Four psychoanalytic consultants, each utilizing one the most prevalent theoretical orientations used in the field of psychoanalytic consulting are asked to explain why a consultation succeeded. Using differing theories the four psychoanalysts reach the same conclusion. They conclude the consultation succeeded because of the consultants ability to manage and benefit from the intense transference reactions of the organization’s staff. These analysts suggest that the work of psychoanalytic consulting may be much more similar to the work of clinical psychoanalysis than previously assumed and that the key to understanding why a consultation succeeds or fails can be found in the analysis of the transferences in the relationship between the consultant and consultees.

This article presents theoretical orientations and practical applications for the assessment of d/Deaf and hard of hearing (d/Dhh) children. It discusses current approaches to assessment and the factors affecting d/Dhh children’s participation in assessments using those approaches. Gaps in the field around access to appropriate assessments are discussed. This review also shares information on the relationship between the purpose of the assessment and the approach selected. Basic considerations for both d/Deaf and hard of hearing multilingual learners (d/DMLs) and d/Dhh children with additional disabilities will be addressed. Finally, general recommendations are made for research and practice.

The basic presupposition of the paper in that pedagogy has not founded its methodologycal specificity in defining the problem of the educational value of labour; furzhermore, that even those rare theoretical elaborations of the problem of the educational values of labour fail to recognize the pedagogical implications of the results obtained by research carried out in sociological and psychological studies. On the basis of results obtained by inquiries into the relationship towards labour, the author lays down the practical - pedagogical implications for the theoretical analysis of the educational value of labour in pedagogy; 1) the results of the investigation of the relationship towards labour give us an insight into the effectiveness of the principles involved in the transformation of the school system, 2) it frees itself of those theoretical orientations which look upon labour as "life's greatest need” or, contrary to this, as an aliented activity, 3) a list of concrete examples evincing that the egalitarian conceptions cannot be realized in the sectors of labour and education as part of the post - socialist developments in Croatia and 4) a different valorization of the educational value of labour presupposes the acceptance of the dominant value orientations towards labour as the basis for elaborating a new educational policy.

This chapter turns to the question of environment and democracy. It takes up two themes in environmental political thought: ecological citizenship and environmental democracy. Not only are these interrelated theoretical orientations advanced by environmental political theorists to counter the kinds of technocratic eco-authoritarianism discussed in the two previous chapters, they are presented as essential foundations of a sustainable way of life. The future of democratic governance in view of the climate crisis is thus seen to depend on the viability of the environmental democratic challenge. The discussion supports the premises of environmental democracy, but points to a pressing need to give more attention to the relationship of this theory to the realities of political power and the limited time frame now available for achieving such a challenging societal eco-transformation. The chapter approaches this through an examination of the literature on deliberative environmental democracy, ecological citizenship, citizen juries, and deliberative systems.

In this study the aim was to take a deeper look at the various theories that underpin the programmes for preventing drug addiction so as to analyse the different variables that enable us to understand why some people consume drugs and others do not. The factors that facilitate consumption and non-consumption were examined to discover suitable preventive strategies that lead to a drop in consumption or prevent it from taking place. The study also refers to the psychosocial traits of adolescence, a particularly difficult stage, and one that people see as a significant period of risk. The framework informing such preventive counselling is based on health education. The methodology used entailed the search and literature review of scientific research projects and various theoretical orientations, through which it was possible to show the relationship between the aetiology of consumption and its consequences.

This two-part article suggests ingredients in the therapy relationship that are common to all interventions. It then examines similarities and differences in how the relationship works within the three dominant approaches to therapy. The overall aim of the article is to restimulate research and theory on the relationship. The first part defines the relationship and proposes three components to all therapeutic relationships: a working alliance, a transference configuration, and a real relationship. Five propositions are offered about the operation of each component within and across theoretical orientations. The second part examines how views of the relationship in perspectives broadly labeled psychoanalytic, humanistic, and learning vary according to three theoretical dimensions: the centrality, real-unreal, and means-end dimensions. Central research findings are reviewed for each theoretical perspective, the current state of research is examined for each, and suggestions are offered for future directions.

A review is given of information on the galactic-centre region obtained from recent observations of the 21-cm line from neutral hydrogen, the 18-cm group of OH lines, a hydrogen recombination line at 6 cm wavelength, and the continuum emission from ionized hydrogen. Both inward and outward motions are important in this region, in addition to rotation. Several types of observation indicate the presence of material in features inclined to the galactic plane. The relationship between the H and OH concentrations is not yet clear, but a rough picture of the central region can be proposed.

The Mesozoic-Cenozoic coral Order Scleractinia has been suggested to have originated or evolved (1) by direct descent from the Paleozoic Order Rugosa or (2) by the development of a skeleton in members of one of the anemone groups that probably have existed throughout Phanerozoic time. In spite of much work on the subject, advocates of the direct descent hypothesis have failed to find convincing evidence of this relationship. Critical points are:(1) Rugosan septal insertion is serial; Scleractinian insertion is cyclic; no intermediate stages have been demonstrated. Apparent intermediates are Scleractinia having bilateral cyclic insertion or teratological Rugosa.(2) There is convincing evidence that the skeletons of many Rugosa were calcitic and none are known to be or to have been aragonitic. In contrast, the skeletons of all living Scleractinia are aragonitic and there is evidence that fossil Scleractinia were aragonitic also. The mineralogic difference is almost certainly due to intrinsic biologic factors.(3) No early Triassic corals of either group are known. This fact is not compelling (by itself) but is important in connection with points 1 and 2, because, given direct descent, both changes took place during this only stage in the history of the two groups in which there are no known corals.

Abstract This commentary focuses upon the relationship between two themes in the target article: the ways in which a Markov blanket may be defined and the role of precision and salience in mediating the interactions between what is internal and external to a system. These each rest upon the different perspectives we might take while “choosing” a Markov blanket.
