PurposeThe purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of coffee quality on brand preference and loyalty using Starbucks as a study subject. The determinants of coffee food healthiness are also investigated.Design/methodology/approachFood quality measures are composed of healthiness, taste, customization, price fairness and convenience. Hygiene and nutrition disclosure were examined as determinants of food healthiness. The highlighted food quality attributes were brand love and brand loyalty. Data were collected using Amazon Mechanical Turk. A total of 431 observations were used for data analysis. A structural equation model was conducted for hypotheses testing.FindingsThe results revealed that healthiness is positively associated with hygiene and nutrition disclosure. Brand love is also significantly influenced by healthiness, taste, customization and price fairness. Moreover, taste and price fairness appeared to be essential determinants of Starbucks brand loyalty.Originality/valueThis study scrutinized food quality in the domain of coffee business, and presented implications for the business. Data collected in this study contributed to the literature by revealing quality attributes of coffee and its determinants and also showing the significant relationship between coffee food quality, brand love and brand loyalty.

Purpose Brand “Likes” on Facebook facilitate self-expression, forming part of consumers’ virtual selves. Yet, consumers’ brand “Likes” may bear little resemblance to their material realities. This paper aims to test similarities of brand image with self-image for Facebook “Likes” to determine whether self-congruence with a “Liked” brand leads to positive offline brand outcomes. It also investigates whether consumers’ perceptions about their Facebook social relations influence self-congruent brand “Likes”. Design/methodology/approach A large-scale survey was conducted of regular Facebook users who “Liked” brands. Data from 438 respondents was analysed and hypotheses tested using structural equation modeling. Findings Empirical results show that the perceived self-congruence with a “Liked” brand increases with social tie strength. Perceived social tie strength is informed by perceived attitude homophily. When the perceived self-congruence with a “Liked” brand is higher, brand love and word of mouth (WOM) are enhanced. Consumers also have greater brand loyalty and offer more WOM when brands are loved. Research limitations/implications Findings demonstrate the influence of consumers’ cognitive network on “Likes” and brand outcomes. Further replication would enhance generalisability. Future research should use a wider sample and investigate other variables. Practical implications Findings support managers seeking to grow and analyse Facebook “Likes” by providing insights into brand loyalty, brand love and WOM for “Liked” brands. Originality/value The paper addresses the dearth of research exploring how consumers’ perceptions of their Facebook network influence their online brand behaviour and how perceived self-congruence with a “Liked” brand relates to brand outcomes.

The purpose of this paper is to determine the effect of the antecedents of e-news brand trust and want to determine the consequences of e-news brand trust. The model used in this study were tested into two news brands online, which is Detik.com and Kompas.com. Sample of this study composed of 418 respondents, of which 239 respondents are Kompas.com readers and readers of Detik.com comprised of 179 respondents. The analysis used in this study is the Structural Equation Model. Results of this study indicate that both Detik.com and Kompas.com have the same result for the research model used. The result of this research are e-news brand attributes have positive and significant impact on e-news brand experience, e-news brand attributes have a positive and significant impact on e-news brand loyalty, e-news brand experience has negative effect but not significant at the customer confusion, customer confusion, has a negative but not significant effect on e-news trust brand, e -news brand experience has the effect of e-news brand trust and a significant positive effect on brand loyalty e-news.

Purpose Exerting a peculiar fascination on both managers and academics, Millennials can be distinguished from other cohorts by their intense exposure to the internet and heavy use of social media, which, in turn, affect their identity formation, brand engagement, loyalty and purchase behaviour. Yet, uncertainties regarding online engagement and the real benefits brands can reap from Millennials’ avid use of social media remain. Therefore, by developing a holistic model of drivers and outcomes, this study aims to understand how Millennials engage with their most loved, self-expressive brands across social media platforms and its impact on loyalty-related intentions. Design/methodology/approach Data was gathered using a self-administered survey, answered by 343 millennial generation social media users and based on self-selected self-expressive, loved brands. Considering brand loyalty as a key outcome, a holistic model was developed and tested using partial least squares-structural equation modelling, emphasizing not only the role of social media engagement but also including brand love, experience and identification as direct and indirect antecedents. Findings Findings suggest a disconnection between online and offline brand relationships: though Millennials love and are very loyal to their favourite brands, they are not actively engaged in social media, which helps to explain the non-significant effect of engagement on brand loyalty. Moreover, together with brand identification, brand experience was found to play a major role in developing brand love, which, in turn, is positively related to engagement and loyalty. Originality/value Theoretically, this study contributes to bridging a gap in the literature, as research on engagement, its drivers and outcomes is scant and there is no robust evidence about its impact on brand loyalty, particularly among Millennials. Moreover, research on disengaged consumers who exhibit limited willingness to engage is still scant. Managerially, this study provides insights for brand managers wishing to successfully engage and build relationships with Millennials and to identify key routes to Millennials’ loyalty.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the joint effect of two composite characteristics –openness to experience (OE) and nostalgia proneness (NP) – on product involvement (PI) and whether brand loyalty (BL) is a result of this PI. Design/methodology/approach In accordance with this purpose, a model suggesting that OE dimension of the five-factor model and NP influences PI and PI influences BL was developed and tested. The data used in the study were obtained from 1,392 participants from the Thrace region of Turkey. The authors use a structural equation model to test and confirm hypothesis. Findings OE influences PI and hence BL. On the other hand, it has been concluded that NP has no significant influence on PI. Research limitations/implications This is the first study to examine the influence of OE, one of the personality traits, and NP on BL. In this study, only OE, which is one of the five-factor personality traits, has been examined. Studies in the future may research the relationship between other personality traits and NP, PI and BL. Practical implications This paper provides managerial insights into why consumers’ personality traits and NP need to be taken into consideration in creating BL. Originality/value To the best of authors’ knowledge, the influence of OE and NP on BL has not been addressed in the current literature. Personality traits and NP are closely related to individuals’ behaviors as a consumer. Understanding the factors that influence consumer purchase decision processes is of crucial importance to managers and researchers alike. The paper is of great value for firms that consider enhance BL.

Purpose This study aims to check which scale of love brand developed by Carroll and Ahuvia (2006) or Mohammadian and Karimpour (2014) have better adhesion to the perception of Aspirin love brand, that is, a functional brand. Design/methodology/approach The conceptual models and associated hypotheses are tested with a sample of 321 consumers. Data were analyzed through a structural equation model. Findings The results demonstrate strong relationships between the three antecedents (brand engagement, confidence and overall attitude) and brand love and between brand love and its consequences (brand loyalty, positive word of mouth and brand purchase intention) in both scales. Research limitations/implications The main limitation of the study relates to the sample, which is only of Portuguese consumers and does not match the main socio-demographic characteristics of the population. Therefore, the study should be seen as exploratory on the brand love in the case of functional brands. Practical implications The knowledge that a consumer can establish an emotional relationship with a functional brand, in a highly competitive sector as the pharmaceutical sector, in particular in drugs that are sold without a prescription, can help managers in defining their communication strategy appealing to the emotions and long-term involvement with the consumed. Originality/value Few studies about the background of the brand love and those that exist are linked to hedonic product categories and self-expressive brands. It is the first time that the brand love for a medicine is evaluated.

The fashion industrial growth is seen from many and many retail shops and modern shopping centers that emerge, especially Surabaya city. Brand has special emotional bond created between consumers and company, so consumer love toward some brand will give positive impacts. This research aims to know influences of brand experience, brand trust, and brand love toward purchase intention by word of mouth and brand loyalty as intervening variables in fashion branded in East Surabaya. The approach used is quantitative method by causal research type. The research samples are fashion branded users of Nike brand in East Surabaya as 190 respondents. The instruments used are questionnaires by using Likert scale. The analysis technique chosen for analyzing data and testing hypothesis in this research The Structural Equation Model (SEM). The research results show that Brand Experience and Brand Trust influence toward Word of Mouth in Fashion Branded in East Surabaya. Brand Experience does not influence significantly but it has positive influence directions toward Purchase Intention in Fashion Branded in East Surabaya. Brand Experience influences toward Brand Loyalty in Fashion Branded in East Surabaya. Brand Trust influences toward Purchase Intention in Fashion Branded in East Surabaya. Brand Trust does not influence significantly but it has positive influences toward Brand Loyalty in Fashion Branded in East Surabaya. Brand Love does not influence significantly but it has positive influence directions toward Word of Mouth in Fashion Branded in East Surabaya. Brand Love does not influence significantly but it has positive influence directions toward Purchase Intention in Fashion Branded in East Surabaya. Brand Love does not influence toward Brand Loyalty. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the antecedents and consequences of romantic brand love in the luxury hotel context. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from guests who had stayed at a luxury hotel within the past year and analyzed using structural equation modeling. Findings The findings indicate that uniqueness and hedonic values are a prerequisite of evoking closeness and passionate feelings toward hotel brands, resulting in guests’ advocacy and willingness to pay a premium price. Practical implications This study provides practical implications for luxury hotel marketers by introducing a new angle to understand brand love and suggesting desirable post-consumption behaviors through creating romantic love relationships between guests and hotel brands. Originality/value Research on the multidimensional aspects of luxury value is limited. This study proposes a conceptual model to investigate which luxury values enable guests to fall in love with brands and influence future behavior decisions and identifies opportunities for managerial benefits relating to consumers who are not traditional or frequent visitors to hotels.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to disentangle the effect of life equilibrium on organic food purchase intentions through a consideration of the evaluation of intrinsic and extrinsic food quality attributes. Furthermore, the study examines the role of health consciousness in achieving life equilibrium. Design/methodology/approach The conceptual framework was developed based on previous research and tested through a quantitative study with end consumers. The hypothesized relationships were tested using structural equation modelling. Findings The results obtained from this study show that the perceived quality associated with the intrinsic attributes of organic food mediates a positive influence of life equilibrium on consumers’ organic food purchase intentions. The study also confirms that life equilibrium mediates the effects of health consciousness on the evaluation of intrinsic and extrinsic food quality attributes. Research limitations/implications The theoretical contributions of the paper lie in uncovering the complex relationships that exist among health consciousness, life equilibrium, perceived organic food quality dimensions and purchase intentions and providing new evidence showing which perceived intrinsic organic food quality dimensions are relevant in shaping consumers’ purchase intentions. Practical implications The research results suggest that organic food managers should focus on developing stronger value propositions that are based more on intrinsic food quality characteristics and less on extrinsic ones. Originality/value This study recognizes the relevance of life equilibrium as a specific consumer lifestyle form, which drives organic food consumption through extrinsic and intrinsic food quality attributes.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify antecedents and consequences of customers’ emotional reactions in the banking industry. In this context, a model based on segmenting all variables into three segments is proposed. Design/methodology/approach – The research was conducted on a sample of 211 respondents. Data analysis was conducted in AMOS 18. In order to assess the overall model fit, confirmative factor analysis (CFA) was used. To test the research hypotheses, a structural equation model was used. Findings – The research results indicate that trust, social bonds, image and service quality are statistically significant drivers of satisfaction. Of these variables, only service quality has no significant impact on affective commitment. Trust stands out as the variable with the greatest impact on customer emotional responses. Satisfaction is also an important determinant of customers’ behavioral intentions. Practical implications – Results of the present study indicate that management should pay considerable attention to strengthening intangible elements that imply the development of long-term relationships with clients. Originality/value – By designing a new model that includes antecedents and consequences of emotional reactions of customers, the present research contributes to theory in the field of services marketing. The model is characterized by its three-tier structure, whereby satisfaction and affective commitment occupy a central position.
