this paper.

This work describes a general energy functional formulation of a polarizable embedding QM/MM scheme, as well as an implementation where a real-space Grid-based Projector Augmented Wave (GPAW) DFT method is coupled with a potential function for H2O based on a Single Center Multipole Expansion (SCME) of the electrostatics, including anisotropic dipole and quadrupole polarizability.

This article assesses the wind speed data and wind energy potential in the Bukhara region of Uzbekistan. In article it is stated a principle construction "hybrid" a source of the electric power consisting from wind power installation with mechanical store of energy, the solar panel with аккумулятор in common working with an electric network. The speed and direction of the wind measured at a height of 10 m were analyzed by the Weibull probability distribution functionTo determine the direction of wind flow (wind rose), a graph in Matlab environment was constructed. The method of an estimation energy of efficiency of the objects eating from several energy sources is offered. It is proved efficiency of application of such source of the electric power low power consumers
